I had the exact same probelm, i just kept flying over the small body of water penned in by the ice spamming the 'x' button, i eventually touched down after several flyovers.

Ok so ive done the backyard with all 3 star rank, got all the treasure hunts, defeated all secret bosses invisible chest, and royal emblems but i only have 83 seeds and you need 99 if your going for 1000 achievement points. This is gonna be hell i have no idea where this seeds are scattered guess ill be revisiting every spot........... ive come to far not to succeed now!

I'm not sure how far I am into the game--toward the end of disc one, maybe?--but I just got to the Crimson Forest, and I have to say it sorta freaked me out that just before where I am now, the game made me
play as a girl who's gathering flowers to put on her mother's coffin at the funeral, then play as a dude collecting kindling for use as torches in his daughter's funeral. It's funny, video games usually make death seem so trivial--I can't think of too many other games that not only take it so seriously but make coping with it an actual part of the gameplay instead of just being something that's talked about in cutscenes.

Any tips for The Haunted Mansion?
I've only fought one battle and saved. Certainly isn't going to be easy I can tell. Hopefully I'm wrong.:D
Just be very aware of your surroundings. Take note of what and where everything is.

All 99 Seed Locations ...I am at about 68 seeds so far, but when I am about to complete the game I plan to go back and use this guide.

Yeah it is a pain...I am just getting started on story in disk 4, but I want to go around and off the secret bosses before I finish up...the seeds will come last.

It's not that bad. Just make sure to take advantage of the save spot and level up appropriately.

Also, Force is especially handy against the ghost type creatures that roam the mansion. Make sure that at least two people can cast it at will.

Funny, because most in this thread bash on the very thing your praising, I for one thought being a part of it was a good thing.

I think the problem with battle loadtimes is that it's sending a signal to live so your gamercard can say "In Battle" when you are. Disconnecting from live significantly cuts down on it, so that's my best guess.

I'm going to try that. It's just weird that the every disk but disk 1 has the issue.

Whats the best order to attack the tank/cannon thing? I keep getting my ass kicked :(

When I did it, I attacked the main tank unit with everything I got, and I used Mack's shadow power and Cooke I used for the healing and for shields. Not sure if that's the best way, but you'll stop the tank from ramming into you once you get rid of that and I beat it first try doing it that way.

I've noticed quite a few folks stating they are on the 4th disk @ 30 hours. How is that possible? I'm at 50 hours I've only died 3 times and I think I'm Near the end of the 3rd disk.Yeah, I'm doing all the sidequests I can find and thouroughly exploring every area, but still... 30 hours on disk 4? I'd be afraid of missing something running through it that fast.

BTW: Love tese forums. It's nice to see a gaming community forum engaged in intelligent discussion without the fanboy bickering and system wars BS.

Probably by skipping dreams and side quests. I'm pretty slow and I'm at 40 hours on disc three, so I think it's easily possible.

I think you should venture outside this thread.

Yeah, seriously.

I think the same people complaining about the game being too long are the same people who say they are not buying an RPG when it advertised to have anything less than 70 hours of gameplay.

I also agree with the statement that this game is better if you spread it out over a period of time. 1-2 hours a night is is a good pace for me. I am 23 hours in and I am midway through disk 3. However I have been playing with the strategy guide, so I may be spending less times on areas than I normally would.

I'm sure people have said this, but it looks like I fall into the category of those who feel incredibly blessed/spoiled by having played Oblivion/Mass Effect (or any other decent RPG with real-time combat.) Turn-based, random battles are dead to me and Lost Odyssey has confirmed that beyond any kind of redemption. It's competent in most respects, but I still feel it sucks (to me.)

I think to a larger extent the "strategy" of turn-based is so minimal in the context of its gameplay that it doesn't fit anymore. I can't seem to come up with any reasonable/logical benefits for it, and I think the subjective reasoning is almost entirely due to the nostalgia factor of past RPGs. Same goes with random encounters; there is no need for them other than to grind up, but because I tend to play SP games for the story, all they do is get in the way, serving more as a frustration inducer since they impede my progress massively.

The whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The juxtaposition of enjoying the story/characters (Jansen) and the concept, while still hating the game is really awkward. I just don't want to waste my time on it anymore.

I am enjoying LO so far, Im about halfway through disc 2. I have been taking my time though and I am already over 26 hours :lol I have been grinding the Immortals out with almost every skill link ability before finishing that dungeon. Even with the extra grinding, fights are still challenging and can wipe my group out, if Im not paying attention. While turn based combat can feel outdated in some games, it is great in LO imo. The boss encounters are very well done and well designed; if the boss fights were real time, the fights would be very limited in design. I liked Blue Dragon as well.

So I got my game today in the mail, FINALLY. I haven't started playing. I'm more like 5 minutes after the second save point :lol but so far I really am enjoying it. Can't believe when I heard the exaggeration on the load time. It feels like a normal RPG when it does go into a battle [well the ones I play at least]

Enjoy the little hidden items placed randomly. :D. Will play extensively tomorrow though.

Yeah, the load times aren't bad at all!

And the first boss was easy - the second one (

) is killing me though!

Go back to where you first found
Sarah
. Make sure you save before though :)

Woot! just finished the game in 56:39 with 680/1000 gamerscore

The final battles were easy as hell, perhaps because i was overleveled, perhaps because i had everybody absorbing all kinds of magic, and the last 4 bosses healed me most of the time.

In the end, i was missing quite a few spells still. i never got gamble which is a level 1 spirit magic skill :(

I saved a bit before the final battle, so i am gonna go back through and try to 100% it.

Also, i noticed on the savegame for my saved complete game, there is a wierd little logo and it says disk 1, is this the New game+ are there more options or extras or something? what gives?

Just got Sed.

He's the fucking man.

Also, the
Nautilus
is -- in my opinion, right up there with the Delphinus in terms of coolness. Wicked ship, right there.

Got it, thanks. I had thought about it but didnt find the slide.

Btw, I was a bit suprised with the monkey leader fight. It was harder than the T-Rex, maybe because i didnt expect it to cast some kind of spells that wiped some of the party members.

Now, i just got to Gohtza and from what i read, things get pretty hot here. A pity i dont think i´ll be able to play untill weekend.

This strikes a chord, though for an entirely unrelated game. After being burned so harshly by DX2, I was prepared to hate Thief 3, and I spent the entire game waiting for it to suck. Even after being wowed (and horrified) by Shalebridge Cradle, I finished the game still anticipating a punch in the face. It never happened, but the anticipation ruined the experience.

I still haven't picked up LO precisely because of what you're experiencing. Many aspects sound great, but I fear I've moved past the gameplay. The last 'traditional' jrpgs I enjoyed were DQ8 (purely for the relaxation and nostalgia), and Romancing Saga (which... wasn't really traditional)

Just got there too after 27 hours. This game has re-newed my faith that some people can still make rpgs (at least the ones I like! :D ) Curious, what level are you at? I'm at 31 and I'm not sure if I'm *ahead* or at the level I should be at for this point in the game. I know I'm not behind as encounters aren't exactly rolling over me but they are still challenging.

Oh yeah, does anyone know if there is a level cap and what it is? KTHXBYE!

I find that I am disappointed by how this game turned out.

I loved it at first. The idea of the emotional repercussions of being immortal and having to deal with everything that comes along with that was fascinating. The dreams were great, and I was really drawn in and emotionally invested in the characters & storyline. Then, over the course of discs 2, 3, & 4, it just becomes more & more generic until, by disc 4, it's just fighting the evil dude that wants to rule the world. It also suffers from the Gears Of War type storytelling, where I played through it and got this impression of things going on at Mistwalker/Epic:

"Ok, the game has gone gold & shipped."
"Excellent."
"Oh shit, sir, we just realized we forgot to include vital plot points #12, #18, and #32."
"Um...that's fine. We'll let the player fill in the blanks."

Often times I had no idea why I was going where I was going next. I just went along with it because that was the direction the game funneled me in, reminiscent of my thinking "Why the fuck did I just hop on this train?" in Gears. There was alot that was unexplained by the time the credits were rolling. Personally, I don't mind vague storytelling. I love it in a game like Half Life 2, because the whole game is shrouded in mystery. However, in Lost Odyssey, constant exposition was a recurring theme, so when plot points were left out it was even more jarring.

All in all, I still view the game favorably. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone starved for a good JRPG, a genre that is admittedly suffering a drought this generation. However, the potential is there for this game to be amazing, yet it never transcends "just good".

I generally agree with both these points. I felt that as the game progressed, I was less and less interested in what was happening. I also felt disconnected from the world; especially in discs 3 & 4, it felt like I was being moved from one random location to the next.

Towards the end of the game I was just bored of casting the same handful of spells over and over.

So what should I get next after I sell LO on Ebay? COD4 or Burnout? That's the real question!

CoD4 obviously. It was actually kind of funny, I traded in Lost Odyssey towards the purchase of Frontlines: Fuels Of War, and the guy at the register just gave me this look like "Typical Xbot, trading in your JRPG for a gritty military shooter".

I just hit Disc 3 and have been feeling this since the end of Disc 1. There IS a really neat story this game could tell, but instead it falls for the usual trappings and schtick. I'm gonna stick it out, but all the curiosity and drive to see where this game's plot might lead has fizzled out entirely for me. It started out so strong too...:(

Oh and the final dungeon of Disc 2 was basically...

Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!
Jansen has failed to steal!

Eff that place.

Yeah I just finished the game last night and I had pretty much the same feeling regarding the plot becoming less interesting from disc 3-4. It doesn't help that the villain they begin chasing around disc 3 is one of the most generic and shallow villains around. I enjoyed the game quite a bit more during disc 1&2.
