Official Virtua Fighter 5 Thread

My order has finally moved so its due tommorow and stick Friday so to prepare myself Ive put my PS2 back up (first time since getting my 46" Sony X) and started doing VF4 evo training for first time on my USA copy (I had the JPN one but I picked up the USA cheap this week) and graphics are still great on this. Training mode I forgot how nuts and in depth it all is. Not bad deal for what worked out at £6 for the USA version :lol

Can anyone tell us what the button layout is for the arcade machine and sticks. Is it G,P,K ? but in a angle of you would use on a 6 button bottom left then top left then middle top row ie

P K
G

Just that I want it setting up right and my dads gone and shoved all my spare consoles etc.. in the loft and my VF4 evo stick is up their and my memorys forgotton :lol

That's how the 3 button VF4 stick is so that's what I assume is the official position. Thumb+Index Finger+Middle Finger.

Yeah, it's GPK in that order for the arcade, but the buttons are slightly angled. When I use my (worn out, and teeny) arcade stick it's G (left bottom), P (middle top), K (right top).

look at the size of it compared to my DOA4 stick. Someone from Japan shared their Tekken 5 with me, so I'll play that until next week. Had I know I would have gotten the stick so soon from Hong Kong, I would have bought VF5 with it. Imported it from Play-Asia

How is the build quality of the Hori? Is it heavy? I don't like the feel of big joysticks that feel hollow inside. Also, how stiff is the stick?

The sticks in the HRAP3, which are Sanwa, are not stiff at all. However, you can make them stiffer by taking the joystick apart and stretching the spring inside by a small amount. :)

the HRAP3 sticks are really nice and loose... and the weight is pretty good too. It's fairly heavy so it won't move around a lot. I wish the footprint was a little smaller though.

I wish I could go to Evo for VF5, but I'm assuming that I'd have to go to a qualifer and they don't have Evo Japan yet. :(

Got this yesterday im some what of a vf newbie but damn the pad is rubbish trying to do elblaze roll with the pad is nothing short of a nightmare i can see me buying a stick at this rate.

That's great that the stick is loose. I have a harder time pulling off moves with stiff joysticks. The HRAP3 does look a little bigger than it should be. I think it's as big as the MAS joystick that I had for the DC/PS2. I like heavy joysticks but I don't want them to be too big to fit on my lap. The MAS was a too bulky to play on the lap for long.

You're in luck! You don't have to attend a qualifier to go to EVO world finals!

I wonder if any Japanese players will be coming over? There is a LOT of money at stake!

I wish there was more positive feedback for this game using the SIXAIS. I simply cannot justify buying an arcade stick for this game with so many other great games coming out right now (F1, Crackdown, Motorstorm).

Yep, pretty much.

I try to avoid controllers at all costs with fighters. Just like wheels and racers.

Oooh baby its christmas :lol

Checked my orders last night Play Asia Hori pro 3 check enters UK stanstead airport 2am (bout 400miles away from me give or take) due to arrive Friday 6pm with Fedex (sent Tuesday hk time). NCSX order finally moves since Monday 5th and due to arrive this morning with postie and black book was sent Monday from JPN ebayer.

Get up at 12pm and no parcel and throw a wobbly :lol Doorbell goes 2pm today big blumming box from Fedex, cant believe it Hori Pro 3 arrives from Playasia a day early and a week earlier than it took for VF5 to arrive from NCSX. Start getting even more annoyed as no game. Give up and start typing some emails (and ranting) 2.30pm parcel farce arrives with my VF5 and another parcel my black book already from JPN. Now 2.55pm I go to close the curtains and dig the camera out and go back into hybernation :D :lol

Edit mine (as taking pics as opening) my NCSX order is missing Vf10th so got to get them to reply to my 4th email now! Im just glad VF5 was in the blumming box.

Just to add the Hori stick is huge nearly 2/3 bigger than the SC2 and VF4 evo sticks. Beautifull made and really glad I bought it now instead of waiting for the VF official stick. It feels very well made and the stick itself is lovely and loose and nice and clicky response and buttons great feel to them :)

Still going thru my black book dvd though :lol :D

Bah I need some help here! :(

I put VF4 in my PS2 as I'm really looking forward to VF5, but never really got into it. Perhaps it's because I'm more of a Tekken player but hey. The fighting system seems really interesting, so I'm going through some training modes with Akira, but...

Doppo Choushitsu: K+G (release G after 1 frame)

I can't pull this one of! What am I supposed to do or what is the key to success? I'm not getting it yet. :(

Thanks.

I ran into the same problem in VF5 with Akira.
The game is 60fps, so I guess "release G after 1 frame" means release after 1/60th of a second. Surely that's impossible!

Not impossible, but it is considered the one of the hardest moves to pull off in the game.
I played Evo for a looonnnggg time and I was never able to do it.

Then again I'm a Lion player like my idol Chibita so eh.

It's seriously one of the most ridiclous to pull off moves with any character in any version of VF. Not impossible, but not even worth the insane effort.

I think the game plays great with the Sixaxis as VF4 did with the DualShock, but then again, I've been playing VF exclusively with a pad since VF1 Saturn. I have no problems with the complicated multiple rolls and things. It helps once the d-pad is broken in more.

Thanks, Jim! I am going to Gamefly it to be sure, but I am hopeful now.

Having just noticed via Shoryuken that HRAP3 does not work with PS2 games via BC I am in a bit of quandry.

What route can/should I go for high quality arcade stick action that will work with PS2 BC?

So whats the word on the High Grade sticks now? Fixed?

What was wrong with them again? Unresponsive buttons?

Did Play-Asia comment at all on the recall?

I prefer VF4 Pai anyway, holy hell she was stacked.

It's from a promo video in VF.TV mode. All the chicks make an appearance.

Anyone ever notice that throwing characters into the water actually gets them wet in this game? It's not easy to notice on certain costumes but for example, Akira's white gi will turn grey and start showing that plasticy reflective effect. Pretty cool.

Yeah, as a Kage player that was one of the first things I noticed since his blue outfit gets soaking wet dark blue :)

I don't know of plain VF4 has it, but in Evo's training mode you can set the command information to Type B. It should tell you how long you're pressing the buttons. Check what the demonstration's input looks like and compare it to what your attempt looks like.

Nothing new with Play-Asia. If you had an order they put you on hold until its fixed. You have the option of cancelling.

Hehe maybe we will see Sarah do the ping pong ball special move with those pantie shots with a won orb in revision C :lol

I cannot get over the black book dvd. Watched 2hours already and its only the first round. The fights are incredible and well worth buying just for that. Does anyone know whats different about the previous white book if its the same dvd or a different one?

I'm just glad they made Aoi hot.

Sexy accent + exposed midriff = WIN!

Overall it's a good thing that with VF5 the team is making the women more visually appealing without going to the lengths of the ridiculousness of the DoA series.

It seems like Virtua Fighter has slowly been getting more and more perverted with each new installment. Used to be the game was a lot "classier" with the female characters all fully dressed and what not, not they're all more exposed and bouncy. The first time I saw VF5 in the arcade, there was a guy playing as Sarah, and the upskirt stuff was the first thing I noticed. :lol This gives me a good ring name idea for Sarah now, come to think of it...

The White Book has data that's based on VF5 Version A and also doesn't have any frame data in it. The DVD with the White Book also has matches on it but it's not that good considering the game was still new. The Eileen and El Blaze players were especially bad because everyone was still learning them... but it seems that people have come to grips with how they work now.

Speaking of characters, Sega released character usage ranks for their Kakutou Shinseiki IV tournament.

http://am.sega.jp/utop/news/vf5_kaku4/first_l_data.html

* Most popular: Jacky (60), Kage (57), Pai (52)
* Popular: Akira (43), Lei Fei (39), Shun (38), Lau (37), Eileen (32)
* Somewhat popular: Vanessa (27), Wolf (25), Lion (24), Aoi (23), El Blaze (21)
* Not popular: Sarah (19), Jeffry (19), Goh (16), Brad (13)

The top three make a lot of sense when you consider the standard format of Japanese tournaments. Everything is single match, single elimination, so characters that can deal out a lot of damage with very little thinking (hello Jacky and Kage!) are being used the most, but the characters that have to really work for their damage (Aoi, Sarah) aren't being used as much.

Besides the breast size and physics, is there really anything wrong with the DoA girls? :P

Aoi ftw!

Aoi ftw!

I'd back Aoi any day of the week - getting the throws and reversals right is so difficult but oh-so-satisfying. When I'm tired of Aoi I go to Pai for her quick hits and combos, or Vanessa's tactical stances/switches. I really should try one of the male characters ;p

in regards to Sarah's pantie shots... how many characters have removable clothing items?

like you got Sarah's Skirt from her B costume appears to be removable and Akiara's A costume top piece of his GI

if Wolf's D costume can get rid of that coat.. he would be the baddest

Cheers m8, I would have only ordered it for the dvd so guess I will wait for the next one (Im still watching it and yet to put the game on must have spent nearly 3hours now!)

I know someone did a ranking match earlier on in this thread where Shun and Pai where top. I think it is one of those games that you cannot say any one character is best though, I like certain types of characters and I seem to be heading towards the faster and more showy ones now (ie Pai, El Blaze) Im not a fan of less stringent moves for sets and I am not a fan of Akira no matter how hard (I used to use him up to VF4 evo) I try but I know everyones different and some peeps love the grapplers. I guess it comes down to do you like hard hitters/speed/throw & defence or stance based players

I started out wtih Jacky as he is easy to get to grips with on VF4 evo but I can see me using Lei Fei just to make it a harder start and Pai and probably Shun and El Blaze after that (im not going to be off it this year I think).
