that'd be a good idea, but i think the nhl is too afraid of upsetting the few mouth-breathing retards that would actually watch the sport less if it was removed

Good golly, this needs to happen yesterday.

I'm sick of guys like Cherry - who I actually respect - making the facile argument that if fighting was banned, the game would be dirtier.

Really, Don? So the fact that there's no fighting in rugby or American football is making those sports more violent?

I know lots of the female crowd who *don't* like hockey, or want their children to play hockey, because of the fighting. Ban it and lets start getting this sport popular outside of Canada again.

Honestly though, and somewhat ashamedly, I agree with Cherry. When comparing football to hockey, at least (as I don't know a lot about rugby), there's more opportunity to hurt someone on game time play for play, minute for minute in hockey. They're constantly travelling at speeds in the double digits and contact is simply unavoidable in some situations. There are opportunists in the game who take advantage of this and try to injure other players. Fighting gives them something to think about if they decide to go all out and really get someone. Mess up a player in a cheap shot and expect to drop the gloves. I guess if the league insitutes a fine for players who legitimately try to harm someone then that works too, but given how expertly the league enforces any of its rules leaves me to question how well that would go over.

yeah. and it's not impossible. other sports do it. plus, as phaneuf demonstrated recently, you can still mess up a player and just refuse to fight. the presence of fighting, btw, is proven to actually make the game otherwise even more likely to be violent. so take out its legitimacy and presence

As long as the league actually enforces it, then it's cool with me. There should be suspensions as well as fines, in my opinion. I just don't see the NHL doing a decent job with that is all.

wallin, grabovski, mitchell or stajan

out of all of those i'd probably prefer mitchell - but either way they AREN'T good at setting up the play - Kadri will be his setup man next year for sure

Kessel will play with Grabby. The speed on that line will be unreal, and Grabby is a great passer as well.

No one talking about the Sabres-Wings game that happened? Dang Leafs stealing all the thunder.
There's not a whole lot to talk about. Wings dominated, Miller saved the Sabres, Jimmy Howard was meh and Datsyuk was his usual amazing self.

I also liked what I saw from the wings prospect Tomas Tatar. In a few years a lot of teams are going to wonder why they didn't take him in the draft. Can't believe he fell so far (#60 something). Guess it was because he's not a big guy, and maybe they were worried his showing in the World Juniors was a fluke?

Actually, I'm pretty sure Burke said somewhere that Kessel and Grabovski aren't likely to be together because of their playing style. Maybe that was Ron Wilson, not certain.

Also, Abdelkader showing yet again why Babcock was a moron for pulling Abdelkader in the Cup Finals last year. The guy belongs on the main roster.

I love the people saying the Leafs wouldn't be able to score goals last season. I love them saying it again this season. The Leafs then get Kessel and said people say they overpaid for him or that he needs Savard.

Do these people think Kessel sat at the side of the crease screaming for a Savard tap-in pass all season?

How many of them have actually seen this guy play?

damn, fighting is definitely going to be banned within the next few seasons. That is scary.

Staged fighting should definitely be banned, it's such a retarded and pointless aspect of the game and nowhere near as big a momentum shifter as some people make it out to be.

Definitely. It's insane that he will likely spend another year in the minors. That kid is ready.
But atleast he'll be at the top of the list of call-ups whenever someone gets injured, like right at the start of the season with Helm out.

I was at the Wings - Sabre's game, let me say I was impressed with Eaves, I still think Howard is a sucky goalie, and I wasn't too impressed with a lot of our AHL guys, Kindl looks great but some of the other's didn't look really good at all. Oh, and Abdelkader looks good also.

Detroit dominated the game completely, Miller was on though and Detroit sucked in the 3rd.

We probably won't see Kindl until next year but he's NHL-ready right now. Howard is awful and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Cloutier as the backup with Detroit making a trade for another backup this season.

They could totally have kept him if they had known how things would turn out with Hudler, Samuelsson and Hossa. Although they would have had to waive Howard, which I wouldn't be surprised if they do midway through the season anyway.

I would be happy if they got rid of Howard. :D

kindl is most definitely not NHL ready...he's regressed and needs (at least) another solid season in the AHL before he sniffs playing time with the wings.

i'm no howard fan, but both goals last night were pretty cleary deflected. he's been streaky, but let's give the kid a chance with some actual NHL playing time first before you write him off.

First goal I don't believe was deflected, he just played the angle badly, gave up too much room short side, the other goal was deflected.

FSD showed an angle where you could see that it was clearly deflected off lidstrom's stick, causing it to go end-over-end

Picked up TJ Oshie and David Backes in my hockey pool. Which one should I put on the reserve and which one should be on my actual roster?

If PIM count in your league, Backes.

Kindl would benefit more by being in GR because of playing time but he could easily handle being the 7th D-man in the rotation. That's what I meant by NHL-ready. I'd rather him be in GR to continue improving until ice time opens up for him on the Wings.

Anybody questioning the Wings development of their players and whether or not they are NHL ready has to be a joke. The reason they have been so good for so long is because they don't allow guys to develop at the NHL level - look at Ericcson. Even though he would have been up 2 years ago for most teams (even being the last pick of the draft) the Wings kept him in GR and finally brought him up at the end of last year and he didn't miss a beat. He is going to be a monster this year.

Exactly--Ken Holland knows what he's doing.

I think the most frustrating thing about Abdelkader isn't that he's going to be getting more ice time in GR this season, it's that Babcock yanked him from the SCF when he was doing so well. It made absolutely zero sense.

Nope they don't, which kind of sucks.

I guess I'll go with Backes just to be safe in terms of injury. They're really quite close.

Honestly I think real non-staged hockey fights really do add to the intensity of the game. I love the odd playoff fight and the effect it has.

These pre staged "i want to get attention" fights suck tho.

16 year old Adam Larsson played in SEL today, he was on the first D-men pairng, logging 19 minutes 1 shot. Probably the best 16 year old kid debut in SEL ever.

just think like he's the 2nd goaltender - he's so slow so its equally surprising to see him in the offensive zone, let alone the neutral zone

Yeah good luck with that. He's right on par with Beauchemin so it's no big deal you passed on Francois

Does anyone know what the actual prices for a green ticket is at the ACC? A guy I know can get a pair for $300 for the Caps at Leafs game.

Here's his e-mail:

Seats are Green - Section 310 - Row 10

The game on Dec 12th is $300 for the pair.

Trying to figure out what the "actual" cost of a green ticket is at the ACC before saying yes or no.

Thanks for any info.

$75-100

i just paid $300 a pair of purples :p (they're like $25 regularly)

you will overpay outside of ticketmaster, big time - usually because the ticketholders have seat licenses and have s hard time selling off the other tickets and still need to compensate for air Canada club fees - so when buying you have to ask yourself if the game is going to be worth it rather than how much more you're wasting vs ticket price

edit: error! just noticed my last year purples were $45

Thanks dopey. I'm tempted to get them...will probably sleep on it.

penguins game on October 10th - ticket sellers tend to put premiums on big games - if you wanted to see like Atlanta you could get them for like $70 - just glancing at what my ticket source has (www.tickethouse.ca) it would cost even more for Washington than Pittsburgh

Looks like I'll be at the Dec 12th game between the Leafs and Caps! :lol

Just checked his e-mail again. He has the Habs game for Thursday, Oct 1st at $500! Also has the Pens game for Jan 9th at $350. Lowest games are Hurricanes, Kings, Coyotes, Panthers, Thrashers, Lightning, Wild and Sabres at $200.

worst period I've ever seen a Red Wings team play. atleast The Finnish Connection scored a nice goal.

for the Rangers sake I hope Gabby can stay healthy. he's a top 5 player in the league when he is.

just for greens those are actually decent - but the premium games are such a ripoff knowing the highest ticket price for a leafs game is $182 for platinums - I'll usually only go to a premium game if a chick is involved (you know, like the "ooh Sidney Crosby is so hot I want to make timbits with him" type) otherwise I just stick to tampa bay,Atlanta or whatever :D
