Yeah, take any team in the league and sit their top 3 defenseman and see how well they do. You still only won by 1 goal against a mostly AHL team with our 3rd string goalie.

Lol, the Sabres were also not playing their top 2 defenseman (Rivet and Sekera) and their top two forwards (Vanek and Connolly). The Leafs players who did play looked pretty average. Completely dominated the first two periods until the Sabres just went to a defensive shell in the third.

And, like I said, I really didn't pay much attention to who was playing for the Leafs. More interested in the Sabres prospects playing. But I did notice McDonald looked better than your top two goalies last year. :lol

So you'll be completely shocked when the Leafs finish ahead of the Sabres this year huh? :lol

Heh, yes, I would definitely be surprised if the Leafs finished in front of the Sabres. I'm not saying I think the Leafs are a terrible team when they have all their players starting. I was one fo the first to say I was impressed with their summer. I just don't think they're as good as the Sabres.

I'm disappointed I didn't get to see Gustavsson play. I think your playoff hopes rest with him. If Toskala is your starter at the All-Star break, I'd expect you traded at least one top 5-10 pick to Boston.

You know Connoly will play maybe 40 games this season, the Sabres have to get used to not having him aroud

It always seems like we play well with him at first, he leaves and we get used to it, then he comes back and mucks our chemistry up.

Manics, I don't see the Leafs finishing ahead of the Sabres this season unless we're suck with Lalime in net for an extended period of time. But next season is a different story. Yours is a team on a definite rebound. Unless I miss my mark this is not your season, but a great starting point for the following few.

Ouch!

I think Vesa the Alien will have a career year.

Career best or career worst? It could go either way.

Canucks Sign Coach Vigneault to Contract Extension

Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks have signed head coach Alain Vigneault to a contract extension through the 2012-13 season.

Vigneault has spent the past three seasons behind Vancouver's bench and his current deal was set to expire at the conclusion of the upcoming campaign.

"This is a significant announcement for our hockey club," said Canucks general manager Mike Gillis. "Alain and his staff have done an excellent job leading our team to two division titles in three years. I believe strongly in the partnership between management, coaches and players and we are all committed to building a championship team here in Vancouver."

The Canucks posted a record of 45-27-10 last season, winning the Northwest Division title. Vancouver lost to Chicago (you suck) in the Western Conference semifinals last spring.

In three seasons with the Canucks, Vigneault has a record of 133-86-27 and his .595 winning percentage is the most successful by a coach in team history.
He won the Jack Adams Award as the league's top coach in his first year with the Canucks back in 2006-07.

"This is an exciting day for me and my coaching staff," said Vigneault. "I love working and coaching in this tremendous hockey city and look forward to continuing to build on our previous success."

Vigneault previously served as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens from 1997 through November 2000. He compiled a record of 109-118-35-4 before being replaced 20 games into the 2000-01 campaign.

What do fellow Canucks fans think about this ?

Expected move.

I'm still not a fan of his constant line jugglings, but he's a good coach and a funny guy.

Coach signings don't really mean anything.
It's not like they need to be "locked up" since they actually want to coach. And the contract doesn't mean anything. Brent Sutter dumped the Devils and went to Calgary. Plus, they can be fired still. The only difference is that the team would still have to pay them... but meh.
With that said, good for the 'Nucks. They're going in the right direction.

Pens lost 5-2 to Columbus tonight. Booooo. I'm not worried, but will be if they're doing this in two months.

Dan Cloutier's attempt at an NHL return is over. Detroit released him today and he says he'll probably go to Europe.

I don't trust Emery to be decent at all this year. Why is it always goal tending with this franchise? I'd love for him to prove me wrong and have an absolutely crazy season for the Flyers, but the Coyotes probably have a higher chance of being a profitable franchise by season's end then that.

I feel the same, unfortunately. Maybe Brian Boucher can return to his year 2000 form?

If you can keep him under control (and that includes his partying and any possible drug problem), then he has the potential to be a great goaltender for you guys. He was great for Ottawa in that season they went to the finals, his attitude was one of a veteran that season and it's unfortunate that instead of maturing more he became more immature.

Kinda pointless.
Lidstrom's awesome and probably IS the best, but the rest of those selections are kinda dumb.

The older guys like Sakic and Jagr are long gone and the newer guys like Sid and Ovie have only been playing for a few years. Also, Lecavalier? Really? He wasn't even the best player on his team when they won the cup.

Gaborik and Higgins giving me a hard on. O man Rangers might actually score some goals this year!
I assume you're referring to the 15-20 games Gaborik actually plays healthy, right? ;)

The dude at the G20 protests with the Cup is awesome. :lol

Good news, the Blues pp looked amazing last night.

Bad news, it's about 6 months late.

Could've used that in the playoffs, fuckers.

Game of the Decade: Game 4, 2000 Eastern Conference Semifinals, Philadelphia 2 at Pittsburgh 1 in 5 OTs

While I most definitely think that game was awesome and I have fond memories of it, I do believe Games 6, 2008 Western Conference Semifinals, San Jose 1 at Dallas 2 in 4 OTs topped it. It still stings, but it was the most epic game I have ever watched.

Yeah. Beaten by the Sedin sisters in the first round. Although game 4 was a conspiracy theorists wet dream. I was there, my first playoff game experience. A clear goal was taken away from the Blues the Canucks tied it up late in the game then beat us in OT.

The Oshie hit(s) on Nash that season was worth it though.

You can't be serious.

Did you even watch overtime? How many penalties were the Canucks given? Count them.

Game 4 was almost RIGGED for the Blues to win.

I was kidding. I'm a Canucks fan and forgot that we didn't get a first-round bye. Too bad about them Blackhawks, though....

yeah, resorting to conspiracies was entirely necessary and worth the risk

No chance.
I wonder why they didn't want to assign him to Abbotsford (AHL). I thought I read that Fleury said he'd like that. And, with a new team in Abbotsford, it would've helped sell some tickets.

Stars made big cuts.. and guess who's still on the team? They are down to 23.. and Jamie Benn is still around!

Looks like he will be playing this year for the Dallas Stars.. He has been sick this preseason.. just like he was during the Juniors. Beastly.
