What the fuck's up with TSN? Leafs let in two goals and they're all, "Is the Leafs' D overhyped?"

Get a life, James Duthie.

Will you complain when the Leafs score two goals and Pierre Maguire rubs one out on air?

Pochacco, is that you on HFBoards trying to get some girl onto Muchmusic?
Whaaa?
Nope.

I have an account on HFboards, but I don't really post much there.
My handle there is not "Pochacco"... which is a stupid name for an adult guy :(

Kadris shootout goal was the best done by anyone on the leafs - it feels good knowing this kid will be tearing it up next year instead of seeing the awfulness of colaiacovo, tlusty, whatever other overrated talent we had

Well, who would you say are the Leafs top 6 forwards? Not including Kessel for now

Hagman
Poni
Bozak
Stalberg
Blake
Grabby

*Kadri deserves to be there though...
**Maybe Kulemin in place of Poni?

leafs really need to have 3 scoring lines - leafs have way too many players maturing from the minors not to - why not 4 scoring lines? :p

Kadri:
He's got the skill, but I'm worried he'll get injured at his current weight if he plays a full season. I'd rather the Leafs not risk that.

If Bozak and Stalberg make the team, they'll probably start off on the third/pseudo-2nd line.

It'll probably be a lot like last year, where e had three lines competing to be top line on any given night.

Something like:

Poni-Grabs-Kulemin
Stempniak-Stajan-Blake
Hagman-Bozak-Stalberg
A fourth line of guys like Orr,Primeau, Mayers, Rosehill, or maybe Wallin.

Hanson might be in there somewhere too. Tlusty probably goes back to the AHL.

I forgot about Stajan...we have crazy depth man!

if i were ron wilson i'd do:

Hagman - kadri - kessel (blake for start)
stalberg - bozak - blake (mitchell for start)
ponikarovsky - stajan - grabovski
orr - primeau - hanson *checking line
stempniak - mitchell - kulemin *priority reserves line

backups: jamal mayers, andre deveaux, ben ondrus, rosehill?

this way you have scoring strength and balanced attack across all 3 forward lines - everyone properly compliments each other... the only thing that might be lacking would be the 3rd line with the weakness of stajan and grabovski.

Weird. There's a guy there with the same Avatar as you trying to get some girl voted in as the next Muchmusic VJ. I thought it seemed kinda strange for a member of HockeyGAF. You're the Oilers fan who lives in Vacouver, right?

Click.

allow me to be the first to say that the amount of leafs fan activity in this thread, and it being just the preseason, is quite disheartening. and where's the self-deprecation gone?? given way to arrogance. no fucking middle ground with these people

I'm tanking for Kabanov!
Pfft this is nothing, don't you remember when the Leafs were actually good 5-6 years ago, we ruled this thread. Hell that was pre Forza and Manics, it is going to be much worse this time around.

On the lines thing I very much doubt either Kadri or Bozak make the team. Bozak, Stalberg, Hanson and Tlusty seem destined for the Marlies.

Yup. Oilers fan living in Vancouver (though I'm working out of the country at the moment...)
I think I cropped this avatar myself... so perhaps he's a GAFer too (but he's not me).

He'll fill out nicely in a year or two.
I'd hope so. Dude's got no tits.

Heard Wilson ripping Stalberg in the post game conference. He said something to the effect of "all you guys see is the nice goal or pass he made, you don't notice when he's not backchecking..those are things he needs to learn to do"

So Stalberg looks destined for the Marlies off the bat. I can't imagine Tlusty staying since he's been non existent out there compared to Stalberg. Bozak I'm not sure, he could go either way.

Olaf Kolzig retiring

TORONTO (September 23, 2009) – After 14 seasons, veteran goaltender Olaf Kolzig announced his retirement today from the National Hockey League.

Kolzig, 39, a two-time NHL All-Star (1998, 2000) and former Vezina Trophy winner (2000), appeared in a total of 719 NHL games, 711 of those with the Washington Capitals. His 303 career wins rank him 21st all-time among goaltending wins leaders. Olaf also posted a career 2.71 GAA along with a .906 save percentage and 35 shutouts.

“I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to play the game of hockey at the NHL level for many seasons and I am grateful for everything the game has given me,” said Kolzig. “I would like to thank my family, all my teammates and the fans for making my time in the NHL so special.”

wow. looks like balsillie might be changing the game in the court today

says team will not move this year - possibly the whole season - might move during olympics - offering glendale $25 million even if appeals fail

watch out bettman - they're making a big push for this team

BK: Goldfein to judge: We cannot compromise "fundamental issues" unless "court of highest jurisdiction tells us to."

note to NHL : if you're trying to get a ruling on your side, you don't say this

It is the pre-season. It just goes to show how desperate we leafs fans are. We haven't had anything to cheer about in awhile...

eYeah....if the Leafs were 1-4 in preseason instead of 4-1 all the Leaf haters would be bashing the hell out of them. "SEE THEY STILL STINK!" :lol

Preseason or not, winning is always better than losing.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

This is classic. Great move by Balsillie, as he basically eliminates the NHL's main complain--the quick move before the season starts.

Advertise this year as Phoenix's last, have one last decent run, and then off to success in Canada.

I'd be happier if they moved the team to Seattle. The Emerald City should have been chosen over Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Miami, and Nashville. More to the point: Since the Sonics have left, there isn't a Fall/Winter pro-sports franchise to compete with. My guess is that if a move to Kansas City doesn't pan out, one struggling team will be relocated to the Pacific Nor'west.

Even though as a Leafs fan I'm prone to sporadic moments of mindlessness, there is no way I am getting excited about this season. Sure, the team has some young talent, but they're going to be playing in a division in which each other team looks more experienced and more talented. Maybe Buffalo and Montreal will struggle and give us some breathing room, but even so, I don't see the Leafs matching either Boston or Ottawa.

It wouldn't make sense to keep Stalberg, Kadri and even Kulemin up right now. Left in the Marlies for a few months, they'll work on the defensive aspects of their game and develop the necessary body strength to compete in a brutal, 82 game season. Aside from a few call-ups, I don't see them getting much ice-time at the ACC.
