*OFFICIAL* Pro Evolution Soccer 5 Thread!

Juno

LIAR and a FELON
Well well Boys and Girls,

It's due this Friday 21st around Europe and PAL-land. Some of you might be lucky enough to get the game early. I'm quite eager to hear how it compares to its Winning Eleven counterpart and what changes have been made (cosmetics/gameplay).

Anything about the game: reviews, press and such should go here.

Anyone silly enough to have forgot to order it:

Play UK (PC)
Play UK (Xbox)
Play UK (PS2)
Play UK (PSP) * Due 18th Oct

Here is a link to the ad which was (supposedly) banned in the UK.

We have that ad on TV in Sweden. Is it banned in the UK cause it's controversial to feature an Arsenal and a Chelsea player together or what?

Why? Becasue the British Advertising Commision felt that the groundsman could have been killed when the lawnmower went over the cable!
:lol

btw did you get my email? thank you very much man :)

Been playing the PC demo for a while and I still don't know what to make of it. Shielding the ball seems to be a thing of the past and it's definitely slower than 4. At first I thought it was a damn sight better than 4, but we had a huge tournament on PE 4 and it seemed more fun. I don't know, I think it'll require extensive playing in order to find out. :)

No. Apparently the groundsman going over the power lead with the lawnmower could have been misconstrued as a fatal accident and not suitable before the watershed.

It was aired in the UK so it must have been dumb old people with nothing better to do than complain that got it taken off. You only need about something stupid like 10 complaints from viewers and the BSC can remove an ad from circulation.

Pretty lame I know. As is the UK's TV watchdog (the BSC). :\

I could never get used to the fact WE9 was slower than PES4...And my friends crushed me...(well, they also crushed me on PES4). But it's ok, in revenge I just play in the Chelsea-way while they try to do nice soccer. Mwahahahaha :P
Haven't tried PES5 yet though.

I didn't like the pace of PES3 - way too fast for my liking. PES2 has been my favourite in the series by far. I wasn't overly convinced with 4.

Could anyone who's played it say whether it's more like 2 or 3?

yeah it takes time to manage a PES game. i played maybe 7 games of PES5 when i tried it. and i scored like 4 goals (2 on a freekick with totti, i just could not score in another way :lol). it was great though, but you really feel lousy when you first play it. i even played against a friend and could not score. i felt the transcending was harder this time than going from PES3 to 4.

the new animation was great though. you could really see it was robben who had the ball on the left flank. awesome. the new edit functions should make the game even better, since you sit there and change things 1/3 of your playtime :D

BTW, are individual actions so hard to perform as in WE9 ? I am talking mainly about dribbling which is very infeffficient in WE9 in comparisson to PES4.

I can't wait for this. Should be getting it thursday hopefully if they let me (at work).

btw There's always a transitional period when changing from one pro evo to another. After that people tend to fall in love with the series all over again.

i can't wait to see pro evo for next gen consoles.

yeah i think so. in PES4 i could dribble easily with robben but in pes5 it was super hard. i need time and pratice before i can play the way i have got used to in pes4. like, when you dribble the defender can push you so you get out of balance. its really hard to explain but in short, yes its much harder to dribble in PES5 (at least in your first games).

they've made the freekicks a lot easier this time around though. i scored twice on a freekick when i tried roma. so that's good i guess, it was kinda hard to score on a freekick in 4.

= why the ad was banned.

:lol

Don't know about the PS2 version, but the XBox version of WE9 had some wierd issues. Most notably was the fact that sometimes when balls went off defenders, the throw in would be awarded to the defending team. It's something I got used to, but it was still pretty annoying. There are other issues with the game, but it was still extremely playable. BTW, when is it due out in North America?

I'm interested in getting my PS2 online for this game. I've only recently got broadband in my room but it's through a wireless USB adapter. The ADSL modem itself is downstairs. Any way I can get around that?

Anyone know what's gonna be available online and what it's been like in previous games? Roster updates?

WE9 is so much better than 8. First, the defense is harder. Secondly the pace is slowed down so you will have a ton of mid field battle. Thirdly, crossing is not an almost automatic score like in WE8; in WE9 you need to be a bit better on the pitch. However, WE9 music sucks compared to 8. I don't know what changes they made from the Japanese version except some names, roster changes, and voices. But, WE9 is the real deal in soccer. The goals will be lower but you will have some tense possession games.

This is all from the PS2 version I can't imagine playing on an xbox because of all of the super cancels you need to do sometimes. What's the button combo?

Been playing this for quite some time, pretty good, but still has that stupid behaviour of the players when they dont have the ball and try to defend, specially when you have the possibility to recover the ball, things like players running in stupid directions(instead of the quickest route to get the ball) and the game mechanics changing to the closest player to the ball , resulting sometimes in changing to the players in the worst positions to get the ball. Also whats with the new feint where you hold R2 and press back???it only works well if you're walking from left to right or right to left because doing it in diagonal directions is a nightmare.....

some info, for the un-updated person.

More Licenses

English Licenses will be included for the first time ever. But don't get too excited, only Arsenal and Chelsea are going to be licensed. Other new licenses include those for Rangers, Dynamo Kiev, Galatasaray and FC Porto. 2005/06 kits will be added for the clubs from La Liga and the Dutch Eredivisie. Real numbers and lettering is included for the licensed teams. Updated kits have been added for the unlicensed clubs.

New Stadiums

Mestella - Valencia (Spain)
Riazor - Deportivo la Coruna (Spain)
Newlands - Ajax Cape Town (South Africa)
Saitama - Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan)
Berlin Olympiastadion - Hertha BSC (Germany)

Improved Graphics

Although the game uses the same engine as in Pro Evolution Soccer 4, there are various enhancements. Players will now be seen to have their shirts untucked, and can also have tape on their fingers (generally used to cover rings). Wristbands are also now included in multiple colours and players can wear cycling shorts underneath the club shorts. Players will now also move better around the pitch thanks to even more animations.

A new weather condition has been added, snow. Now you can play in even the coldest conditions, and even see breath coming from players mouths. Also to do with the pitch, you can now play with new balls, including an orange ball for the snow conditions. More ad boards can be seen around the sides of the pitch. Previously only 3 different styles were repeated whereas now there are many more styles.

And There's More...

- Improved online play. Konami have promised less noticeable lag. In addition you can now compete your Master League teams against each other.
- Improved Master League with more control of player growth.
- Two new positions: Wing Back (For players like Cafu who go forward a lot but are defenders) and Second Top (For players like Scholes who play generally just behind the strikers).

Does anyone know if the North American version is online? I swear I read it somewhere (I think GI) that Winning Eleven 9 will have online. Make it so Konami!

Can PC and PS2 users play against each other online?

I've just ordered PES5 PC from the UK. It's damn cheap. Only £18!

Wooh! :)

the game is released on friday right? play.com hasnt shipped my copy yet, so i wont have it before the weekend.. fucking lame.. :( i will never pre-order a game i want on the release day again.

About PC VERSION

Is it confirmed that it will be possible to play in 4 players?
They said this a few month ago.

I don't know if 2 players for each pc or 4 players from 4 different pcs.

Moreover, I don't remember if it was confirmed too, but in Japan, you can play PS2 version in 4 players, using 2 Playstation...

Tell me please.

Does anyone know why Pro Evo doesn't have the FIFPRO license? Some of the crappier football titles on the market do.

Some of the players are awful judging by these screens.

Do Konami only research the big name players? :lol

I wonder who these could be

I guess we'll get a proper overall next gen as these models are probably recyled from past games, still disappointing though.

Yeah, no matter how long I pre-order in advance I'll always get my order on a Tuesday if it's released on a Friday.

Quite annoying.

CAnt wait for this, PS2 version for me though. DS2 > Controller S for PES

I totally agree with you there. Usually the S Controller is really good for sports, but most Xbox users never believe me when I say the game is so much better on the Dual Shock. It is a shame too because the loading is so much better on the Xbox. But I will take control over load times any day.

I always end up using the d-pad on DS2 as the analogue sticks are rubbish if you ask me. Picked up every version of PES and a lot of WE on PS1/PS2 and the Xbox version of PES4 controls much better as I can use the sticks. The only bad thing is the lack of 2 shoulder buttons. The loading times really help, I play on PS2 at work and Xbox at home and you can see the difference.

Xbox version with a magic box converter, it's the best of both worlds. Hopefully 'change player' will be able to be mapped to L1 this time, it was stuck on L2 in PES4, but otherwise the Xbox controls were perfect on the Dual Shock.

i just hope pesfan.com gets a option file for the xbox out pretty fast. i'll be playing on live until they do.

With the regular controllers? It's pretty much impossible. :lol But there's a couple controllers that have the black and white buttons placed at the top of the pad (as well as their usual positions on the front), so the PS2 layout can be replicated.

This Star Wars two pack is one option. For whatever reason the single versions I've seen don't have the buttons on the top of the pad, so just ignore those.

The other option is the Pelican Afterglow. Not sure I'd recommend it though...the left trigger button went wonky after like six months. :lol The two pack is better value for the money anyway.

If you're used to the Dual Shock though, just stay with it. I've never liked the Dual Shock myself, so I'll do anything I can to avoid it. :lol

The full one? Doesn't the FIFPRO license also encompass club licenses?

FIFPRO just encompasses the players...I think it's a world organization that professional soccer players belong to. Hardly matters for me...some of the roster files made by people online are so good I really don't miss the full club license.

Oh BTW I know there's virtually zero chance of this being the case, but...is Canada finally in the game? :lol

Everyone that bitches about the xbox controller for pro evo is a complete pussy. The S is fine, super cancel isn't any trouble at all abd after a week, it's like you never switched!

question for UK people...

I want to buy PES5 for xbox tomorrow from game but I would like to download the edited option files online. Is their anything I can get in the shops that can do this besides ordering one of those max drive things online,

I could do that but I dont want to wait... :D gamestation, CEX or GAME I dont care really.
