It'll especially suck when Tellqvist has to start 30+ games this season because of Belfour's bad back. :(

Don't scare me like that! I still don't know why the Leafs haven't picked up a decent backup.

I heard that the Leafs are now interested in some guy that's been in a coma for three years. Hopefully he wakes up soon so that they can address their defence.

For Canuck fans:

Sami Salo signs two year deal with Canucks at $1.5 million per

Around $250 000 raise on his qualifier (off the top of my head, since I don't have my list of salaries at work), but still $150 000 less than he was making last year. Not a bad deal considering it includes a year after he'd otherwise be a UFA.
For Flames fans:

Steve Reinprecht signs with the Flames for $1.44 million

Not sure if it's just one year or multi-year, but if he can stay healthy (and his shoulder is supposed to be fully recuperated), he's going to be very dangerous this year.
For Fifty:

(DUH- I'M BRETT LINDROS)

The problem with Lindros is that he doesn't know how to skate up the centre of the ice while carrying the puck without looking at it. :(

They don't have the $ under the cap.

EDIT:
Code:
Mats Sundin $6.84 million
Ed Belfour $4.56 million
Bryan McCabe $3.458 million
Tomas Kaberle $2.28 million
Ken Klee $1.9 million
Darcy Tucker $1.596 million
Eric Lindros $1.55 million
Jason Allison $1.5 million
Jeff O'Neill $1.5 million
Alexander Khavanov $1.25 million
Tie Domi $1.25 million
Aki Berg $1.064 million
Matt Stajan $805,600
Chad Kilger $475,000
Mikael Tellqvist $450,000
Alex Ponikarvsky $450,000
Wade Belak Undisclosed
17 Players $30,928,600
Don't forget that they have to leave room for the $3 million in bonuses Allison might make and so the Leafs only has $5 million (minus whatever Belak will make) left under the cap for 3 more players (plus 3 scratched players).

That's their damned problem. You can put all the talent you want on the ice, but it's for nothing if there is not a decent goalie tending the pipes.

If allison nails those bonuses they will be payable on next years cap, not this years (it's the injury bonuses people are talking about)

Lindros says this :''(The contract) is only for a year but I'm looking forward to being here for many years to come,'' he said."

He's been skating for four weeks, practising yoga with Leafs enforcer Tie Domi, and he tips the scales at slightly more than 250 pounds.

Sounds like I'm not the only one anticipating indefinite hospitalization. :lol

Sounds like a broken record in Toronto when they sign a player to a "retirement" contract in the twilight of his career. :lol

Sad but true my friend. Fix the D already and forget about the retread reclamation forward projects. Remember my Domi "jersey" theory? Well multiply that by 10 now with Lindros' arrival and you can see how the Leafs make the cash. You need clueless fans and Toronto has them in the thousands.

Being a Pens fan in New Mexico makes Center Ice a god send. I would still consider getting it, even if it was double in price.

I got to see about 79 of the 82 pens games last year. One Chicago feed hosed us, so did a Nashville on, and I couldn't get the Phoenix one because it was blacked out in my area.
I was pissed on the Phoenix one, as that was the game they broke out of a 21 game winless streak (I think Jackman came to the team by trade that game)

Admirable, considering their season (did awesome near the end though!).

*LOL* Co-worker said the exact same thing this morning.

He'll be awesome for the Leafs. He's gonna get a lot of attention there, and a lot of fanfare. That isn't a bad thing as long as it remains positive.

Really? They (as in TSN, SportsNet, etc) always made it seem like bonuses counted toward the cap of the year they happened in. Thanks for the correction.

I love this:

hockeyavatarblack2ro.gif

Can't get enough of that gif. The NHL should base it's new marketing campaign on that. Just show that looping as a 30 second commercial. Don't even mention the NHL. "Hockey" is sufficient.

it might very well be the best avatar i've ever made. i've never had an avatar on SA's forums, and since I was banned here for an indefinite amount of time, i decided to finally make one based on the huge hockey thread that was eating up all of my time.

Are you now going to tell me to show the 6 years prior to that?

The Internet

With a record that medicore, Canuck fans still manage to be the second most obnoxious fans in the league behind Leaf fans. Christ only knows how sickening they'll become if the Nucks actually win TWO rounds in the same spring.

Christ...a Leafs/Nucks final would probably drive me to drink.

I think the Lindros pickup is a nice stop gap for this season...he's relatively cheap, and if he can stay healthy he can still be very effective. It still doesn't change the fact that the Leafs will be life and death to make the playoffs, but this isn't the worst move they've ever made.

And Thornton re-upping with the same franchise that hung his ass out to dry is just more PROOF that money still rules all in the "new" NHL.

they need a player by player cap of 10% of team cap. And the minimum salary as 1% of the team cap.

but noooooooooooo they have to have a fixed low and ridiculously high... high level salary min/max on a cost certainty system. Yes. There's players out there that are certainly paid more than they are deserved.

Don't let bish and Mike's sense of humour skew your sample of, what, four people? And really, I understand your bitterness, but... I think Boston has something to say about that. Not that either compares to Toronto, in a league of its own.

Calling Canucks fans the second most obnoxious fans in the league behind Leaf fans is like saying Andre Racicot was the second best goalie for the Canadiens in the mid 90's behind Roy.

Miikka Kiprusoff signed, 10M for 3 years.

I know its Eklund.. but this would make me a very happy man.
"Boris Mironov back to Edmonton is the rumor."

Bobo AND Igor? This may be the greatest team ever. :)

I thought the bonus structure with Allison wouldn't count under the Leafs cap? It's a special situation given the number of games Allison has missed over the last several years. The only money that counts against the Leafs cap is his base salary. Even if he makes ALL his bonus money, it won't go against the $39 million, so they don't have to leave $3 million aside as you mentioned above.

Bonus money ALWAYS counts against the cap (even signing bonuses), the only confusion was regarding which year it would count against.

"Because of Allison's injury history, and a clause in the new collective bargaining agreement, up to $2.9 million of his incentives won't count against the Leafs' salary cap."

I stand corrected on Allison but I guess that's because of him missing more than one whole season due to injury.

That's what I thought from my original post. That's the reason this deal was a no brainer for the Leafs. If he does well, he gets his money and it doesn't count against the cap. If he doesn't do well, it's only 1.5 million and contract over at the end of the year.
