Official PSP 1.50 exploit thread (proper loader has arrived)

When I got my wireless router 3 weeks ago I actually tried to upgrade my system to 1.51 wirelessly to try it out. It connected, but refused to download anything. So here I am with a 1.50 PSP. Sony's inability to have good servers saved me :D

BTW: are any NES emu's doing ok yet?

I'm sorry, but heh you deserved to be laughed at. Why anyone who cares at all about running emulators on the PSP would upgrade after knowing the whole issue of how 1.5 users were screwed while 1.0 enjoyed the fruits of the explot is way beyond any reasonable comprehension.

To anyone else thinking of updating.....

NOBODY SHOULD UPDATE THEIR FIRMWARE AS THEY DO NOTHING BUT SCREW YOU RIGHT NOW!

People scared to buy new games because of possible stealth upgrading

People scared to upgrade their own PSP firmware

Haha, this is perfect.

Hope this is true, I might have to run out and get a PSP on day one

There's plenty of room left for optimization still. The current emulators pretty much only use the main processor, since reverse engineering of commercial game code has only just started. When we see some "hardware acceleration" being put to use there'll be a nice speed bump.

I wonder if the hacking of 1.50 (if it does turn out not to be fake) will encourage the development of non-emulator homebrew apps?

You mean like the PC ports of Beats of Rage, Quake, Doom, Doom 2, Tetris, chess, calculator, text reader etc.?

Calculator and text reader yes, but perhaps I should have been more specific.. I meant "non-game, non-emulator homebrew". As many people have already mentioned the PSP would make an excellent wardriving device if the software was there for it, and it would also be nice to see a non-Wipeout web browser.

self-ownage

oh so sweet

It's only ownage for people who were actually interested in/hoping to play emulators or homebrew games on their PSP. For those who are not that bothered about that sort of thing, it's not really a big deal. I upgraded to 1.51 because I wanted to test the wireless, and my PSP (despite being a Japanese unit) came with 1.50 preloaded anyway.

I had to reload and try a few times before it worked.

edit:
If it won't work, I can send it to someone who can host it. Or someone tell me where I can host it please.

try just uploading to yousendit again

So how exactly does this work?

Do you go into the mem stick menu and select the loader thing, then select an emulator or something?

Or is it just a one time thing then you load your Emu's from the mem stick menu?

This is how I would expect it to work, from looking at the screenshot, yeah.

download shamo42's video to see how it works

basically, the loader is a front end to launching homebrew programs. the loader searches for programs on your memory stick and you choose which program you want to load. so i guess this means all homebrew programs that work on 1.0 will work with 1.5 without having to modify the homebrew programs

the new video is much better quality and doesn't look fake this time

That's a very nice interim solution. I hope these guys also share the code with homebrew devs so that they can make their apps run natively with 1.5 PSPs.

SWEET MOTHER FUCKING LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my psp finally doesn't suck. yipee!!!!

can't wait to get some emu action going on it.

The emulators have to be specifically designed with the PSP in mind, but they'll work with any functional ROMs.

Is it confirmed that psp in stores are still 1.50?

the psp my sister got last week was 1.50. it was definitely one of the newer batches since the spiderman movie wasnt bundled

i dont know what you are talking about, this new video makes it look more believable. shows the firmware version, clear video, video doesnt shake at all...

Okay, watching it again I see they do show the version, must just have been a glitch with my Windows Media Player the first time around. However, I notice that the PSP logo doesn't fade out after they select the loader, the screen just goes black. Doesn't that indicate that it's really being run on a 1.0 PSP and they just edited in some shots of a 1.50 PSP at the start?

yeah, now that you've mentioned it there is no fade. i have no idea...that does make it a bit suspicious. the original video faded out though so who knows.
