Well, if anyone cares, it looks like Episode 6 brought back the 'disc scratching' technique used in Episode 1 for scene transitions. The series however is slowly killing my anticipation for the what happens next. I'm getting a little bit bored on how Fuu is always getting into danger and needs rescuing in almost every single episode. Hopefully the series starts picking up with something interesting.

i stopped after watching 3..unno,, monster and naruto are the only ones i feel its worth to watch.

I second this.

It's at 102 episodes right now, but when it's at 250 you'll be thinking "at that time it was only 102 episodes" and prolly forget about it for good. That's not good. :( you can download just the first batch and watch it little by little. 10 episdoes are not that big and if you get hooked on One Piece you'll be a better person. Really.

I haven't even seen episode five or six yet. Suprnova doesn't have the torrents. Can someone post them here or PM me with some links?

You can also read the OP manga in Shonen Jump. It's worthwhile.

Is this series good? Is it serious/funny like Cowboy Bebop, or just plain silly? Do it have a lot of typical anime staples, or does it feel fresh? I'm thinking of buying a DVD, but I'd like to catch an episode first, to see if I like it.

Fresh? One can say it's very cliche but the anime does it so good it rocks. You should definitely catch the first couple episodes at least to make up your mind. Only watching the first episode might lead to disappointment as it sets the bar too high.

Also, the first DVD won't be out until januray 2005. by then you can watch the whole series then decide of you want to add it to your collection. :p

Well, it's a bit early to tell exactly how the whole series is gonna play out, but it does feel "fresh" for the most part (in terms of style). Especially episode 1. They've sort of calmed it down a bit since then, but I personally would recommend episode 1 to just about anybody with even mild curiousity.

And the DVDs start coming out in January of next year. So it will be something of a wait.

I'm just saying... Samurai Champloo is a licenced anime and atleast one mod (Shouta) on this forum will ban you if you ask for the torrent file. Just thought you'd like to know. ;)

didnt like episode 4 too much, i thought episode 3 was very good but they couldnt keep up the quality. this series is getting sorta boring now.

Just watched #5...pretty much around the same quality as #2. Still watchable, but nothing particularly compelling is happening...which would be fine if the production values were in the same league as the first ep.

;(

On a more random note, I just saw the music video for Battlecry (the opening theme) on TV a few minutes ago. I should really watch episode 5.

Ep 6 hints that they're finally beginning to get into the real story. I like how some of you find Champloo boring but can sit through 20 episodes of Naruto having a flashback about a bird shitting on his head or something.

Tre: at least nbz is *consistently* mediocre. Champloo has an amazing first episode to lend to the disappointment factor.

Why can't some people get over the fact that they don't like Naruto? I've never seen a show where its haters make it known they hate it every possible time. yeesh... and those dbz comparisons..

( For the record I hate dbz. I watched it when I first got into anime but then moved on to adult swim and slowly started hating it. A few months ago I stumbled on dbz: gt on cartoon network and could not sit through 5 minutes of it. )

I'd love to see someone try to make a case on why Naruto is like dbz yeah they're both fighting anime but other then the flashbacks I don't see anything else. Flashbacks are in many other anime too and if you watched any naruto episode after 20 you'd know they cut back a lot on the flashbacks. Hell the last ten to twenty episodes all average around two chapters a pop I think.

And you have the characters. One can say Sasuke, the lone wolf who is the last of his people, and naruto the cheery always-hungry lead character are the same as vegeta and goku. But just about every anime has those characters. Luffy is always hungry and cheerfull. Vash is. And I don’t' know where to begin on the "last of his tribe" characters.

The most important difference is the fact that Naruto's characters are not as one-dimensioned as dbz's. They all have interesting backgrounds and hopes for the future. From Sasuke's revenge, to Naruto's history with the village, to neji's resolve to be free. Add to that the Akatsuki, orochimaru, etc.. They’re not just bad guys who want to "destroy the world" and they honestly freaking rock.

Let's look at the fighting in Naruto. dbz's consists of mostly kicks, punches, flying, and lighting balls. We wait two episodes for goku to power up to deliver a freaking lighting ball. Naruto's world is MUCH more interesting. Jutsus, taijutsu, and genjutuus make for AWESOME fights. Remember the Gaara/lee fight? And for manga readers how about the team fight in around chapter 210? Good stuff.

I've stopped reading the manga some time ago, but I do know the stuff that's happening in chapter 222 and where it's leading is something dbz would NEVER EVER come close to doing. Not a chance in hell. The future looks good for Naruto.

Just watched Episode 7 - been kind of sporadic with this one , but what i've seen so far i've enjoyed.

But yes - really liked Episode 7. Definitely making a point of recording this every week.
Love the style and the music.

Just watched episode 5. I actually really enjoyed that episode, though I think part of that lies in the fact that I just learned how to play Shogi in the last 2 weeks or so. :)

Is Shogi related to Go in any way?

Downloading 6, sweet.

Shogi I think is more like "japanese chess" with different pieces having different qualites. Go is a lot different and -- to me -- a lot harder then chess. Here's a nice tutorial on Go:

http://www.kiseido.com/ff.htm

btw all my info is from Hikaru no Go so I'm not an expert. :D

Yeah, I've tried casually learning Go, but it didn't stick. Maybe some other time.

Anyway, 6 was better. It definitely is leading towards some plot.

Nagasaki?

Shogi is like a more offensively minded chess. Pieces promote once they reach the last three rows of the board, and captured pieces can be placed anywhere back on the board in your favor, so long as you don't place into a checkmate scenario. Some pieces are quite similar to regular chess, but some are radically different (the dynamic of the silver and gold generals is rather interesting, actually). Oh, and there is no queen. The closest things to a queen would be the promoted rook and bishop.

It's a cool game, though.

MetatronM did you try Go in japan? Shogi is not that hard to learn if you know chess but Go is completely different. I made it a promise to myself that i will learn it before rewatching Hikaru no Go.. some day.

I hope things start to pick upin SC. I haven't seen a bad episode yet, but none have been particularly good either, with the exception of the first. I like the characters a lot, and it'd be a shame if the series was held back by its writing.

Caught up to episode 7 now. Thoughts.. this show is bad ass. Im not trying to compare it to Cowboy Bebop. To do that would be stupid being that its one of the greatest anime ever. But Samurai Champloo on its own without all the expectations is very good. Jin and Mugen's characters are gold and Fuu's starting to grow on me.

Episode 7 oddly enough seemed to have a plot that is a hell of a lot like episode 7 or 8 of Cowboy Bebop.
Where that kid gets himself into trouble while trying to find a cure for his blind sister. Then he finds a person who shows compassion towards him with Spike though it comes a little more forced than Fuu, for that one dude who's trying to save him mother.

Simple. Both animes have real bad pacing problems. DBZ having the worst. The slow snail ass pacing is unecessary. Strangly a lot of people love watching both.

pretty much. ANd I suspect most people don't want to see this devolve into one of those series that dicks around for the first half, then tries to shoehorn a 24 or 25 episode plot into 12 episodes. I sure as hell don't, as I'm really enjoying this show.

Blah, watching 7 now... looks like production values have dropped again. Decent ep, though still nothing spectacular. Oh well.

Cool, I'm definitely going to look into it.

Go is very math based. And by the way, there is also Go Moku, but I'm not sure what that's about.

i though ep 7 was great.
production value still looked good to me.

Maybe i'm just missing something...

i assume 8 was on last night, unless my PSX went fucking haywire, it should be recorded.

Will let you know how it is, um, much much later today (like midnight my time)

you mean you have the uber PSX? damn! things must be going well on you end ;)

and yeah post whether you like it or not..better yet! make a raw anf give it to me ;)

I kid.

I just watched 7 and I think it's ok, but knowing the 8 hasn't be subbed yet and that 9 aired kind of tick's me off :P

why can't people sub this like they sub naruto?

guess what? the PSX f*cked up and i didn't get eps 8.

It says it recorded Samurai Champloo, instead i have 30 odd minutes of f*cking WWE.

Cunting fucking wanking sony.
If the program moved, is it TOO fucking difficult to cross check recordings vs timetables like ANY OTHER HALF USEFUL TIVO-ESQUE UNIT??

what a bag of fucking shite - mind you , it could be that the thing just decided to record a different side altogether, that wouldn't be the first time.

grrr.

Yeah, it does. At seemingly random times and usually a few weeks behind the US.

I've had episode 7 for a while now, but haven't gotten around to watching it. Maybe I'll do so tonight.

Congratulations to the PSX which successfully managed to capture episode 9 this week.
Yippee....

anyways, i liked it (again)

seems that "scratching" style scene change is back.
Music throughtout was pretty cool too.

Oh hell yes. Is it as well executed as in Ep1? It's like they looked at Captain Scarlet's scene switching and thought "Hey, let's make that trendy".
