BC said:Those of you that may have seen either the press release or any info out there about the tour may find yourself scratching your head a bit about the shows format. We tried to keep it simple but as is our custom, its just not always that simple!! SO I thought I would post up some additional info to make sure that there was absolute clarity about what shows would be going on where-when.
First off, the 2 night format is about playing the most songs over 2 nights that would hopefully create very distinct shows from one another. No song will be repeated means exactly as it sounds, if you go to show #1 of a 2 night stand (black sunshine!), you wouldn't hear anything on night # 2 (white crosses) that you heard song-wise on the first night. The cities where we are playing only 1 show will feature an amalgamated show that will most likely have some songs we won't be playing in the 2 night format shows, but take from both the sunshine and the crosses show. Get it? I hope so...cause its a lot for us to digest as well.

I'd expect more dates to be announced, though...
Or nothing at all in Texas? :-(distantmantra said:No Seattle, Vancouver or Portland? What the fuck?

Anyway, a short preview of the upcoming DVD:

Macam said:Funny thing about that trailer is that it's spot on. I love the new stuff, but I get a lot of acquaintances and friends that just want Siamese Dream and nothing more. That's great and all, but I'll always have SD in my playlist. My favorite parts from the last show I saw here in Austin wasn't the old stuff, but the newer stuff. A sped up Zero was a nice treat, but the revamped Heavy Metal Machine was awesome. Needless to say, I'm stoked that that's going to be on the DVD.
Oh, and I second the need for a Texas show. Come to Austin, SP; screw the rest of the state.
FrenchMovieTheme said:you have to cater to the fanbase at some point or you are playing to no one. i admit i'd rather hear marquis in spades over zero, but not everyone there knows all the songs and you HAVE to play the singles. you can't not play at least some of the singles.

Yeah, that's what I meant. People actually giving a shit about good music on a stage in the US is decreasing. It's sad. Other countries are different, though.Orellio said:Actually Billy has come out and said that the crowds in Europe are nice and receptive compared to the harsh, demanding crowds of the US (paraphrasing, of course) and they don't enjoy touring the US like they do other continents.

Thinking about getting tickets since they are GA and there are still some left. Closer to me than LA and Sunday is easier to make for me than Tue or Wed.
Macam said:Watch the performance of Starla live from the DVD here. I haven't seen it yet, but it's already awesome just because it's Starla.

Mellon Collie, with that piano intro...God, there are no words...
I learned to play that song on piano, its greatbengraven said:God I love the Smashing Pumpkins. At least up until Zwan, every time I found an album, I would eventually fall in love with it. It took a while, I didn't get into Adore for a long time, but eventually realized how great it was.

FrenchMovieTheme said:pumpkins played GLOW live tonight at the scream awards on Spike. i like the riff in the song but i just dont like the song much, not sure what else i can say. its a bit better live than it is in studio but i just cant get into it.
the hilarious part is after SP was done playing the next presenter was the lead singer of my chemical romance, the dude who could easily pass as billy corgans son!
p.s. and they showed a new watchmen trailer (i think) which of course had TBITEITB playing. its an all pumpkins night!
santouras said:I just listened again to the pumpkins heavily yesterday for the first time in ages. I used to listen to mellon collie and siamese dream non stop when I was in high school, awesome albums. Haven't listened to Machina more than once and Zeitgeist more than twice tho :-/
Macam said:I usually let Pumpkins albums spin for two weeks nonstop in my car just so I can adequately wrap myself around the new songs and sound. By that time, I'm all in. Point in case, I love Zeitgeist, especially when you add in the nonstandard tracks like Ma Belle and, the title track, Zeitgeist. Those tracks round out the album's sound more and give it a bit more range. Every now and then I just get an urge to crank Bring the Light.
Machina, despite what some Pumpkin fans say, is a great album, but it's definitely more of a wandering, layered, and generally toned down album. Tracks like Age of Innocence, Wound, and Try, Try, Try are great, great tracks. Of course, BC rendered Heavy Metal Machine unlistenable now after he reworked what was once a shallow, riff-based (but still enjoyable) track into an awesome, 10-minute rock opus.
