i dont really see the 40 hours thing. im 25 hours in and im at least 1/2 way thru the 3rd disc, and overall id say the bosses are medium difficulty. they might take 2 or 3 restarts in the beginning but towards the middle its a breeze. i try to treasure whore and look around alot too, so most of the bosses are cake and i do my fair share of grinding. shrug.

Is that 40 hours for the main quest, or does include side quests? Also, how much grinding does this game require?

I didn't grind at all until the fourth disc and my play times were 9hrs disc 1, 12hrs disc 2, and 14 hours for disc 3. Disc4 I played for like 30 hours... it kind of got out of hand. But, yeah, I did no sidequests in the first three discs and they still accumulated to well over 30hours.

Whereas Oblivion's and Mass Effects's main questlines were like 12-15hrs (with an additional 40 to 100hrs of sidequests), Lost Odyssey's main quest is, I'd say, 40hrs minimum (with an additional ~30hours? of sidequests.) Now, LO has no real replayability, but still, how many times can you replay ME before you get bored of it.

Pound for entertainment-pound, you're getting a lot of game for $45.

All of that said, I still prefer Mass Effect by far, but that's because its gameplay, combat, and story were much more geared towards my taste.

Does not compute!? So after 2.5 discs you're at 25hours!?... That equals exactly 40hours assuming you maintain your current rate (but the last disc tends to take most people longer as they try and tie up loose ends).

I'm 80 hours in, disc 4, level 80, I've done every sidequest I could do/ have found and still missing 1 dream, next I'll be heading to
Grand Staff
, I supose that's the end.

GREAT GAME. :D

The Lost Odyssey is over. It has come to a pathetic end for me. I was in Numara Atoll and I finally got a lucky critical hit on those annoying silver kelenon things and killed it. Got my victory music / EXP and then it went to a black loading screen and never came out of it.

I turned off my xbox 360 and turned it back on and it goes straight to that black loading screen and gets stuck there. I checked my Lost Odyssey disc and I found 3 large scratches on the disk which I think came from my xbox 360. My xbox 360 has done that to Gears of War, Virtual Tennis, and Mass Effect... although after a few tries I could still play those games.

Am I the only one getting a lot of disk read errors on disk 4? It happened a couple of time on the previous disks, but now it is getting ridiculous.

Well, be surprised. I was moving at the same pace as you are, but my time shot up with disc 4 as there is a TON of stuff to do. So many new places open up, lots of side quests and special dungeons. It's actually a lot of fun. I entered disc 4 at ~30 hour mark, I believe, and now I'm at 41 hours and will continue to work on my characters before entering the point of no return. When I first reached that point of no return, however, I was at ~35 hours and I think it would have taken at least an additional 5+ hours to complete the game from there (as I've read there are at least 3 dungeons, plenty of bosses, and other stuff beyond that point). So, yeah, I was around 25 hours at the the halfway mark of disc 3 and it would have taken 40 hours to finish this game if I had just forged on ahead without doing any of the optional stuff.

I believe the reason I'm enjoying the character leveling in this game is simply because you are rewarded at a constant pace. I've been leveling in the Temple of Enlightenment and every battle won results in a level up with plenty of SP and gold. So, I'm having my immortals learn all of the important skills that I plan to take with me to the final areas and it's moving at a brisk pace. This isn't a game that demands the player to fight countless battles to simply gain one level. The battles at the Temple are generally challenging as well, so it's basically like a series of mini-boss battles with every single battle gaining you a new level. I don't know why I'm enjoying this battle system so much, but it really is a lot of fun.

Sounds like your 360. :(

I haven't had a single crash or problem with any 360 game since Just Cause in 2006. My launch 360 just continues to hum along. Hopefully it continues to do so...

The only "point of no return" is right before the final boss fight. It's MUCH more user friendly than Mass Effect in that regard...

Same, except I'm Lv86 and I've got 70hrs on my clock.

The Backyard was pretty fun. I beat the Immortal on my first attempt :)
My characters are way too overpowered now. It's virtually impossible for me to die. I hope this won't damage the end experience too much :\

Yeah, that was my biggest problem with LO. The end game dungeons and bosses were all pretty pathetic if you have been putting a moderate effort into skill acquisition and ring making.

When you are doing over 6,000 damage per hit a sidequest boss with only 12,000+ hp doesn't stand a chance.

I had a feeling that was the case, but I was simply referring to the entry to Grand Staff when the game informs you that you cannot return from that point. I assumed it meant that I had to complete that dungeon before I could return to the world map, however, and it seems that I was correct in that assumption.

No DRE's here on any discs.

as far as I'm concerned, there is one..."thing left to do" after the massive grand staff dungeon, and THAT, there, is your final chance.

I love this game seriously. I'm on disc 3 now, Momma? Momma! waaa,
Seeing Seth and Sed reunited was so touching and funny at the same time, Toltens reaction is just so brilliant.
Lost Odyssey has now convinced me that it's completely possible to re-make some of the older FF's (mainly 6). With that bringing them into 3d without loosing that classic feeling they have. One of the things I hate about a lot of Rpg's/Jrpg's is the fact that most of the times I just don't see why the heroes would be together as a group or want to save each other. So far it's just done so many things so well it's more than I expected from it. In fact so much so I don't even mind the graphics. I know a lot of people said the story is weak but unless it completely falls apart at the end, I think it's pretty great stuff so far. I wasn't even looking forward to the story either.

Mine finally arrived yesterday, pretty quick as well seeing how it was sent from Hong Kong. So it got it put it in and played for about an hour before I had to go sodding work, and what can I say! It looks and plays better than I expected.

The Graphics are truely amazing, alright to be fair it has its frame droppage but other than that its truely a piece of artwork. UE3 FTW!

The Gameplay I'm really enjoying, the weapon timing was awkward at first but you get use to it, brings back a few classic Final Fantasy gameplaying. My only drawback is that there is loads text to read! Its like a novel in game, I bought it to lead not read. Overall it was well worth my monies. :D

i had a hard time with the ring at first, towards the end of the game it became hard to NOT get perfects though. The system def grows on you.

I'm on disk 4 right now. Where is a good place to start looking for sidequests? I can't seem to find any or know how to start them.

Very minor spoiler....

I found that old ship in the sea, is there a way you can recover it?

Also, how can you 'break the ice' that is on the world map? Do you need a special vehicle?

Im towards the beginning of disc 2... how the hell do I kill those black ghost things in the spooky mansion?

If I remember correctly they are immune to elemental damage. So just use force magic and non elemental attacks to take them down.

I had to put this title down for a while as it usually takes me a very long time to finish RPG's as I try to be as thorough as possible. It's hard for me to play one game for days on end lol, I get tempted by all the other stuff out there atm XD.

Anyway now I'm finally nearing the end of the black cave, which took longer than it should have since I kept hopping back out to get more supplies >_<, was it just me or did the encounter rate skyrocket in there? My angst against seed hunting is still confounding me, (the pipot black cave made no sense to me, and that darn strat guide isn't very helpful unless you play with it EVERY SECOND) I don't feel like looking down into my lap for reference every 5 seconds just for seeds >_>. I'm like 9 seeds too short for that thing, I goofed and left numara too soon or something, bah this is giving me a headache... gr.... seeeeeds!!!!!!

I was playing Lost Odyssey, but then when I got to a save point, it couldn't load (or find) my saves, and kept failing to do so. Finally it kicked me to the main menu, where it still couldn't load my saves. I hope my HDD isn't broken or something, I was 18 hours into the game.

Okay after rebooting, it seems to have found my save. That freaked me out. Has this happened to anyone else? As for location, I'm on disc 2 in
saman, the myst town
.

One time I went to load and it said my save was corrupt, but I just pressed A again and it loaded up right away.

It happened to me back when Xbox Live has lots of issues. If I was disconnected from Xbox Live, the saves wouldn't work.

Oh man... my system just said disconnected from Xbox Live... if I live through these series of
Arthrosaur battles
and cant save...360 is going out the window.

Hi there!

Could someone tell me how the EXP system works? Whenever I finish a fight, there's a single digit number for the EXP gained, say 3, but then I sometimes get 30 point of EXP in my EXP Gauge for my character. What gives?

It's like a scaling experience points system. Lowest exp you can get is equal to the SP count. It then multiplies the lower level you are compared to the enemies. The other thing is you can only level once per battle so even if the experience points may be worth 300, since 1 level is 100 points you will only get 100 points.

In my game Jansen received the skill Double Cast at Level 52 and Level 8 Black Magic at level 49.

Anyone kind of overwhelmed with the amount of skills available in the game? I just got the +5 skill item and I still find it hard finding slots for all the useful abilities in the game. I am currently on the 4th disk and just started doing alot of the side quests. I had a friend who quit on the 4th disk because he said he wasn't able to level or beat anything from that point forward.

When you start learning more stat increasing skills, you'll find it a bit more overwhelming in choosing which skills you want. Kind of shows just how deep in customization the game is.

You can level up on the 4th disc when you go to the
Temple of Enlightenment and fight some Black Kelolons (gain an instant level, too!)
. Great place to level up.

Thanks, what level does it max out there? What level did you guys start back on the main quest after Gongora’?
