For some reason, my initial enamour with LO has dwindled quite a bit. I felt it happend with Disc3, which most on this thread seem to praise....I actually found it the least interesting thus far with Disc1 still being the most.
At this point, I'm hoping the open-ended nature of Disc4 will rekindle some spark with LO, cause at this point, I kinda just wanna finish it =(

Strange, I'm quite the opposite. I didn't like disc 2, but I'm LOVING disc 3.

Disc 2 almost made me shelve the game for a time but I played through it and have been rewarded with how good disc 3 is.

Completed the game last night. Much longer ending sequence then I've seen in a JPRG in a long time. Overall extremely satisfying game. I hope they make more.

Got a PS2? Buy Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 then. That way you've got something else to play from them until they announce their next game.

LO had solid sales number so we should see some sort of sequel.

Do you have a rough estimate of the sales numbers? I'm glad it's selling well, I'm personally waiting until the summer to pick it up when I'll have more time for a full RPG.

100K for Japan and 200K for USA. I don't know the rest of the numbers.

Lost Odyssey's main story quickly devolved into a typical "kill the main villain" JRPG plot, so yes.

Devolved? I don't think it tried to be anything but a standard jrpg in the story department, really.

What is this "Backyard" nonesense?
Why do I have a magazine and some keys for it?

Was doing that today.
Go to Gohtza and go to the abandoned apartment. Use the lift from the outside to get down to the backyard. Its basically a battle arena side quest where you're pitted against a different set of enemys each round and are rewarded more (up to 3 stars) for killing them in different ways. The keys unlock further levels of battles and the magazines give you tips. To find out how to get the best rating for each battle give the magazines you get to a guy down there and he'll tell you. You can get some pretty good stuff from doing it so I'd say crack on with it, its decent fun and more challenging than anything else in the game I've encountered to this point if you want the top ratings (IMO of course and bare in mind I've only just got to disk 4 and this is the 1st side thing I'm doing). Oh, and you don't have to worry about dying :) .

Sweet, thanks man.

Say, no one finds it odd that Kaim always seems to be hanging out with poor children?

It's more than that now...I'm willing to bet that it's arouns 300-350k in the USA now.

Pretty sure I heard that UK sales were around 150k, too. So, decent sales overall.

I'm at the
Tower of Mirrors
, and so I think that it's safe to say that I'm at the very end of the game (still have a few more achievements to get, though).

Am I the only one that's disappointed that this wasn't a dungeon? Because it looks fucking awesome. Shame it's just a fight.

Arghhh you crappy piece of shit console :( . Just spent a fucking hour in Gongoras secret cave only for the thing to disk read error on me as its loading a battle. FUCK YOU.

Just thought I'd come vent... Can't be asked to redo it all now at this late hour, think I'll try out that FM 2008 demo instead...

Thanks. :D

EDIT: Some impressions from disc 2.

Honestly, random battles were of no concern to me for the first disc and a the introductory stages of the second disc. However, the dungeons in disc 2 gradually grew more complex and made excessive traversal necessary to complete them. The problem is, when you have random battles and you're trying to complete a puzzle/maze dungeon, the only feeling that can result is pristine frustration.

The
Haunted-house
dungeon was a clear example in which this was a significant problem for me. Switching dimensions/time-periods to solve the plates-in-the-ground puzzle was far from being comfortable. I did enjoy the challenge the puzzle presented though.

...I guess now that I think about it, actually, the only dungeon that I was frustrated with was the
haunted-house
. The dungeon that followed did not aggravate me nearly as much as that one did.

Depending on how fast you play, I would say no more than 3 hours.

But I'm on disc 4, and the drawbridge is up.
Is it still possible for me to get it?
I hope so, anyone know

Yes.

Well, I just beat it. 980/1000 achievements.

I've got to say that, overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this game, and I don't understand anyone's general dismissal of it. Sure, after disc 1's end, the main story progressively becomes more disappointing, but the 1000-year-dreams, characters, and overall direction with the sequences made it still all very enjoyable and satisfying. The ending
left me wanting a little more. Come on, I want to know what's up with Seth and Gongora in their world. And, I'm a bit confused by Kaim and Sarah AND Ming...they're there for eternity? Isn't the whole game based on how living for 1000 years kind of sucks and it's good to eventually die with good memories+love+family? Oh but since they have that now, they don't mind living an eternity? This was a little ...weird. Definitely has the potential for a sequel.
But other than that, still overall very satisfying. Great battle system (though I wish the ring timing thing could have been expanded). Great dungeons (though random battles seriously are feeling dated). Easy, but not ridiculously easy like BD. Has the best Uematsu score in years, definitely--though too many pieces repeat and too many areas have no music :(. I feel that this game is begging for downloadable content, too.

Overall, Mistwalker has given me two great games, and Lost Odyssey is easily better than Blue Dragon in my eyes. I hope this sells well enough to warrant more games from them. I'd give this a B+/A-.

People, halp. I am fighting Living Ice, the annoying boss of the Frozen Trails. I am getting my ass handed by him. Plus... Jansen is casting Grounda, but Ming doesn't have a single ground attack, my mack is level 18 and Cooke is only good for Covers and All-Shields, nothing else. How the fuck can I take him down!

You never skill linked Ming with Jansen's magic abilities? If you can, go back and do that or equip her with something that allows her to learn and use black magic. That way you have 2 charachters who can do serious damage to him. If I recall correctly, he casts reflect once he's near death, so be careful because your spells wont work on him anymore so you'll have to just attack/use abilities.

About 2:30 in, and hot damn, I'm having fun. Not counting the old Pokemon Gameboy games, LO has been my first venture into JRPG land. So far I'm loving the story and the dream mechanic, and the music is simply incredible. The combat is also pretty interesting. It's a shame it took me this long to play the game.

On a different note, anybody know how long Disc One is?

I tend to forget linking =P. Will try to walk to the trails and enter battles with the annoying monsters then.

Do it. You'll find that your immortals are better at the learned skills than the mortals they learnt them off. Ming is much better at casting magic than Jansen you'll find. Also, link Mack's comb and powerhit with Kaim and Seth, the immortals deal more damage with them. While your at it, get Ming to learn spirit magic from Mack as well, for reasons stated above.

I got back to the game after finishing Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy III.

I´m at the beginning of 4º disc and have only been wandering through the ocean looking for seeds and finding hidden caves.

I´m not sure about going to the Ancient ruins or visit again all available previous locations for missing dreams and possible sidequests.

I put about 4 hours into this game when it first came out and then put it down to deal with other games. Picked it up again yesterday and I'm 13 hours in now and utterly hooked :D

I just got to
the little village after you pick up Ming
. I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of the memories I've picked up so far but I'm missing a few from my list. Can I go back and get them all later or will I have to go through the game again to get them?

With the last character I've picked up I'm finally above the limit of characters I can take into battle it seems. I'm having a hard time picking a character to leave out because I like them all :( I'm thinking I should favour immortals over mortals as they seem to be more powerful and flexible I guess.

:lol :lol I just fell in the abyss in DISC 4 SPOILERS
The Temple of Enlightment. I got a random battle just on the edge of a moving platform in the outside. After the battle, the platform moved but I wasn't on it. I moved close to the edge and Kaim jumped down and fell indefinitely.

Great game btw. I have a question about the Backyard battles though...I need help with the
Moneys
. I can't get them to use their coin tosses. Can anyone help?

Don't you have to win in less than 10 turns though? At least for the bonus.

Use slot hit on them, it forces and guarantees a successful coin toss

Temple of Enlightenment is so brutal. Has anyone gone through it? I have a side quest for it but can't even survive one battle.

Done it, but only with some help from the guide, it's just crazy, but the hellish Kelolon are marvelous, they go down quite easily (well not that much, but..) and they always give ya a level up, bad thing is that they are pretty rare

Oh! Forgot! I just wanted to say that, Gongora is the worst enemy ever, period. He's not even funny. Kefka, where are you, my dear?

There is no fucking miracle that can help me beat the freaking Living Ice POS. I can take 4000 damage out of him already (taught Ming Black Magic 4), but he finally casts Reflecr and All Aqua and I CANNOT touch him. Tips?

Make sure your front line is fully buffed and have your magic casters use the elemental items to do damage.

If i´m not confusing the boss you´re against...use Powerus/speeda on Mack to boost his attacks and defensive spells to mitigate the boss ones.

Keep using defensive/healing spells while Mack erodes its HP.

I've enjoyed the 30+ hours I've put into this game so far, but Lost Odyssey definitely proves that a game can have too many cutscenes and that random encounters are the way of the past. The random encounters in addition to the battles rarely being quick(Equip different rings on melee characters per battle, determine whether you need to use pickpocket ring first, etc.) make the whole thing a chore. On top of this the director has added a billion retarded mini-games(Push crates, et al) and made me walk at no distance against a raging ice storm for what seemed like forever... TWICE.

All of that said, the dreams and environments make up for it. Walking around is always a treat(minus the battles) and it's worth talking to everyone in hopes of tracking down yet another dream or treasure hunt.

Mack only makes like 2 HP damage on him because he's level 18 =P. Well, I am bout to say "Fuck you" to this game. I love it, REALLY REALLY love it, but its impossible to beat him, especially when I suck at micromanagement and I don't have Barricadus, Shieldus, bla bla bla. After he casts reflect I get fucked over. I don't have this much time to waste. Meh....

As it was said before, if you have stuff like Ground Bombs, have your spellcasters use them. They aren't affected by Reflect. Or you could always try to level up Mack a little..

I can't level up Mack because when you get him back you are sent to the fight automatically. Quick question... can I go back to the "remains" and buy more bombs there? Also I am not sure if any of my characters have Dispel =S

Hm...sorry, not sure about buying stuff where you're at. Also, Dispel is useless for Reflect.

I think I was a bit under levelled for that boss too. If you have the water charm it should help especially for mack since he's at level 18. My guess would be to boost up Jansen's magic and try to boost macks physical powers. As for ming have her cast protective stuff like all-baricade and shield if you have it. You don't really need dispel because I didn't have it at that point I don't think. What you should do though is try and time it so that you ease up just before he casts reflect. So that when he casts it you don't wipe your own party out. You could also try stuff like cove etc to see if that helps. Also if Cooke has access to high level black and white magic you could have her help both ming and jansen depending on your needs. She's quite good at black magic too so you could boost her stats if you can that is.
