YES BERT IS BACK CHOKE ON THIS ASSHOLES!@#

NHL is about to start and my favorite player is back, what could I ask more? A cup in Montreal? :lol

***can wear his Bertuzzi jersey proudly again***

Nice to see that the Nhl is as full of shit as it ever was. What was the total suspension? 15 games?

Hopefully someone breaks Bertuzzi's neck and ends his career....'cause it's only a 20 game suspension nowadays.

Keep fighting the good fight, Drensch!

Once again, because of his suspension he couldn't play anywhere else during the lock out. Many players could (and did) go play in Europe while Bertuzzi couldn't, period. People bitching about his suspension being too short really need to get the stick out of their asses because he sat out over a year and couldn't play anywhere else.

One year not playing hockey anywhere is still too short. It's no problem though, they'll be in the same rutt they've been where theri fans talk how great this guy is and he will barely get them into the 2nd Round.

Well, if they play the Flames I can see "Big Bert" going pointless the whole series.

There should be some kind of rule where anyone who is a fan of a team in the NW division is not allowed to comment on the Bertuzzi situation. :lol That includes myself. I don't trust my own thoughts on the matter and that's why I don't bother expressing what I think is "fair" and haven't in well over a year.

BTW, I think the Richard Park signing was a great move. I was wondering why it took this guy so long to get signed, he's a great player.

PALFFY! That's freaking awesome. Strangely enough, I was REALLY hoping the Penguins might pick him up since he was the one remaining forward on the market that I totally dig. We had Jagr before, and now we have Jagr Jr. Remember when he came into the league and had Jagr's hair, as well as the big 68 on his back?

Fuck, Malkin needs to get here NOW. We might have enough talent for 3 SOLID lines now!

Lemieux - Crosby - Malone
Kraft - Malkin - Recchi
Palffy - Fata - Sim/Koltzov/Roy/(Morozov? :()

Blue line looks half-decent as well.

Tarnstrom - Jackman
Gonchar - Melichar/Strbak
Orpik - Rozsival

SIGN MALKIN. DOOOO IIIIIT. DYNASTYYYYYYYYYY.

Your lines are a bit off.

Why do you put Palffy on the third line? Don't put him with Rico Fata. Just don't do it.

Both Kraft and Malkin are centers, too, so one of the has to go to the third line.

Recchi needs to be on the first line, too. Put Malone down on two or three.

Brooks Orpik needs to be paired with either Gonchar, Tarnstrom, or Jackman since he is the only pure defenseman we have. Somebody needs to cover while those guys are jumping up into the zone.

Overall, I'd like to see another good defenseman added to the roster. Offensively, I think the Pens are looking good, although I'm still not sold on Malkin playing on the second line.

Just be glad you finally have a decent team, you better buy whatever they are selling :D

Who the hell is Eklund and why does his name come up every three minutes? Has he predicted anything recently that hasn't been blatantly obvious?

This isn't Per-Erik Eklund, the former Flyer, is it? If so, when did he become such a blowhard? If it isn't, why the hell does anyone care? :)

Report: NHL on verge of U.S. cable deal

Comcast has formally submitted a two-year bid in excess of $100 million US to televise NHL games beginning this fall, sources directly involved in the discussions told the Inquirer in Tuesday's edition.

NHL on the Outdoor Life Network? :lol

edit:
Hmmm
Seems like the deal may actually be done.

NHL headed for the Outdoor Life Network
Tuesday, August 09 2005

Comcast and National Hockey League negotiators have worked out a two-year deal for more than $100 million to televise games beginning this fall, according to sources directly involved in the discussions. This report was written by Tim Panaccio and Don Steinberg and appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer

The agreement must be approved by the league's Board of Governors.

The deal calls for Comcast to televise two games a week nationally. The cable giant plans to put the games on its Outdoor Life Network (OLN).

The agreement with Comcast brought to an end 10 days of intense negotiations, some of which were conducted at Comcast's offices in Philadelphia.

Participating in the discussions were NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, deputy commissioner Bill Daly, Comcast president of programming Jeff Shell, Comcast Cable president Steve Burke, and Alan Singer, an attorney for the company.

A spokesman for Comcast, Tim Fitzpatrick, declined to comment on the company's interest in the NHL yesterday.

NHL officials also declined to comment, but the league could announce its new TV deal by this weekend. The deal would contain the following:

Comcast would televise games nationally twice a week. On one of those nights, Comcast would retain exclusivity in U.S. markets as the only game available on TV at that time.

The NHL would retain the right to exit the agreement at the end of the two years. The right is contingent upon Comcast's fulfilling certain responsibilities related to advertising-revenue growth and reaching a specific number of homes.

If the league opts to stay, then Comcast has a one-year option, followed by a three-year option.

An undetermined number of games would be broadcast in high-definition TV.

If the NHL approves the deal - and that is considered a formality at this point - the contract will be forwarded to ESPN. In April, ESPN opted to not renew its $70 million option to televise NHL games for 2005-06 and 2006-07, but the network retains the right to match the new offer, according to a source. ESPN has carried NHL games in the United States since 1985.

The league's previous five-year TV deal with ABC and ESPN was worth $600 million.

There are two directions Comcast could go from here: an overhaul of OLN or an initial change to accommodate hockey, with a future, stand-alone network that would carry NHL games. The former is the preferred method among Comcast executives.

It is unclear whether Comcast's SportsNet channels around the country would play a role. Flyers games on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia will have their own separate schedule.

OLN is available in about 61 million households, compared with more than 70 million for ESPN2 and 80 million for ESPN, but the new programming should help OLN expand its reach.

A repositioning of its focus shouldn't be difficult. Just as Kentucky Fried Chicken officially became KFC, OLN has been identifying itself by its initials so that customers won't limit their thinking about its programming.

NHL games are not played outdoors, but "initials can stand for anything," said Lee Berke, president of LHB Sports, who consults with professional teams on TV deals.

Berke pointed out that OLN has picked up several sporting events that used to be on ESPN, including the America's Cup yacht race and the Boston Marathon. OLN maintains a long-term agreement to carry the Tour de France bicycle race. Comcast gave ESPN's X Games a boost by hosting them at the First Union complex in Philadelphia in 2001 and 2002, but in 2004 OLN bought the Gravity Games, a rival action-sports competition, and has been expanding that franchise.

"They've settled on sports as a major source of content," Berke said of Comcast. "There's still speculation that they could go for the late-season NFL package [Thursday and Saturday nights beginning in 2006]."

The NHL, meanwhile, needs to resurrect its own image after a lockout wiped out last season.

"You have the world's largest cable company - that's a big plus," Berke said. Comcast, he said, will be able to pair NHL telecasts with its HDTV capabilities and Video on Demand.

The NHL will have some other TV exposure. In a two-year deal with NBC that starts this season, the network will televise seven regular-season games, six playoff games, and Games 3 through 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. In that deal, the NHL is guaranteed no rights money; NBC and the league will share some advertising profits.

When the NBC deal was announced in 2004, before the missed season, Bettman said: "If anybody thinks that we're going to get zero [from NBC], I don't anticipate that, and I would be very, very surprised."

In Canada, the NHL has TV deals with CBC and the Sports Network. This report was written by Tim Panaccio and Don Steinberg and appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer

You cheer for Edmonton, right? STFU and make the playoffs first. Better yet, make the playoffs and don't immediately bend over for Dallas. :D

:lol That's hilarious - but honestly, the NHL isn't in a position to be making demands from any networks right now. Get back on TV, get a regular night where we won't be preempted for autoracing or dog shows or whatever the hell they show on ESPN2, and start the slow climb back up into redemption.

-We now interrupt this Stanley Kubrick final game to show you a breaking news from the National Dogs Show Xtrem.

-Thanks, incredible news here. This year favorite dog took a dump on the floor and it now threatened to be disqualified. We repeat, he took a dump on the floor! Stay tuned for the next hour while we wait for the judges' decision. We remind you that the winning dogs will be featured on Nintendogs 2, a great honor

-Oh and FYI, Sydney Cosby just scored on overtime and the Pittsburgh Pirates just won the Stanley Bowl

-Yeah yeah whatever... what about the dogs?

Ok

So Lindros is going to be a Leaf today....

Maybe he's right this time lol

Anson Carter? A Leaf? Ok, I can deal....

Pens just signed Burke for 2 years, 1.5 per year. It said he is looking to get 55 starts this year. Supposidely he is really good with younger players, so I hope he can help Marc-Andre Fleury out a bunch and teach him some things.

To me, it would be nice if he got 50 games, and MAF got 32.... I kinda hope that MAF gets some of his bonus money this year, it was sad to see him get stiffed the last season, because the Pens couldn't afford to pay his contract bonuses(they shuttled him down to Wilkes-Berry before he played his 20th game)

I think all they need to do now is get Malkin into training camp, and things are going to look good in the Burgh.

Oh yeah, Morozov was quoted in some Russian newspaper that he is going to stay in Russia. Anyone want him or Caron?

The Pens continue their great offseason. Going back to last year, they've added Recchi, Crosby, Gonchar, Palffy, and now Burke, not to mention Lemieux's healthy again. Hopefully, Malkin comes over, but it's looking more and more doubtful.

I'm excited that the Penguins are back in a position to contend, but they're still going down a familiar path: all offense and no defense. At least Burke is a better goalie than the ones they've had in recent years. Burke probably isn't a guy who will win you the Cup, but he certainly is leagues above the Aubins and Carons and Snows.

I like the way the offense is stacking up. Add the aforementioned guys to the few quality players they had before - Malone, Kraft, Koltsov, and Fata - plus another center on the way (Malkin or Stumpel seem the most likely at this point), and the offense will be fine.

Something needs to be done with the defense, though. Gonchar was a great signing, but he's pretty average defensively. The rest of the blueline is either bad defensively or just inexperienced. Orpik has potential and needs to show a lot of improvement for this team to go anywhere. Ryan Whitney's another top prospect who's looking like he'll make the team, but he's going to have growing pains. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot left on the free agent market when it comes to defensive defensemen. The Pens especially need size and toughness on the blueline, something only Orpik will really bring. I'd love to see them trade for Brendan Witt of the Capitals, who just asked for a trade. He's exactly the kind of defender the Pens need. If they can get him or someone similar, they're going to be in good shape for this season.

Of course, their future is as bright as any team's. Crosby and Malkin on offense, Orpik and Whitney on the blueline, Fleury in goal... few teams, if any, can match that kind of young core. It's going to be an awful shame if the team isn't in Pittsburgh to see these future stars blossom.

If Witt went to the Penguins, he'd be exactly the anchor that defensive corps would need. That said, Washington and Pittsburgh have so much bad blood between their franchises, there's no freaking way the Caps would send him over. :)

The pens can dangle Surovy and Caron at Washington to get Witt here. It would be no loss to the Pens deep core of prospects at all..

Hell, we can even trade them Beech, Sivek and Lupaschuk back for Witt - All three of them are really looking like busts (Beech may have a chance to turn it around). We got all of them for Jagr years ago, a trade that is paying it's dividends now for the Pens by forcing them to play cheaply but painfully through the years and assemble an awesome team this season, full of talented veterans and awesome rookies.

Jagr didn't do a damn thing for Washington.

I'm sure Craig Patrick will get crafty. His last concern is Malkin I would presume. They can let some kids make it from training camp to fill the last few spots and be in good shape still.

It is fun to be a fan of a team that is essentially allowing their fans to make 'Sega' trades because of the position they are in...

He used to live on my street (like 6 houses down) and play road hockey with my older brother. :)

lkasfjlask. C'mon Cujo, DO IT.

My personal shopping list of what the Pens still need to be a legit cup contender:

big D man
solid centre
another scoring winger ;) (maybe...)
veteran playoff goalie

Been a few years since I've last played. Not a Toronto resident however, as I live in Buffalo. I make trips to Toronto every once and a while though.

Man, there's been so much I've wanted to post- from dem acting like the Oilers are going to win the cup by acquiring a solid defensemen and solid defensive forward (the 2005+ Oilers dynasty will apparently consist of incredibly solid defensive play, a fast break up the middle, a dump in, followed by a line change, because Ryan Smyth is the only player left on the team who remembers where the puck is supposed to go), to Bertuzzi and Naslund coming back to the Canucks, to the retardo Toronto trio speculating on every single shit rumor Eklund posts (hey Dopey, how's that Naslund - Sundin - Forsberg line looking now?), from Drensch's team losing Forsberg and Foote and replacing them with Turgeon and Brisebois- Drensch, I made this avatar for an Avs fan on another forum, but I'll let you use it on GAF;

Avs suck, Flames suck, Oilers suck, Wings suck, Leafs suck. Go Canucks Go.

Torturing? What makes you say that?

People bitching about his suspension being too short really need to get the stick out of their asses because he sat out over a year and couldn't play anywhere else.

Neither could Steve Moore. And half the league chose not to play any hockey in Europe or elsewhere, so Bert wasn't at a disadvantage to those guys. It isn't like he's been getting the league minimum the last few years.

The sin was commited in the NHL, and that's the league he's being punished in. That it affected his hockey playing elsewhere is merely a byproduct.

Having said that, I can't say I'm too upset...the way the suspension was done was typical, no guts at all.

"HEY, WE'RE GONNA TAKE HIM OUT FOR THE REST OF THIS SEASON, THEN THINK ABOUT IT OVER THE SUMMER (OH WAIT WE'RE GONNA HAVE A LOCKOUT AND FUCK EVERYONE OUT OF A YEAR...OKAY, WE'LL DECIDE ONCE WE CLEAR THAT SHIT UP A YEAR FROM NOW), THEN THINK ABOUT HOW MANY GAMES WE MAY OR MAY NOT ADD!! BRILLIANT!!"

It was stupid as fuck then, and it's stupid as fuck now. Either grow some fucking balls and give him the 30 to 40 games (plus the playoffs) that he deserved to miss right off the top, or say it was till the end of the year and however long the playoffs were, and leave it at that. Waiting to see how Steve Moore is doing in order to determine things is pretty stupid as well...even if he is fit to play, who the hell says he'll even be signed by anyone with his health status? If Moore's status was really that important to determine Bert's future, the league should've at least waited until Moore had signed a contract with someone.

And what's the precedent for punishment for such an attack now? If another player decides to do this (and I'm sure something similiar will occur down the road), does the guy get 13 games, 20 games, the rest of the season and the playoffs (whether the incident occurred game 1 or 81), or does he get the rest of the season plus the entire season the following year? If a player gets 30 games or more for the same offense, he'll have a legitimate legal complaint that the punishment is way too harsh, measured up against Bertuzzi's eventual punishment. The lack of simple foresight has been a problem with the NHL for years.

But again, the way the suspension was done was completely stupid...so in that sense I'm sorta glad it's over with. The first Avs/Canucks meeting is going to be priceless though, particularly if Moore resigns there. If a big brawl breaks out, who's Brad May gonna go after? :lol

Beats the fuck outta me. The fucking Onion's a more legit news source then this twat has been. The handful of predictions he's made that actually came to fruition could've been predicted by anyone with an ounce of brains. Hell, I guessed Scotty would sign with the Ducks and that Khabibulin would get snatched up by the Hawks, but that doesn't make me fucking Nostradamus.

Personally I think people who post ANYTHING from this Eklund dipshit should get banned for the duration of the season. Plus the playoffs.

And typically an actual signing gets ignored in a sea of bullshit rumours...the Leafs signed D man Alexander Khavanov (formely of the Blues) to a one year deal at 1.25. That's according to Sportsnet anyway...in six hours they might change his signed team to the Predators.

I've lurked around these forums for a LONG time, i've read most of the hockey threads. You 'Nucks fans have been going on for alot of years with you're posts about how Nazzy and Bert will tear apart the league. I think it's more appropiate that people tell you guys to "STFU, you guys lewze in teh first round!". The 'Nucks haven't made a dent in the Western Conference since the year they gave up the 3-1 lead to the Wild. That's it. You can ridicule the Oilers all you want for making the playoffs 5 of the last 7 years.

But it's all in good fun, the 3 Canadian Western teams despise each other. And now with Mike Works back it will even be funner. :D
