Official North American Lost Odyssey Thread

My party is around level 50 and I just finished the two Grand Staff parts at the end. The only thing that rests is Gongora but I read everywhere that you should be around level 60?

My question now is, what is a good place to level? The Temple of Enlightment is too hard, I won't survive two battles in a row :(

I loved the game, 55hours to beat.. the end boss I thought was a pretty epic fight.

Only thing I hated was the packaging but thats microsoft's fault i guess.

Yup, main reason is i taught all my casters Double Cast which made a HUGE difference and also Double Accessories. I sucked at Skill Linking until into disc 4. But yeah, the levels made a difference and I used better tactics this time since I decided to play like it was a chess game or something :lol Hell, when I got to fight Gongora all my characters had 100% HP from the previous beast battle, a huge difference since last time when Kaim was the only one alive for the next fight. At the end of the Gongora fight though, I was starting to break down with the All Stonus and having Sarah just "de-stone" everyone. Got a few hits there, and I was in a crisis point at the end when BAM... Kaim delivered the final blow. So good :D

Lost Odyssey 2 please, faster paced battle system and no random battles.

Okay, so, I have no idea where to go in this game. I'm on Disc 4. Do I go and fight the Arthrosaurus? Or is that optional? My party is around level 45 and I get wiped out. This is hard as Hell.

Where do I go, what do I do? Am I already doing the right thing?

The Arthosaurus was really hard. What I did was make one fall asleep, fight the other one, defeat him, then go to the other pair on the other side, sleep one, beat the other, go back to the first one I left sleeping then beat the last one.

Also, Fire Resistance is a must since those monsters have a damn hard fire breath attack. Try to get an accessory or something that gives you that skill.

Started this game and I have a question. Right now I'm the
airship about to meet the queen (disc 1)
and I wonder when I will be able to return to previous areas. See the thing is, I gave one of those Moogle-like creatures 19 seeds and I read 20 gives you an item. I found my 20th seed in the desert, but I figured I'd return later... Maybe that wasn't such a good idea. Will I be able to return to that base still in this disc or soon? It sucks if not, because those seeds will be lost :s

btw the bosses in this game are pretty hard. The two I had to face so far wiped out my party a couple of times before I got it right. Those two worms in particular, damn

^ You'll find many more pipots later in the game, and your seeds carry over. So when you give the next pipot your seed, you will get your reward :)

Proudly debt free. If you need a couple bucks, just ask.

The two worms and the giant flying thing are probably the most difficult bosses in the game. Later one are challenging, but doable.

Maybe a bit late, but just level up outside the entrance where the save point is. Just remember to heal up between battles. If you're out of items for restoring hp/mp then just save, quit and load the save again.

Also, I beat Gongora on level 55 and could easily have done it on a lower level. The most important (as mentioned) is
getting Double Cast (for the healers), as well as Auto MP Recovery. Also make sure to have anti-petrify and, if possible, the ability to absorb/proof all the elements.
Of course, the higher your level is the less you need all those goodies.

Damn I'm liking this game more and more. At the start of disc 2 now (
just beat the tank that blocked me off Nomura, I wanted to give that art guy my crystal fragments :s
) and even though everything plays out like your typical FF, it's done in a very good way. Kaim is a good protagonist and most of the other characters are believable as well. The only bad character so far was the Numorian general, every scene with him kinda fell flat.
It has the only things I liked about FFX (good atb system, minimalist approach to equipment) and improves all the things that sucked in that game: characters and a good atmosphere. Plus it has the pretty straightforward skill system from VI/IX, which I always liked.

Only complaints: loading is waaay too frequent, battles are a bit slow (is showing the scenery before battling a way to mask load times?) and I grow weary of reading the dreams if they're placed at close intervals. Nomura had like... 6? Skipped em all, may read later.

Oh shit, and Uematsu's music! Am I the only one who thinks it's one of his best works yet? I love the Nomura theme and worldmap location select screen in particular. And of course, the goosebump moment of the game: the opening credits.

About the loading: very likely. I've had the framerate occasionally stutter when the game triggered a random battle and the disc tray was making more noises at the same time, so...

And I think you're at the part where the "pacing" for the dreams became a little off. I too remember suddenly getting a lot of dreams (which you can easily skip fortunately) in the area's you're exploring right now, but when I hit the third and fourth disc, they were suddenly rather hidden compared to the others.

yep! It was this little village and it had about 4 dreams, I mean come on.

Also, party advice: I now have
Ming
, should I kick out one of the kids and bring her in? Pros: immortal + magic caster, cons: I have to teach her a lot of skills again, which will take time.

Always use your immortals since they can learn any skill.

Yeah that's what I'm doing now. I have one free spot for a mortal who's just there to pass his skills along.

Make that Jansen. He will learn nice skills for casters. Also try to get in Cooke, her healing spells kick major ass. I found Mack useless, BUT
... there is a point in Disc 3 where there is a party split up
so make sure you have him and Cooke somewhat leveled up.

Since I finished MGS4 I went back to play LO. Last time I played was ages ago but I was already on the third disc around level 31 or so!

So close to finishing it!

Don't neglect your other party members for all eternity though. You'll need everyone pretty soon-ish (somewhere around disc 3 at least) if my memory serves me right. I for one completely ignored Mack because he's a little bitch, and that came back to bite me in the ass...

Ok. So far I haven't neglected anyone really, I'll keep swithing party members around once in a while. Mack's not so bad in battle, kind of a helping damage dealer. He gives you combo, power hit and wall so he's all right with me.

Downside of having 4 immortals is that menu management time is increasing. I have to change equips/links every 2 battles now

Just did the Black Cave dungeon and I'm taking the boat off a cursed town. I stopped reading the dreams altogether, maybe I'll catch up on them once I finish disc 2. Most of the time the stories aren't even that interesting to read, except maybe the one that had Seth's backstory.

About 10 hours in and I'm loving this game despite the difficulty. The boss fights can be a bit frustrating, but I suppose there is satisfaction in beating them.

Even though i'm only at disc 2, I'll echo the other statements in the thread: the first 2 bosses are by far the hardest thing in the game so far. 20 hours in now and I haven't even come close to dying tbh. Once you get a full party together and the skills are flying around, it's all a matter of picking the right strategy and sticking to it.

The first boss was difficult. The worms were a bit of pain, but I didn't come close to dying even though it was a long battle. Right now I'm having trouble with
the soldiers in Nomura, the ones picking on Mack and Cooke. They smash up my party with those stupid rush attacks even after I cast all-shield! I'm grinding in the crimson forest and then I'm going to demolish them.

Love this game. All I have left is the final dungeon and the optional dungeon... may just scale the floors to get the achievement for the dlc dungeon... sounds pretty lame... looking forward to the finale though.

I liked the finale quite a bit :D :D

Lost Odyssey 2 please.

Picked this up yesterday, along with Zack and Wiki... Not going to start until I finish Blue Dragon, however, I'm on the last dungeon so won't take me too long! The other half is going to kill me, he can't stand watching me play RPGs - BD makes him want to tear his hair out, hence why I tried to soften the blow by getting Z&W at the same time.:lol

Wait 'till you get to Disc 3. :)

Just got to disc 3.

I've decided that the voice actor for Gongora is the only poor one of the bunch, and it doesn't help that his lines feel a bit tired. I'm still enjoying the story though.

Very excited to see where this goes...

Just beat this game last night. Definitely one of the tougher RPGs I've played recently. All in all I'd probably give it a B-, Kaim was a fantastic protagonist, but some of the characters were really annoying. Jansen was annoying as hell at first but he actually grew on me. Occasionally it felt as though the bosses were overly cheap and luck or tons of grinding was required to win, fortunately I got by with the former. The story was engaging, and the whole dream viewing thing is cool.

I'll keep my eye out for future projects by Sakaguchi (Cry-On looks neat if that isn't cancelled), but I don't think I'll play Blue Dragon as the characters seemed really annoying in the demo and reviews seem to indicate it doesn't get any better. :/

The reviews are full of crap. The game gets better as you progress through it, and the demo is a very poor indicator of how the full game turns out, or so most GAFers will say. I'm not even one of BD's strong advocates, but those assumptions are false.

I've started disc 3 now and the skills you can get are starting to get interesting: 2 accessories? yum. Minutes later: +3 skill slots. Damn, now I'm starting to pack heat. Is there a double SP thing later on, or something of that nature?

Still having a lot of fun with the game. The story is a bit less... eventful lately so I hope that picks up.

I got Fable II in the mail this week but I chose to stick with this game since I was halfway through already.

You get something akin to double SP later on in the game, yes. Can't miss it either.

I agree. Especially after what happened now (disc 3)
the group has split up and Gongora has gone mental
. Normally I'm not a fan of long cutscenes but I have to say the latest turn of events was quite entertaining to watch. Story has been given a shot of adrenaline and I can't stop playing now

sorry for the dp but i felt like updating with my recent thoughts on the game (disc 4)

- game is still generally awesome. Disc 3 as a whole was phenomenal. You spend a lot of time watching the story unfold, but they handled that pretty well. I beat the majority of disc 3 in one sitting, couldn't pull myself from the game.
- loading times start to annoy me a bit when you want to do some exploring and sidequesting. Going from town to town for treasures, royal seals and whatnot can be tiresome.
- didn't like the Ancient Ruins.
the gang is back together, only to get split up again. The other humans feel so unnecessary when you got immortals + sed
- a jrpg actually pulled something off that I thought the genre was incapable of:
a good romance subplot. Jansen & Ming's scene on the White Boa was believable and convincing. Good job voice actors. The song that played in their segment on disc 3 was lame though, good thing they didn't choose to use it in the important scene

I have to go to
Grand Staff
now, but I'm gonna do some sidequesting first. Yes I'm going for the 1000 in this game

I'm finally getting this tonight and am very excited. (Vesperia will be after :D ).

A couple quick questions:

1.) I know from the installs thread it's best to just install each disc as you play because you have to swap them anyway, but is there any advantage to installing all of them at the same time...aside from not having to do that again?

2.) Should I bother getting the DLC before I even start the game, or after I beat it?

3.) Any tricks or things I shouldn't miss? There's nothing like FFXII's stupid "open the first treasure miss the most powerful weapon in the game" thing, is there? And is it true I should try NOT to reach the level cap when I can...? Wut?

PIcked this up a month ago for $15 at Target.

Despite having some trouble with the first two bosses, I'm liking this game. Got stuck on the Metal Gear Stealth part, but once I knew what I was doing it was short and easy.

I like the story and the characters. The battle system is fun and the skill system is neat and easy once you learn it.

I'm not a fan of no grinding though. When an RPG discourages grinding, that usually means it forces you to beat bosses in a very specific way. That can sometimes force you to find every spell/skill in the wild.

Another little nag is the use of a menu to navigate rather than an over world map.

About how long is this game? I've read between 45-60 hours.

Yeah, it just depends on how much you put into it and if you do any of the side dungeons or activities. I put in around 60+ hrs.

Yeah I had to level a bit for that one, the one after that is kinda hard too, but that's about it. The game get easier and easier after that.

The bird (and one afterwards) are the hardest bosses in this game.

My second favorite 360 JRPG after Tales of Vesperia :D

The four dinosaur part gave me some troubles as well, and a couple of the sidequest bosses are pretty tough.

I'm back and forth with this game. the
mini games like the stealth and the torch lighting (which was a real bitch, btw)
totally kill the flow.

This game has me crying, laughing, getting frustrated and angry within a span of 10 minutes.

The battle system is average, the in game currency seems like an afterthought, there's no armor or real upgrades to weapons. Theres nothing to buy. The bosses so far require specific strategies and discourage grinding.

The only reason why I feel compelled to keep playing this game are the dreams, which carry the game and let's face it, without the dreams, this game would be throughly average.

I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this. I've been tempted to turn the game off a couple of times, but the characters and the dreams keep me coming back for more.

Does the special edition come with a pack of tissues and a box that holds all four discs that don't stack them like a big-mac? :lol
