It was a little faster actually. I really should reserve judgement until the full release, but most of my reservations were focused on the graphic quality, which juding from the demo, is not as nice as SC2.

Gameplay wise, the new green chick was nothing spectacular and Mitsurugi was either missing some of of his cool moves (like the ones involving his scabbard), or they just changed the way it worked.

Also, attacks LAUNCH you into the goddamned air.

Guard impacts require more precision to time (which is a good thing, IMO)

Wait and see...
 
Namco should release Soul Calibur EXTREME on 360.

Word. I hope the exclusivity for PS2 SC3 is only somehting like 6 months. I would love to see this on 360.
 
Why is there an official thread 6 days before the majority of us have the full game? Is thread exclusivity that big of an ego stroke that this is necessary? Don't get me wrong. I'm buying this on day 1, but come on... 6 days of speculation/fanboyish fervor?

Well, this is really nothing in comparision to a 500+ post official thread pre-release like Shadow of the Collossus.

Ivy's new art also makes her look kinda dyke-ish.

She's had a carpet munch theme all along IMO.

Good point. I should post my "Official official PS3 first impressions thread" right now before someone beats me to it...
 
Well here's a fun fact, supposedly none of the characters are swaps. So Nightmare and Sigfried have completely different movesets. I'd wager they'll all be about as different as Yoshimitsu and Mitsurugi if not more so. That alone is enough to shut up all the kids that are saying it's rehash cause characters are all that really matter in fighters and this takes the roster of SC2 and blow it away. Not to mention the create a character, conquest rts single player, more in depth story mode with branching paths, and various other tourney and minigame modes. Not to mention the most important thing about a fighter is that they've added tons of balance to tone down abused moves, and make or change crappy moves into something useful. For all the mindgames if they are even marginally successful then this won't just be a quick cash in but a full blown sequel in all the ways that matter and then some. This game will own!

Sounds sweet. The devs did say because they aren't trying to make it for 3 different systems, they got a lot more time devoted to the game's mechanics and with looking how packed the game is, it certainly shows.
 
Day one purchase for me. This game looks to be the spiritual successor to the original Soul Edge complete with all the axed story and gameplay aspects that never made it into Soul Calibur 1 and 2. The only thing now is if we can finally get the ability to knock weapons out of the other characters hands back. Well, that and the Critical Edge combos.
 
I'll tell you what man they've really come through from what I can see in the demo. Although I'm pissed about Kilik losing his Tribute stance because I was one of the only one who used the autoparry correctly for high level play as a reactionary gaurenteed move but this new stance has potential too. Other than that I'm pretty jazzed about all the improvements, especially Mistu's stance flow is now like Nightmare and Ivy's so transitions are accomplished by holds instead of touchy forward and back directional taps. Also his ->->BB is 25% damage and second hit can be combo confirmed. Still I won't bore you nubs with technical dorky talk, but this game will be awesome for all who have people to truly appreciate it with.

I think the ability to break weapons was lame and it's a better game without that. I mean in the Soul Blade since it was so old the generic punches and kicks weren't a big deal but they would just look dated by today's standards unless they made everyone into a full blown Tekken character. Critical Edge combos are retarded dude, canned and lame, make your own combos and flow through it yourself chump.
 
The only real question left is whether or not the game includes japanese voices like SC2. If not, I'm probably going to cancel the pre-order. My entire purchase rests on this option.
 
Well obviously they would have to give more movesets to the characters when they don't have their weapons and make the Critical Edge moves a bit more fluid, comboable into other moves instead of having such a long startup time. To just give us the same thing they gave us way back when isn't going to work. Also, with Guard Impact and other parrying moves, the block meter for your weapons can be turned into a nice, deep gameplay aspect. It will basically limit turtlers who I freakin' hate.

They already have Guard Crush, Guard Cancels, and Soul Charge unblockables and large arsenal of moves where you can mix it up and catch any turtler off guard if you know what you're doing. Still there's very little turtling in Soul Calibur anyways, people stay safe but you can create your openings. Link actually was one of the best characters cause he has some wicked fucking fakeouts that could bait people. Hopefully Cassandra inherited some of his better moves but I felt like they nailed him and it sucks that they couldn't expand on him or Spawn cause they both had potentail and another installment could have made them a lot better. Same goes for Raph, Talim, and Yun Sung, but I don't really care for Tira or Salsaman who you can play in the demo. Salsa got Raph's B throw and Kiliks <-<-B which pisses me off cause those were both good moves.
 
I can't wait for this. I was a little bummed out that the demo didn't seem to have a plain vanilla arcade mode though, anyone know if there is one in there? The story mode with 1 round battles won't do.

Owl guy (Olcadan) is listed as using all weapons and all styles, so it appears he is like Edge Master and Charade, randomly changing moveset each round.

Sweet. I always detested using Charade because he looked hideous, but how can I resist the charms of owl-guy?
 
Great intro, but I still think the Soul Edge intro is the best. :) What is the deal with the new girl with the giant ring-like weapon? She looks out of place in the intro movie for some reason.

Just placed an order for this, RE4, and GTA PSP...hope it won't take too long to get to me. I'm far more psyched for Soul Calibur 3 than I am for Dead Or Alive 4 on the Xbox 360.
 
Yeah great intro but still not as good as Soul Edge.

Tira's smile is perfect when she goes in for the attack. :)

Can't wait for this...my arcade stick awaits.
 
So what do you guys think will happen six months from now? An arcade version with some extra features, and later on an upgrade with some new characters followed by a next-gen console release?
