Bwahaha so it WAS a fat-ass fitness check failure for Tkachuk huh.
TSN has learned that Tkachuk showed up overweight and the team felt it had no choice but to suspend him.

"Players have to come to camp in shape," Blue coach Mike Kitchen told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Friday. "He's been terrific following the program previously. The work stoppage has been hard on a lot of people. We had a lot of frustrated players. ... They had so many dates they had to peak, and they weren't able to hold their level of fitness."
I'm sure the fact he's making 7mil (haha) this year is a factor. Justifiably so IMO, if you're making such huge money based on an old contract you have to know the team will fail you instantly if you're even questionable on they physical, but of course you'd think that anyone making a salary that big would be gung-ho about their job and it wouldn't ever be an issue. Fucking Tkachuk, so typical of that selfish dumbass. :D

Centers:

Not bad :)

Good draft this morning.... I got the first week against my arch-nemesis who was taking all my other Penguin picks.... Who is going to score more points? Lemieux, Crosby and Leclair, or Pallfy, Malone, Jackman, Tarnstrom, and Gonchar....

Thats actually an even match.... LOL

I think I did nicely as well:

Centers:
Spezza
Ruutu
Comrie
Stall

Left Wings:
Naslund

Hartnell

Right Wings:
Havlat
Satan
Knuble

Defense:

Zhitnik
Skoula

Goalies:
Kiprusoff
Lehtonen
Boucher

My team is fucking stacked with young guns. :)

Will start working on the website for our FHL league. I have some time this afternoon and tomorrow. White Stripes show tonight, though.

Anyone good for making up logos and stuff? That's the only thing I'd need help with.

Think I did alright. (last name in each category will be on the bench)

Centre:
Keith Primeau
Scott Gomez
Craig Conroy

Left Wing:
Frederik Modin
Ryan Malone
Luc Robitaille (thinking of putting him on instead of Malone since he should be awesome with JR)

Right Wing:
Ziggy Palffy (top 5 in league scoring, GO!)
Brian Gionta
Victor Kozlov

Defense:
Sergei Gonchar
Dick Tarnstrom
Ric Jackman
Sandis Ozolinsh
Chris Phillips (bench)
M. Malik (bench)

Goal:
Evgeni Nabokov
Jocelyn Thibault
Curtis Joseph

Damn, I was wondering if that was you Alucard or not.... Every time I saw your turn come up, I was thinking -Shit, there goes another Pen. I'm surprised you didn't grab John Leclair. I was really thinking you were going to steal Crosby from me.

Well for Grins, here is the team that the 1st pick in the draft will get you.

Mario Lemieux - C
Sidney Crosby - C
John Leclair - LW
Kyle Calder - LW
Alex Kovalev - RW
P. Sykora - RW

Brian McCabe - D
Sergei Zubov - D
Brian Rafalski - D
Patrice Brisebois - D

Nikolai Khabibulin - G
Sean Burke - G

Bench
Janne Niinimaa - D
Alexei Yashin - C
Marius Czerkawski - RW
Jeff Friesen - LW
Teppo Numminen - D
Mike Dunham - G

I feel pretty strong all over....

:lol Tkachuk is a cockgobbler...always has been, always will be.

BTW, how is that people a year ago went out of their way to correct anyone who said hockey was gone (HOCKEY'S NOT GONE!! JUNIOR AND MINOR HOCKEY'S STILL BEING PLAYED!! IT'S JUST THE NHL THAT'S GONE, AND WHO NEEDS IT ANYWAY!! RAWR!!), yet almost everyone I hear now says "HOCKEY IS BACK!!" when it relates to the NHL? Silly fools.

Sure hope this CBC labour dispute is resolved before the start of the season...but I'm not about to hold my breath.

In the H2H draft today I didn't show up until the 8th round, and guess what? I auto drafted Tkatchuk again! Time to buy me a Tkachuk jersey! Man I hate spelling "Tkachuk"

NO OIL: Former MVP Peter Forsberg nearly ended up in Edmonton. His agent, Don Baizley, told the Edmonton Journal that the Oilers made a serious pitch before Forsberg chose the Flyers. Oilers GM Kevin Lowe was convinced he was coming.

This makes me cry

Lindros says players are gunning for him. I'm :lol at him inferring that the Stevens hit was not clean...whatever..

Those bygone fights probably had little impact on subsequent head problems and Lindros is confident he can continue to take care of himself in all on-ice situations. But he's just as certain that opponents have targeted him — deliberately — because of his cranial tenderness.

"Oh, for sure, for sure, for sure."

Players deliberately trying to end his career?

"Absolutely. Listen, you get into the playoffs, you'll do whatever it takes to win. Even before the playoffs. You know somebody's hurt or vulnerable? If they're on the ice, they're fair game. That's just the way it goes."

But he still doesn't think the Stevens hit that cost him a full season — "I got rocked" — was a clean bodycheck. Ditto for some of the other collisions. "There have been a few things along the way that I'm not happy with, how they happened, how they turned out. I look back on some of the hits and I'm disappointed in the league. But that's all water under the bridge."

I missed it. Center Ice doesn't cover pre-season.

I was having some pitchers of beer at Fox and Fiddle. They had the radio feed with Bowen and Neale. I got there during the second period and it sounded like the Sens were dominating that period. Did they have that shoot-out at the end just for the fans?

They have one at the end of every preseason, and I don't think it's just for the fans in that the players get to practice it and get used to the rules.

Cool. My buddy and I said "WTF?! Did the Leafs tie it up and we missed it?" until I realized it was just slapped on at the end of the game. I think Sundin and Lindros scored in that shoot-out. Yes...the Leafs won that!!! :D

Habs win 3-2, and the fact that theodore, kovalev and koivu didn't play has me optimistic that they will play for the leaf game on thursday that im going to.

They can only sit out for a couple of games until they want to work out the rust so im confident i'll get to see them on thursday.

And I saw the Leaf/Sens shootout, it was pretty good, it just lacked the tension of it actually being important, something that a shootout in the season will have no problems obtaining.

oh and... penalties being called were good until about the 3rd period, then the refs were getting sleepy or something. There was some things that weren't called. The game had a little better flow, and the Leafs weren't taking advantage of 2 line passes when the sens were.

on the leafs: belak is still a twit. Lindros pulled a stellar move on a senator in the first period and basically faded to nothing for the rest of the game. Tellqvist and Aubin suck [weak goals!] and the Leafs D were nowhere to be found. They looked absolutely LOST out there. 2 penalties for too many men on the ice? 2 penalties for delay of game shooting out of play in defensive zone? Mind you they didn't have belfour, khavanov, kaberle and allison out there but they looked confused most of the time :P

Other than that it's good to have hockey back ;)

I heard it was sold out, how was the crowd?

loud! During the ticket zone crowd loudness thing the greens, purples and blues were damaging my ears. Basically the only seats which had empty seats were obviously the golds, like always :P I tried my luck and went down there and got 2 gold tickets from a scalper for $80 each. pretty good considering the ticket price is $190 O.o

That's what pre-season is for. You get up to game speed, make stupid mistakes etc etc. There's little to no intensity that you'll get in regular season/playoffs.

Good god I owned that other draft I did:

Centers:
Joe Sakic
Brad Richards
Marc Savard

Left Wings:
Simon Gagné
Mike Ribeiro
Eric Daze

Right Wings:
Michael Ryder
Miroslav Satan
Alexander Daigle

Ds:
W. Redden
B. Stuart
E. Jovanovski
L. Visnovky
A. Markov

Only my goalies are lacking:
Dipietro
Graham

Waiving Daigle for Lehtonen
Jovanovski for Brisebois
Visnovsky for Morris

Btw I guess I'll drop the FHL league, even I offered to buy the simulator and we're only 6 so far so...

Too bad, you guys are missing on quite something.

We could own two teams? Perhaps there will be more biters if you post a thread in the OT main? I dunno, just trying to come up with sumthin'

hey koopa if it makes any difference I will sign up.

I know you guys are really into this so i'd hate for the whole plan to go down the tube.

Pens lose 3-2 to the Blue Jackets after a shootout. Hmm, considering the roster they put on the ice last night, I'm not worried. And Ryan Malone scored, which is awesome. I am wondering when they'll put Lemieux, Palffy, Recchi, Leclair, and Thibault on the ice though.

I'm dissapointed in the season so far. I mean, they say it's a NEW NHL and everything, but all I see is the same old thing: the Stars beating the Oilers. :D

yeah, i'm going to a pre-season game this weekend, but honest to god, pre-season means absolutely nothing (aside from seeing if a few rookie potentials show promise in breaking the lineup). the canucks could win every single pre-season game they have and the flames could lose everyone one they have and it would mean nothing. all that matters is if any roster players get injured.

i bought 11 tickets for the predators this year.. first one being friday's preseason match against columbus. it's so nice to have hockey back.

Predators are going to be one team that improves this year too, so long as they keep their work ethic. One of the most underrated goalies in the league, and an improved roster from last year.

Columbus had 18 powerplays last night! Pittsburgh had 10.... Damn, has anyone else seen this kind of crackdown of the rules going on?

Fuck, the whole game was on the powerplay.....

Wait for Wednesdays game, everyone but Leclair is going to be in the lineup pretty much that concerns the big guns...

I hope the crackdown keeps up. History shows that it never happens, but if it did, it would likely only take 10-15 games for the teams around the league to adjust and play a less clutch/grab prone game.
