Just beat it... damn what a great ending.
Seth.. NOOOOOOO!! :-(
The game was absolutely incredible and the best JRPG I've played this gen. If any game demands a sequel it's this one. There were a few rough spots but when the Gooch got it right he really got it right. Story was servicable. 1000 year dreams was ingenius. The graphics were surprisingly good. UE3 was pretty well used here. All equipment shows on your character. Weapons are painstakingly detailed. Magic and weapon effects are some of the best in the genre. I didn't too much care for Blue Dragon but this cemented MistWalker as one of my favorite developers.

Beautiful game.

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time.
I'm 9 hours in and reeeeeeally enjoying this game. I'm in Numara. So far I actually like it better than most of the Final Fantasy games that I've played. It amazes me that all of the characters so far are actually likeable! I haven't met those kids yet & I hear a lot of complaints about them, heh. But I still find it very impressive how much I like the characters. Gongora is the weakest character so far, but I still like him. The dreams are super good and provide fantastic character backstory to a degree which I haven't seen in any other jRPG. The art style and graphics are simply superb, and I'm actually really enjoying the battle system. I heard that the first two bosses were supposed to be really hard, but I must say that I only died once on the 2nd boss and I didn't find them very difficult at all. The game is a blast though and I can't wait to continue.

Plus, my girlfriend really likes this game too, which is a huge plus :D

Then you shouldn't have much difficulty at all through the rest of the game. Just remember to keep everyone leveled up, and that the kids have some of the most valuable skills for your immortals to learn.

good to see more people picking this up and enjoying it. Easily one of my favs. I hope MW is able to do a sequel someday...

I went through a SMT phase during last generation, playing DDS 1 & 2, Devil Summoner, and most of Persona 3 & Nocturne, and I don't know if I'll ever find any jRPGs difficult after that :lol

yeah just learn all the new shit that comes for the mortal characters and you'll be good. i never died until i got to
ancient fiend (the colorful bird at the beginning of disc 4)
. pretty much keep up with the mortals' skills, use immortals in combat, abuse poweraga, and wear anti-petrify rings at bosses and you'll be good.

I also loved the ending and your spoiler is why there needs to be a sequel to this game...the fact that we haven't heard anything about it yet though worries me.

How did the game sell? That's always a good indication about a possible sequel.

I'd much rather see a Blue Dragon sequel, but LO did indeed sell better. Mistwalker is already canning projects it seems (Cry On), so I doubt they have enough push to do both.

I beat Lost Odyssey about 2 weeks back and it's one of the more enjoyable RPGs this generation for sure (though there's quite a lack of them at this point).

As for the difficulty, I found the fights against
the Queen's general to be hard due to his charged cannons
. Outside of that, there were a few other fights that were generally hard but nothing that made me want to quit.

I didn't do too many of the side-bosses outside of the one at the island that was called the Holy Beast. I did play the DLC dungeon and made it to the 10th level before taking the elevator and deciding I wanted to beat the game and not mess around anymore.

I skipped the backyard battles and ended up with 39 hrs and 59 minutes of gameplay before finally beating it.

it sold over 400k in the US and Japan. When it came out it charted in all major EU countries. like others have said i believe its over 700k.

I like verifiable numbers. Not that big of a difference there. Still a moderate success worthy of a sequel I would hope.

Plus, it's the type of theme that would work infinitely well in future games with a different cast of characters and world ala Final Fantasy. Just like the Chrono games should just have been an RPG series where the theme was time travel and they hadn't gone the route they did with Chrono Cross.

I'll just second that the four anthros were really really fucking hard mainly because of the "time limit".

Anyways, I'm slowly getting back into a JRPG mindset, having started up Blue Dragon again recently. I was in the midst of an all out Grind Fest to get every skill for every character in LO when I left it. Could be time to go back?

I'm considering just booting it up, saving in a different slot, finishing the game and then going back to that old save to finish grinding.

I like the game, but the loading was killing it for me. Installing it improves the game greatly. Much more enjoyable and reasonable load times for battles. It really becomes a different game.

I'm at the beginning of disc 4. Hope to finish it soon!

I haven't ever managed to really get into many JRPG's but found Lost Odyssey really accessible and loved every minute of it. I heartily recommend LO if you're looking to dip your toes into the market.

IMO, you just got past the high point. Disc 3 was amazing, with stunning cutscenes and an excellent climax to the story,
but the 4th tossed the whole story in the shitter. It was half decent until I got through Numara, but the whole morality trip there started the downturn for me, and the final bit leading up to Gongora was not much better. I'm used to final bits of Sakaguchi RPGs shunting the story a bit to the side, but this ripped it to shreds.

I'm finally finished with Numara and next time I play I'll head towards the Crimson Forest. I met Cooke & Mack and so far I like them. The scene of
Lirum's death
was quite emotional and really quite well done. The fetch quest and mini game were a bit odd, but I think it did the funeral more justice than a cutscene would have. I've gotten some more dreams and for the most part they're really good. Some are better than others, but I really enjoy reading them all. Oh, and the music is briliant. I'm loving this game so far.

Can anyone give me some tips on using the status ailment spells? I feel like it is a waste of a turn to try and use sleep/paralyze/poison/petrification on enemies because it VERY rarely seems to have any effect.

I am currently on disk 3 and I use Kaim, Seth, Jansen, Cooke, and Sarah as my team.

Bah don't waste your time. You do need Sleep for an event on Disc 4, but it works there. Seriously, I never got any of the ailments to work on enemies :lol

You'll have more success with status ailments if you equip a ring with a high probability of effecting the enemy.

true, another plus is that you don't have to waste a spell on it. the only time where I remember you have to use a status effect to win is one of the later backyard battles, the dog of the ring master

One of my very favorite games on X360. It's right up there with Mass Effect to me. I really fucking hope that there's a sequel in the works for this game. If I can get a Blue Dragon 2 and Lost Odyssey 2 from Mistwalker this gen it'll be wonderful in the biggest possible way.

Might be a dumb question, but with the recent price drop I'm considering buying this game, but I'm reading about some long load times. Can you download the game to your HDD and just play it from there to reduce the length?

I'm on the 3rd disk, and I have to say, this game really took off in terms of story and I am loving it!

Sooo hooked on this and I'm currently at work so I have to wait to get home and be antisocial on this Friday night to just get back to the story. Jensen is seriously the best character ever too.

I do have to say that Gongora is kind of a lame villain, I don't get his inspiration for everthig he is doing...

I wish I could say that.
I finished disc three today and looking back it got progressively worse. It might have been a good thing that the last third (or half of it, I'm not sure) was filled with pointless padding. The story is just not doing anything for me and the whole theme of immortality is used to much greater effect in the flashbacks. By the end of disc one I had some hope left, but the left engine was already burning. At the end of disc two the plot had already crashed into the ocean. I just accepted that it wouldn't get any better from that point on. Blue Dragon was leagues ahead in this department (i.e. solid), even though I didn't like any of the characters.

He's the power hungry madman type and not much beyond that. I don't expect anything else from him at this point. He's not going to be the true final boss though, count on that. I'll be surprised if it's not some form of evil incarnate from the dawn of the universe.

I agree on Jansen. I can't go as far as saying he's the best or even great, but he is one of the more refreshing characters in my recent memory. He shines especially bright compared to Kaim who's so stoic he might as well be a silent protagonist...

I agree. Installed all 4 disks and almost zero load times. The only problem is that I miss a lot of the tips dialogue when loading and character stats, but I can live without it.

Just wondering...what's your favorite current gen rpg? this game got me back into the genre and I'm thinking about vesperia next.

Alright, so I'm on Disc 2 in the town of Saman. I really enjoyed the Old Sorceress' Mansion, it was a very different environment from typical jRPGs. Saman seems to have a similar feel but I haven't explored it at all yet. I really enjoyed the small village of Tosca, it was a very nice and quite place. I love the level cap in each area because it only takes a few fights to hit it and then I can just run away from the rest of the battles in that area. It's nice to know that I'm not missing much, except SP for skills and such. The battle system is pretty fun, my only complaint is that each battle can take a while with 5 characters and a bunch of enemies.

The mini-games in Lost Odyssey are kind of strange. That music game in Numara was odd, and I probably spent about 20 minutes trying to get all of the statues in Tosca. None of them are as bad as blitzball in FFX, but it's just further proof that mini-games in jRPGs are a bad idea. The short time with that boat was pretty fun though. So far I'm still really enjoying the game and can't wait to play more.

Oh, and Cooke & Mac's song was so incredibly funny. The actual song and meaning was alright, but it just came out of freakin' nowhere when the mood was all serious :lol

That is a big difference.

So how does installing Lost Odyssey work? Do you install one disc at a time, or all at once? All I've got is a 20GB HDD.

You install one disc at a time. I've got a 20GB HDD too, so I just install whichever disc I'm on at the time. It's kind of pointless to have all of the discs installed at the same time.

Load times are much better with the install : )

You can install 1 disc at a time, whenever it comes time to go to the next disc, you can save it, swap discs and install.

Finished up Disc 2 tonight - quite an intense way to end it. I'm still really enjoying the game and so far I'd definitely put it with some of the best jRPGs I've ever played. Saman was a very cool village - I wish we got to spend more time there. Then the whole ship and introduction to Experimental Staff was awesome. I really enjoyed Experimental Staff as a dungeon and I liked how it had many 'hidden' treasures and movable platforms. The
Gongora fight
was pretty cool, but I wish it didn't end like it did.

I probably won't play Lost Odyssey for a little while because of Skate 2, but I look forward to continuing it eventually.

Just finished it... so obvious spoiler endings

They spend an entire game trying to portrait the emotions of someone whose lived 1,000 years, seen countless others die, and then shit on it right at the end? Every single ending that the remaining immortals had at the end will end with death and they'll get all pissy again. Also, Gongora made for a stupid villain. I'd have felt better if it ended with them all going through that mirror to save the mortals.

I dunno, it's the first JRPG I've played in awhile... maybe I've just forgotten how campy their endings are. The game was pretty fun until the beginning of disc 4 though. Unfortunately it's still probably the best JRPG on the 360.
