Just a friendly jab comrade :) I don't think the news was even 24 hours old when I posted it. I'm just glad I saw the news when I did, lest I miss out on the pre-sale for Cleveland that was earlier today :D

Also, a blog from Billy about the tour.

Those of you that may have seen either the press release or any info out there about the tour may find yourself scratching your head a bit about the shows format. We tried to keep it simple but as is our custom, its just not always that simple!! SO I thought I would post up some additional info to make sure that there was absolute clarity about what shows would be going on where-when.

First off, the 2 night format is about playing the most songs over 2 nights that would hopefully create very distinct shows from one another. No song will be repeated means exactly as it sounds, if you go to show #1 of a 2 night stand (black sunshine!), you wouldn't hear anything on night # 2 (white crosses) that you heard song-wise on the first night. The cities where we are playing only 1 show will feature an amalgamated show that will most likely have some songs we won't be playing in the 2 night format shows, but take from both the sunshine and the crosses show. Get it? I hope so...cause its a lot for us to digest as well.

Yeah, basically each show is going to be different and we can expect 41+ songs or something like that.

Also, apparently SP is going to start offering soundboard recordings for roughly $12 or so.

I'd love to catch one of these shows, but if they aren't coming to Pittsburgh, a. work schedule and b. price of gas would make it difficult. Even just going next door to Ohio. :(

So glad I saw them last year, otherwise I'd be crying right now. :lol

SP doesn't draw as big of a crowd as they used to in a lot of places, unfortunately.

I'd expect more dates to be announced, though...

Actually Billy has come out and said that the crowds in Europe are nice and receptive compared to the harsh, demanding crowds of the US (paraphrasing, of course) and they don't enjoy touring the US like they do other continents. So to see them sticking to major US cities instead of a drawn-out 3 month US tour isn't that surprising to me.

Also they said the shows for this tour are all in cities that were important/integral/memorable/etc during the early years of the band. So that could be part of it too.

This tour goes through Thanksgiving and into early December. Save for maybe a once or twice off Xmas/New Years gig these are most likely the last shows they'll play until 2009.

Got tickets for Jimmy Kimmel on the 24th and I will definitely try to attend at least one of the Gibson shows. I didn't get an email about this :/

Huh? Why do I always have to post everything?! :lol

Anyway, a short preview of the upcoming DVD:

http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_10598

Funny thing about that trailer is that it's spot on. I love the new stuff, but I get a lot of acquaintances and friends that just want Siamese Dream and nothing more. That's great and all, but I'll always have SD in my playlist. My favorite parts from the last show I saw here in Austin wasn't the old stuff, but the newer stuff. A sped up Zero was a nice treat, but the revamped Heavy Metal Machine was awesome. Needless to say, I'm stoked that that's going to be on the DVD.

Oh, and I second the need for a Texas show. Come to Austin, SP; screw the rest of the state.

For me, at last years show (Which was the first time I'd seen SP live, mind you) the worst songs were the singles that you could tell after 10 or more years Billy is just sick to death of playing. BWBW and Today stand out in my mind as the worst offenders. Even during the show I found myself thinking, "Okay, when's the next song? I'm as bored as you are Billy." Zero and 1979 were the exceptions to the rule and were genuine highlights, along with a couple Machina 2 songs I thought I would never, ever hear live. And Set the Ray to Jerry. Oh yeah :D Sure I could sit around and say, "Boy, I sure hope SP plays a Soma>Geek USA>Mayonaise melody and ends the show with Thru the Eyes of Ruby and encores The Aeroplane Flies High!" but really I just wish Billy would play the songs HE wants to play, rather than trying to cater to different segments of the audience/fanbase all the time. All these pretentions about who wants what and where and when, it just gets in the way of the music.

Sorry, tangential rambling. /rant

you have to cater to the fanbase at some point or you are playing to no one. i admit i'd rather hear marquis in spades over zero, but not everyone there knows all the songs and you HAVE to play the singles. you can't not play at least some of the singles.

i will say billy could use some tips from matt bellamy on how to rock it hardcore live, but then again billy is an old man now and we must accept that! still... go pumpkins!!

I agree with you there. But you don't have to play the same singles every night do you? Lord knows the Pumpkins have at LEAST a dozen singles. Mix it up a bit. There is NO reason for BWBW, Zero, Today, 1979 and Cherub Rock to ALL be played every single night. 33, Ava Adore, Perfect, and Stand Inside Your Love all get played about half as much as the SD/MCIS singles, and when they are they are in addition to those songs. So on any given night you're looking at 6 or more singles in the set. That is a LOT, especially for a band with as diverse a catalog as the Pumpkins. Their shows would be SO MUCH BETTER if 1/3rd of a set wasn't chewed up getting the bullet points out of the way.

Hopefully as months and tours wear on, the idea that Billy needs to play so many of the singles to re-establish SP as a band that is "still kicking", so to speak, will wear off.

Toronto Pre-sale at 10am

Buying tix for the first night as the 2nd night is the US election and as much as I love the Pumpkins, US election coverage is way more epic and entertaining these days

Hopefully they play Bullet the first night

And tix are 47-55 dollars Canadian, far less than I expected for Massey Hall

I agree! That is a great price for Massey Hall! They made a great choice coming to Toronto on this tour. We really love them.

I wish I knew more about each show though. I can only afford to go to one of them but have no idea which show I would prefer since I have no idea what is being played at each.

If there was a show that played mostly stuff from Adore then I want to go to that one! :D

>

Dammit, I have never had good luck getting good seats at that damn Amphitheater. Gotta wait till 10/4 to buy tho. Although I'm so going to the show at the Pearl.

Yeah, that's what I meant. People actually giving a shit about good music on a stage in the US is decreasing. It's sad. Other countries are different, though.

I am jealous of each and every single one of you attending these shows.

Nope ... still doing it.

I purposefully tried a single, and it DID go through ... but no fucking pairs are available :lol

I just said fuck it and ordered 3 seats for the Cleveland show. If I would have known this was going to happen, I would have tried to get better Cleveland seats. I'm in the balcony.

DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!

If anyone needs some tickets to the Cleveland show I've got an extra pair. On the floor, row MM. I might have yet ANOTHER pair, row FF, but I'm holding them for someone. If that someone doesn't want them of course I'll give them to whomever else wants them. PM if interested!

Any know what the concert setup is like at UC SD? I can't find any info on a concert venue...

Thinking about getting tickets since they are GA and there are still some left. Closer to me than LA and Sunday is easier to make for me than Tue or Wed.

I got my ticket for the Dec 3rd show at Gibson. Orchestra 8 row MM. I've never been there so I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

As if kicking off the tour in Cleveland wasn't enough, SP will now be playing a gig the night before on Halloween in Columbus. Two SP shows in two days? Be still my beating heart! :lol But seriously, this is going to be awesome.

PS I still have two pairs of floor tickets for the Cleveland show if anyone is looking for any PLEASE PM me. I won't hoodwink you, I swear!

pumpkins played GLOW live tonight at the scream awards on Spike. i like the riff in the song but i just dont like the song much, not sure what else i can say. its a bit better live than it is in studio but i just cant get into it.

the hilarious part is after SP was done playing the next presenter was the lead singer of my chemical romance, the dude who could easily pass as billy corgans son!

p.s. and they showed a new watchmen trailer (i think) which of course had TBITEITB playing. its an all pumpkins night!

God I love the Smashing Pumpkins. At least up until Zwan, every time I found an album, I would eventually fall in love with it. It took a while, I didn't get into Adore for a long time, but eventually realized how great it was.

Mellon Collie, with that piano intro...God, there are no words...

I learned to play that song on piano, its great :)

I just listened again to the pumpkins heavily yesterday for the first time in ages. I used to listen to mellon collie and siamese dream non stop when I was in high school, awesome albums. Haven't listened to Machina more than once and Zeitgeist more than twice tho :-/

I love some of their stuff on Pisces Iscariot and the bonus tracks on Aeroplane Flies High

some of my favourite live stuff... bwbw INSANE intro, easily the best live version

Mayonaise live from Vieuphoria. Easily my favourite pumpkins song, just the best..

I usually let Pumpkins albums spin for two weeks nonstop in my car just so I can adequately wrap myself around the new songs and sound. By that time, I'm all in. Point in case, I love Zeitgeist, especially when you add in the nonstandard tracks like Ma Belle and, the title track, Zeitgeist. Those tracks round out the album's sound more and give it a bit more range. Every now and then I just get an urge to crank Bring the Light.

Machina, despite what some Pumpkin fans say, is a great album, but it's definitely more of a wandering, layered, and generally toned down album. Tracks like Age of Innocence, Wound, and Try, Try, Try are great, great tracks. Of course, BC rendered Heavy Metal Machine unlistenable now after he reworked what was once a shallow, riff-based (but still enjoyable) track into an awesome, 10-minute rock opus.

As much as I shit on Machina....the lyric in This Time "Someday we'll wave hello and wish we never waved goodbye..." gets me.
