The only "downside" to this is that it's time to get to work to find out about the best emulators and homebrew stuff... :D

I believe this to be an absolutely guaranteed fake.

That way I can be pleasantly surprised later in the week if it turns out to be real. :)

You pretend to be on the vehemently pessimistic side, but you're really just cautiously optimistic!

Interesting, that is the time of my flight... well, I will see if I will be able to get the exploit when I arrive in Japan, if it works well.

So what day you hooking up with Kutaragi for lunch ;)

I would be a lot more excited if the SNES emu ran at perfect speed :P It will be harder than expected since the speed of zsnes came from the fact it's 90% coded in x86 ASM...Hard to translate all those lines to MIPS asm !

Not so hard, unlike x86, MIPS asm was actually designed to be used by humans :P

Jejeje...I had a few problems a couple of weeks ago coding a simple cosinus for PS2 (using FPU asm) and I think I ended hating it a bit :P

to those saying it is fake because it hasn;t been released yet, that is just fucking stupid. SNES9X was shown in pictures before it was released. NEOGEO was shown in pictures before it was released, and I believe one other EMU (GBA?) was shown in pictures before it was released. just because it is running doesn't mean it's releasable.

But here is the thing I don't get. Come midweek are we going to have anything to use on it? Will it work with emulators released for 1.0?

Not really. If there is an exploit that works, why announce a "release date" for it? Surely that just gives Sony the time they need to get the lawyers in and C&D it before it can even be released. Also, there is no hard evidence to support the legitimacy of this exploit - videos are easily faked and in the past there have been many occasions when a video of something cool on the PSP has been exposed as a fake. Also suspicious is the fact that this exploit is being reported about on PSPHacker.com who are notorious for getting things completely wrong and have hyped up several bogus 1.5 hacks in the past including that MustUpdate thing. Basically, the people who are getting their hopes up are the ones whom you should be calling "stupid", since it's much more likely to be a fake than to be real. Also, if you assume that it is fake, and it turns out to be real, you get a nice surprise, which is much better than hoping it's real and finding out it's fake...

internet common sense dictates that unless the bearer of the news has an impeccable reputation, it's fake until proven otherwise...

how much space would a game like FF VI for the snes emu take on my Memorystick?

and how big is the EMU

Final Fantasy III/VI is about 3MB, and the emulator (on PC) is maybe 1-2MB, so not a lot I would guess.

The emulators and such may have to be alterd in some ways, cracking the 1.5 took some time so i dont believe they used the same exploit/way as for the 1.0 psp's.

Just a little updated:

PaWsTick from the PsP-Dev Team has now confirmed that their exploit does NOT run on v1.52 firmware. They haven't tested it on v1.51 yet, but rest assured we'll mirror a news update here with the results when they do. I'm glad I didn't update my firmware though beyond v1.50 just in case.

Have there been any psp firmware updates for the US since launch? I haven't connected to check myself yet..

Would you have had to connect to get 1.51? I mean, it isn't included on any of the games, is it?

at this moment, the only way to get 1.51 on US PSP is by going online. some new games are coming out later this month though, and i can bet they'll have mandatory firmware updates on them

anyone know if UMD movies are forcing updates?

Awesome. There's not really anything until GTA that I want to buy anyway. I guess I'll have to decide then whether I want to buy a new PSP for it andforsake any unsigned code abilities.

I hope they can find a way to never be locked out by firmware updates. I wouldn't want to have to choose between new games and emus.

For Sony's sake, I agree with you. I would choose emulators 99% of the time.

Well my roommate lost a bunch of dough gambling yesterday... so I just got a PSP + Tiger Woods :/ in exchange for some rent!

So I hope this works :)

Yeah, but that's software that was in-development and probably wasn't ready for use by the general public at the time. This is just exploit to run unsigned code. It's either works or not, and there's no reason why this cockteasing is necessary.

Do you guys really play emulators that often? I was all psyched about playing emulators on my Xbox, but I rarely play them. Granted the portability would be a nice new novelty, but I dunno if I would basically deny the entire PSP library post June 2005 just for emulators.

It would be funny if someone figures out how to run games off the memory stick, since Sony could end up forcing people to pirate games when they normally wouldn't.

Currently playing Dragon Warrior 4 NES on my NDS, portable emu is a whole new ball game.

TONS of games out there that I just don't feel are worthy of my increasingly limited 'console' time, but since I spend so much of each week commuting, portable emu would be brilliant.

I always wanted to play DW4, particularly after we got robbed of the PSOne remix here in the States. But the NES version was just too damn slow to sit there and play through these days, particularly considering how much the first 3 DWs were sped up when they were remade on the GBC.

But DW4 while watching tv, listening to music, or commuting on the train? Amazing.

Is it a GBA emu, or a specific DS one with better resolution than the GBA squish-o-vision? Is there any handy flash carts for the DS?

PSP 1.5 exploit sounds like bollocks, but I hope it's true. Portable emus are great.

I just turned on my PSP for the first time in over a month (the background was still green) to confirm that I indeed had the 1.50 firmware.

PLEASE let this be true so that my PSP might get used again!
