*OFFICIAL* Pro Evolution Soccer 5 Thread!

PC for me. I hope they've fixed the offside rule, I swear they used to call me offside when I never was. The replay even proved it, but it used to fucking do the slow-down/freeze AFTER the ball was played. Gah.

I guess if i wait for the 360 controllers to ship i can get it on PC and have the best of all worlds...i can probably wait, FM2006 comes out tomorrow too (I was trying to get the GAME store near where i work to break the street date earlier, they werent buying the "Dixons just offered to sell me a copy" line).

and then Civ 4 comes out in a month...I still have B&W2 to finish.

My free time = spent.

Best sports game series ever? Damn right!! The game has pretty much owned every other footie game for the last 10 years

I won't be getting this tomorrow but it'll be bought very soon.

The Logitech Dual Action pad is pretty similar to the Dual Shock 2.

This is all from the PS2 version I can't imagine playing on an xbox because of all of the super cancels you need to do sometimes. What's the button combo?

What does "super cancel" refer to? The only thing I use the R2 button for is the feint (press direction perpendicular to the direction you're facing together with R2).

Play didn't deliver today! Better be here tommorow...

There is actually a shop here in Dubai which has it already, so I'll go and make a trip there later today :D

Eurogamer's review is, as always, brilliant. If there was any doubt to be had in purchasing the game, it's now gone. My PC version of the title is on the way. Can't wait! :)

The Xbox version seems to be of somewhat short supply. I got an email from HMV saying they don't know when they'll be getting stock in and it could take up to 4 weeks. At first I thought they were just bullshitting so I'll cancel and they won't have to honour the £14.99 mistake they made, but I headed over the GAME website and they esitimate 10+ days for it too. Thankfully good old Gameplay.co.uk saved the day for me again.

How much do you think it will be worth trading it in? really really hate it.
give it time man. PES games are always tough at the beginning. play it for a week at least.

Has anyone tried out Master League mode and can comment on the changes?

I'm most interested if off season training has been improved/reduce and if opposing teams will more aggressively try to hire talented players, but any info will do.

Thanks!

UK has Saturday deliveries, and they're usually pretty early (before 9am!)

If it makes you feel any better, I'm playing it right now and it's brilliant :D :p

I'm kind of a master league newbie, as my PES experiences have almost always been in a multiplayer enviroment or when there's people in the room waiting to play in a league or such.
my rank is 4046 lol
Is this including Japanese players?! The game only came out today so if that's just people who got it this morning/early around Europe (that have gone online) then that's very impressive.

EDIT: ARGH! Just got the e-mail saying it's been dispatched and it's going to be at least 3-5 days! So Tuesday at the earliest... wish I'd forked out for next day delivery now. Curse me for being such a penny-scrounging idiot opting for Play's free delivery!

Oh yeah, someone please tell me that the replays last longer then the piddly 3 and a half seconds from the last couple games.

I'm a bit dissapointed with how quiet this thread is ON THE DAY of release. I'd also like someone to please answer Shinobi's question...

Also, any new options or updates in the replay feature?

I guess people are too busy playing to say anything. :lol Hopefully this game is harder, 'cause WE8's become a walk in the park the last few months (granted I'm using Arsenal, but still...).

The game has a slower pace due to the fact that players miss a lot more passes if you just want to trade the ball around between players all at the 1st touch of the ball. You have to be alot more aware of the players' positions and distances to have a successful ball trade between them. The ball won't always go where you'd want it to be when doing long through passes, be it through ground or air. You have to do them with a certain stance and at a certain distance (and of course, with the right players) to get them as close as you'd wish to their destination.
Players are a lot more intelligent this time, be it defence or offense.
Defenders are much more aware of their opponents' positions in the field and are able to track them much more accurately, which means you won't need to babysit them as much as you did in PES4 in order to be able to intercept passes. They'll be able to do that for you a lot more, leaving you free to worry about other stuff when defending.
On offense they're smarter too, because they now enjoy shooting the ball with the foot in crosses or rebounds while the ball is still on air, making for some spectacular volleys and whatnot, and since the collision detection is so great in this game, you could have shots where the player doesn't quite hit the ball directly, and then the shot goes like hitting the ground and then fooling the goalkeeper while it rebounds off the ground and jumps over the helpless guy.
The referee is alot smarter this time. He'll call almost almost all tackles correctly, and now there's even smart stuff that didn't happen before, like having a player brutally fouled, but waving "play on" (playing advantage), and then when the play ends, he gets near the player who commited foul and gives him a yellow card. There's now other stuff, like when your player has a yellow card and commits another hard foul, the ref can reach directly for the red card without showing first the second yellow (he always showed the 2nd yellow in PES4).
During those little replays in offsides and shots at goal that don't go in, it's now up the player who's on offense to decide whether he wants to watch the replay or not, whereas any player in PES4 could take away the replay, making for some angry faces, when you'd want to see your dangerous shot one more time or weren't sure that the offside playcalling was correct. Of course, in online mode neither of you could take away the replay (but i didn't play online in PES5 yet, so i can't comment on that).
The only thing worse that i've noticed so far, is that in some very rare shots, if you use the Y button to make your keeper come after the ball, he can sometimes just stop there looking at whatever he's looking and the ball just rolls over to the back of the net. It's stupid and happened twice on the same day to me. Weird..... (didn't happen in PES4)
That's all for now, you can ask other stuff if you want.

I've still nto got it yet, but my friend bought it. He says its fucking amazing, but he's struggling with it. I've always found myself like that too. Everytime I get a new Pro Evo game I find it difficult, but it doesnt take too long for me to get into gear and annihilate every team I play against, so long as I'm playing with Juve, they are the best team :D

I would get this but *looks at wallet* :(
Sacrifice any bit of money you have. Once you get the game you dont need anything else apart from some food from time to time.

Bloody hell this is tough. They really improved the ball physics, it spins and deflects off players beautifully.

I just ordered a PS2 to XBox converter so I can have the extra shoulder buttons AND the better graphics/online! :D

It's really cool how you can't just make perfect passes 99% of the time, whatever position and pressure you're in, like in PES4.
Try to pass the ball while facing the opposite direction, for instance, and you'll almost always miss it, or at least it won't go exactly where you wanted it to go, as in PES4.

I guess the only advantage that the Xbox version has over the PS2 version is the fact that you can play against anyone through Xbox Live and with the PS2 you're limited to the gamers from your region (PAL/NA/JNP).

Am I right?

I'm still happy with my PS2 (don't own Xdude nor NGC) and the controller's perfect for me.

Can't wait to kick some ass in the online mode.

no JPN servers.. but I think there are around 10k players online.. I played 6 more games today and won them all and my rank is still around 3000 with 88.9% for winning..

Can anyone confirm that the PC version will work on every version of Windows and the online mode will work fine? I don't want to wait until February for this.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU SCORE!?!?!

i get so fucking irritated on myself.. i cant even dribble with anyone haha. but the game is so fun so you keep working so hard for that damn goal.

Give it to players with decent long shots, you can usually force a corner at least or even get a nice deflected goal with the improved physics.

Yup, and adventurous/attacking formations work wonders. I stuck with Villa from PES4 for so so long, was doing okay, but hit a spell of 5 games without scoring.

Then I changed to a 4-3-3 attacking formation.

Since then I've been getting chances all over the place and if the right player is on the ball (usually a new signing) I'll have a damn good chance of scoring. Wing runs and constant dribbles rarely work, but chasing lost causes and bombarding the goal with low passes and offside destroying through balls can do the job.

I got the game on tuesday :D At first it was really slow and I couldnt get the hang of it but now I cant put the fucking game down. Its amazing. Everything feels like its in a real game. The players body language is a lot better now especially the keeper, they move exactly how they supposed to. Scoring is more difficult but its just like real life, you have to keep stroking the ball around and keep possession for opportunites to come to you. Konami have outdone themselves again.

When I first played the game with my friend we were playing all the rival matches such as Manyoo vs Man city, Arsenal vs Tottenham and Newcastkle vs Sunderland. For the Newacastle game he was newcastle and I was Sunderland, so straight away i thought I was going to lose, but I played so well with Sunderland. i tried Sunderland in other matches and for some reason I was great with them! I could actually have made them my master league team because I played so well with them but I opted for Manyoo :D

I loathed the game for about the first 3 matches I played but then it just clicked and I'm in love all over again. I haven't tried it online yet but I will soon.

I have mixed feelings on the gameplay aspect. The overall package is amazing and sans the fully licensed French, German, English and Scottish leagues it has everything I could want in a football game. Well, if I was being greedy I'd say online tournaments and leagues but that's probably a few years off.

Some of the players actions off the ball really irk me. Sometimes I'll try and pass to someone and the computer will attempt to pass to someone else (usually further away resulting in an interception). Other little things like players not clearing the ball as they should or collecting a ball that is not going to reach them (INSTEAD OF JUST STANDING THERE WAITING/WATCHING THE OPPOSING TEAMS PLAYERS TAKE IT). I'm not sure whether my pad isn't fully responsive for some reason so I'm going to buy a brand new DS2. Doubt it's that, though. I need another anyways...

Heh, a lot of that stuff has happened to me in the XBox version of WE8. Seems to be a random thing too...just no rhyme or reason for some of the stuff that takes place.
