I GOT THE DATES*****************!!!
Monday, July 7, 2008 - 3:40 pm - glassonglass
I got the dates from an INSIDE SOURCE...... wow
small venues i must say!
As stated previously, the band will be heading out into the United States for the first time in 2008 during August. This tour will be for fun and will consist of unique sets and songs. Expect this tour to visit mostly smaller-sized venues.
Whereas the August dates will be at smaller venues, the November 20th Anniversary shows will be at large venues. We can confirm the band will be playing in New York, Chicago, L.A. as well as additional cities that have yet to be announced. These shows will focus on the band's history, legacy, and accomplishments over their career.
The Gish era tour will be moved to early 2009 to make way for the 20th Anniversary shows this November. Discussions are still taking place regarding which cities will be played.
Billy Corgan had this to say about the current tour line-up for 2008:
"The August tour is going to be a blast... Expect a very loud and raucous show from us...and we are very, very happy to know we will finally be playing our own shows come November in New York, L.A., and Chicago... The 20th Anniversary shows will be magical... We are already working on lots of surprises"
August 08, 2008 - Adler Theatre - Davenport, IA
August 09, 2008 - The Venue - Hammond, IN
August 12, 2008 - Palace Theatre - Louisville, KY
August 13, 2008 - Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville, TN
August 15, 2008 - Ovens Auditorium - Charlotte, NC

Fuck yeah, orchestra tickets to the Pumpkins show in Louisville on the 12th.
I've been away for so long, ready to join the fold again.
Yes. When I saw them the setlist was all over the place... they played Drown, Tonight, Tonight, Set the Ray to Jerry (quite a surprise), Rocket, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Zero, Today, Cherub Rock, Ava Adore, 1979. The rest were Machina and Zeitgeist. But yes, they always make sure they throw in a bunch of older songs.GodfatherX said:always good to see a KY Gafer....
i might hit up that show, not a big fan of SP's new stuff just curious if they play a lot of their old songs as well?

G-Fex said:I hate myself for being so so very late to the party but I am. I liked their stuff before, but after signing up for itunes I finally got to listen to their other albums/songs. I'm very addicted to their works now. Hell even bought myself a zero shirt.
Orellio said:Welcome friend. What was the song that did it, out of curiosity?
Orellio said:Yeah 1979 did it for me. The End is the Beginning is the End is sweet, you should check out The Beginning is the End is the Beginning or just watch the Watchmen trailer.
Orellio said:Alright, I love this kind of shit:
Basically check out the rest of the singles from Siamese Dream: Cherub Rock (Haven't played many fake-plastic-guitar games lately huh?), Rocket and Disarm. Muzzle and Here Is No Why are both good rockers from Mellon Collie, along with Siva, Hello Kitty Kat, and Cash Car Star all from various other albums. Similar to style to TBITEITB is Eye which was a single around the same time but not on any of the albums. I'd also recommend Pug for a good electro sound. Then there's the "epics" like Thru the Eyes of Ruby, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, and Soma. Those 3 are definitely required listening IMO, and Ruby in particular after 1979 is probably the one song that most helped me become a fan of the band. And there's always the love songs/slow songs/ballads but I don't know if that would be your thing, but regardless some of the best of those would be: Mayonaise (Yeah, one n), Luna, To Sheila, and Blank Page. I could seriously just keep going and going as I haven't mentioned anything from at least 2 of their albums or bsides which there are dozens and dozens of, some better than a lot of stuff on some of the albums.
Really the greatest thing about SP is that they are so diverse you're bound to find a good chunk of songs you can dig no matter what your taste in music is.
Edit: I can't help myself. Thirty-three is a single from MCIS and might be right up your alley. Their covers of Alice Cooper's Clones (We're All), The Cars You're All I've Got Tonight, Blondie's Dreaming and Missing Person's Destination Unknown are all great. Set the Ray to Jerry, Cherry, and Pennies are a few of my favorite bsides.
So my wife and I went downtown Davenport just to hit a couple bars and walk around a bit in hopes that we may actually run into someone from the band. We were out of the car literally 1 minute walking down 2nd Street deciding where to go, when my wife looks across the street it says "Is that Billy"?? I looked over and actually recognized Jeff immediately. So we went across the street where they were probably a half block ahead of us. We were trailing them for an encounter when they walked into the Woodfire Grill.
So we went in and there stood Billy and Jeff waiting for the hostess. My wife opened with "Can we buy you dinner"?? Billy said that wasn't necessary. I asked if we could get a couple of pictures with them and told them that I didn't want to be rude and interupt their meal. So I thought it would be best if we could do it before they were seated and ordered their food. Billy said that would be fine and said we could talk a bit. Then the hostess came up and asked Billy how many were in his party. He said 4. I thought for a minute that he and Jeff must be expecting a couple of other people to dine with them. But Billy actually meant myself and my wife as the 3rd and 4th people. Billy wanted to sit outside, so the hostess started to lead us to our table and Billy said again "C'mon, we can talk for a bit".
So we're seated and the first thing Billy says is that he hates when people think they only have 60 seconds to say whatever they want and then have to move along. So there I sat at a table with just Billy, Jeff, and my wife. I was in complete disbelief. I was getting one on one time with Billy and Jeff. Several times I told him that I didn't want to intrude and disrupt their meal. We talked for a total of around 15 minutes before I let them be. Billy did most of the talking and I would simply add my 2 cents or ask him to explain further.
A few things that are newsworthy are that they WILL be playing GLOW as the 2nd song of the set (I couldn't believe he actually gave the setlist placement of the song). I asked about the release and he said it looks like Europe will get a physical release and the US will get a digital version (iTunes). He said he is currently fighting the record company on this, but it looks like that is what will happen. So it'll most likely be just like the American Gothic release. I asked if it was just the one song (GLOW), or if there would be other tracks and told me they had just had a conversation about this and he was not at liberty to disuss it. He said "they" told him not to talk about it.
For the most part, Billy talked about the current state of music and touring. He was telling me how over the course of history even huge acts like Frank Sinatra and Elvis eventually resorted to simply doing shows in Las Vegas. He said soon enough we will be seeing mainstream rock acts such as Motley Crue doing 1 month stands in Vegas. He was going on about how the tours were great when they were in Europe and then it was like hitting brick wall when they came back to the states. I asked how he meant... as far as ticket sales, the setlist they were playing??.... Him and Jeff at the same time said "both". He said they are not the only band out there having trouble selling out venues.
I started asking him about this tour and he was VERY excited to talk about it. He said it will be unlike ANYTHING they have ever done before (even the previous eras). He said it will TOTALLY rock and it will kick everyone's ass. He mentioned that they are working on 9 new songs that the band has never performed before in this incarnation of the band (I'm not sure if that includes GLOW). I figured those would be spread out across the 9 or 10 shows. You know, 2 or 3 songs this night, another 3 or 4 the next, and then kinda mix and match those songs across the tour for a total of 9 new songs. Billy informed me that they WILL be playing ALL 9 SONGS EACH NIGHT!! Now this next thing he told me, REALLY disappointed me. He said they will no longer be changing up the setlist night to night. It will be the same setlist every single night of the tour in the same order (much like the February / March 2008 Europe shows). At this point, I actually looked Billy dead in the eyes and told him "That's Bullshit"!! I must say, it was definitely interesting to sit directly across from Billy Corgan and say that what he was doing is Bullshit. I told him that for me, A LOT of the fun is wondering what songs they will play on any given night of the tour and it's WAY more fun when they throw something in there that they haven't been playing regularly on the tour. I mean CHRIST!! To not even change the order of the songs!?!? I told him I prefer (like most die hard fans) when they take 30 songs on tour with them and play 22 - 24 of those a night. Then there are always a few songs that you aren't sure if you'll hear or not, but always hope so... or even hope for something they haven't been playing at all on the tour. He said the days of changing the setlist night to night and kinda learning songs as the tour progresses are over.
Just before this, I asked him if they would give an extra 45 minutes in Hammond. And he just kinda looked at me like what do you mean?? I said, well tickets for Hammond are TWICE as much as any other date on the tour. And seeing as the show is so close to your hometown of Chicago... is there going to be a little "give the fans more for their money". Billy told me the casino's pay the band more money than any other venue, and they also charge a lot more per ticket. The band had no hand in those ticket prices. That's when he informed me it would be the same show across the tour. He tried to explain to me that they were getting a better crowd response that way, but I still told him that totally sucks!!
I told him part of the fun as a die hard is waking up the morning after they play a show (wherever they are in the world) and being able to find their setlist to see what they played the night before. It's just no fun for us REAL fans. And he actually agreed that it is short changing us die hards. Which by the way, he did say that if you're a die hard fan, you're REALLY going to enjoy this tour. About this time the waiter came up to ask what everyone wanted to drink and overheard us talking about casino's. The Rhythm City riverboat casino is just a couple blocks from us and the waiter says do you like to gamble?? (totally oblivious to the fact that it is Billy Corgan sitting there) Billy quips back, "I like to gamble with my life". Everyone at the table (Billy included) bursted out laughing at his comment.
Billy got on the James / D'arcy lawsuit a little bit with me. NOW THIS REALLY SUCKS!! He told me that due to the lawsuit, the Gish tour scheduled for early 2009 has been post-poned indefinitely!! Since the boxset may or may not come out (they currently don't know) there will be no tour. He said the whole point of the tour was to coincide with the release of the boxset. So basically tour for the boxset. Well, if there's no box set... there's no tour. He said the release may still come out, but it has DEFINITELY been pushed back due to this lawsuit.
I asked him about what eras those 9 songs come from for this tour (and how far back) and he said all the way back. And then I had a MonteLDS moment. I asked him if they go all the way back to 1988 and Billy looks and me and says.... "Now you're scaring me"!. I started laughing at that point (thinking about Monte). I didn't even mention a song title, tease, whatever. I simply mentioned 1988 to get that response.
I know my story might be a little long and not all in the correct order of conversation, but that's what I remember most at the moment. I keep thinking of extra little tid bits here and there. Myself and my wife keep jogging each other memories about certain things he said. So before we left, Jeff offered to take a picture of myself and my wife with Billy. Then my wife took a picture of me with Billy and Jeff. I felt like Jeff was totally left out of the conversation and told him "I absolutely fucking love what you're doing with the band. I think you're great"!! And Billy gave his re-assurance that Jeff was doing REALLY well. That's about all of my story for now. I'll upload the photos sometime soon.

Orellio said:LOL I fucking called it. When it was announced like last year, I KNEW the era shows would never go down.
Tyrone Slothrop said:same here. i think it was one or two pages back in this thread i noted how most of the cool shit billy proposes never pans out.
You can thank Virgin Records for this not being out yet. The whole thing is a mess; should the full details ever be put out there, I'm pretty confident we'd easily see why Billy gave up on this one.Orellio said:Metro DVD of the "last" show
Billy's solo gig was a flop, and it would be kind of senseless to release it now -- however, his label was pretty shitty to him about the solo thing, and I'm sure they made it very clear that they did not want this released.DVD of Billy's solo show from 2004
Zwan crashed and burned. Understandable that this won't ever come out, as good as some of the non-album songs were.Djali Zwan CD and DVD
There's still a good chance this could come out. I think they put more emphasis on the Gish boxset, but now that it's being pushed back indefinitely, you'll probably see this released within the next year or so. I'm pretty sure it's still on track to be released.DVD of the Fillmore residencies from last year (Not officially cancelled, but there's no way this is coming out)

I also have seen Lisa and Ginger. It was Ginger and her new hubby
So i am here in davenport. and billy came up smiled and talked to me. he laughed about talking to me because he said anything you say to you will be in quotes
I gave him copies of my July 15th and 31st DVD. He thought the cover was really cool (good job GDS)
So he told me the following thing
The Fillmore DVD will be 3 discs and there will be a HD (blu-ray) release.
the dvd was done a few weeks ago and that the whole thing is going be very interesting.
The DVD / BLU-RAY will have the following songs from the July 31st show
The rose march, (he might of said peace and love), 99 Floors, Starla, Gossamer
He talked about the release of G.L.O.W. and how it will be hard to release it on CD here in the US. But said it wasn't set in stone that G.L.O.W. will only be an import
I then asked Davin question of what does it sound like. Billy laughed and said i'll tell you a lie. its going be an hour long song of me whinnying about things to 1 synth.
He talked a lot about the music business and owning the rights to recordings. and how Landslide was recorded on a used tape and as long as that song makes money the BBC makes money
He wanted to record something here in the Davenport / Rock Island area but there was an issue of "ownership". The release was going be for free, but at 41 he won't be able to just give ownership away. The recording place would have ownership.
Ends up Billy thinks Redding was the BEST superchrist.
He asked if i was going stick around and listen thru the cracks in the wall. I told him You know it! he laughed. And i said I got to know if you will play bullet. And he said laughing "ya, for the 450th time"
o ya he he just went to the antique store just a few mins ago
hahaha i just recalled Billy said he just bought a Dodge Charger and then once again confirmed that Linda Strawberry bf did do the editing for the DVD
i keep recalling stuff.. and yes its about the record companies
he said that the record companies are now taking money from sales @ the concerts such as t-shirts and posters.
He said they have not found a record company they have wanted to work with yet.
Jimmy just showed up! All of these guys have Blackberry Curves
Billy said that it was impossible to find glass bottle water in Iowa.
he bought a new hat. picture coming soon.
I just saw Jeff leave with billy. and now the rest of the band is taking off.
an insider told me they sound checked gossamer. the band is really happy!
more insider info: SP fans who want to hear "Today" are supposedly going be scared at this show
Another insider info: smashing pumpkins Pastichio Melody (listen to it, and you might hear a riff used in G.L.O.W.)
**NOTE** after hearing G.L.O.W. myself i would say this person is most likely wrong
Diablos said:Yeah, it's coming. More news:
Well, Pistachio Medley is basically demos Billy never finished, so it really isn't cheap that he is finally putting them into full-length songs.FrenchMovieTheme said:there are similar riffs to glow in pistachio medley (and bass lines as well)
but who cares, it rocks!
Awesome.PotatoeMasher said:Just got back from Louisville show. Good stuff--the band seemed to enjoy themselves quite a bit. Same setlist as the first two shows on the tour. Was hoping for a second encore after Billy dragged out one of the guys from ZZ Top (he must've been hanging out with them backstage) but he just waved and went offstage.
Only downer--not a big fan of the "new" HMM--it's sort of the same song with all of the melody taken out. Favorites were Eye, Transformer, TBITEITB, United States, Siva and We Only Come Out at Night. Performance spoiler:The kazoo/accordian work on We Only Come Out at Night/In the Summertime was a great way to end the show.

Features Full Concert in High Definition and Revealing Documentary
If All Goes Wrong cover art by Linda Strawberry.
Coming Home Media will release If All Goes Wrong, a double DVD commemorative package celebrating the recent reunion and extraordinary 20-year career of The Smashing Pumpkins, one of rock's defining and most acclaimed bands, on Nov. 11th.
Directed and produced by Jack Gulick (Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Steve Miller Band, Godsmack) and Daniel E Catullo III (Steve Miller Band, Godsmack, Rush, Dave Matthews Band), the two DVD set contains the 105-minute documentary, also titled If All Goes Wrong, plus The Fillmore Residency, a full concert filmed in late July and early August of 2007 over five of the 11 sold-out nights at the famed Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, CA.
The concert disc was captured in 5.1 Surround Sound and state-of-the-art high definition from 12 cameras and features seven all new tracks not available anywhere else, along with new versions of fan favorites and a selection of Pumpkins rarities.
From the opening note to the final chord, the documentary If All Goes Wrong showcases a band returning with an "enveloping epic force" (Los Angeles Times) as it traces The Smashing Pumpkins during their 19-show residency, which began with eight shows at Asheville, NC's Orange Peel in late June and continued through 11 sold-out nights at San Francisco's famed Fillmore Auditorium. Interviews with band members, fans, journalists and fellow musicians reveal the fears, excitement, determination, exhaustion and tension inherent in main singer-songwriter and lead guitarist Billy Corgan and his newly revitalized musical unit.
"We went into the residencies hopeful to play some new music, with the idea I would write during the day and we could maybe even play new songs that same night," Corgan comments. "What I didn't anticipate is how much the process would inspire me, positively and negatively, to report what I was seeing and feeling from the shows. The documentary shows that process in an interesting way that reveals the link between the band and our audience."
The documentary also includes Voices Of The Ghost Children, a featurette about the band's fans, and an interview with The Who's legendary guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend as bonus material.
The concert portion of the If All Goes Wrong, entitled The Fillmore Residency, runs 115 minutes and includes seven of the almost 20 all-new compositions the band composed and performed exclusively during the residencies that are available exclusively on this release. With 15 songs in all, the concert - captured in 5.1 Surround Sound and state-of-the-art high definition from 12 cameras - showcases the band as they explore the freedom afforded to them in a live setting, including the 30+ minute opus "Gossamer". Along with the new tracks, the concert also includes alternate versions of fan favorites and a selection of Pumpkins rarities. The Fillmore Residency also includes five songs recorded live from the floor of The Fillmore that gives fans an intimate glimpse of the band as a performing entity.
