Official Virtua Fighter 5 Thread

Just got this today, having a ton of fun so far. Using Eileen in Quest mode, seems pretty easy so far (I'm 30-4 (1st Dan and I'm terrible). Trying to slowly learn some of the moves, the game looks great.

How do you open up the alternate costumes?

EDIT: I didn't even notice I guess I opened a costume up at first dan.

How do you open up the alternate costumes?

Costume C gets awarded when you rach 1st Dan rank

Costume D gets awarded when you fill up you ORBS wheel (after getting 1st Dan, it gets easierr getting Orbs)

so far I unlocked costumes C and D for Shun, Akira, and Lau

buy man, getting Gold is pain

whats the best way of getting Gold?

Thanks, yeah, I'm not getting any gold at all, I've basically had 1500 the whole time. I remember Milky saying on 1up yours you basically have to lose to win a lot of gold.

You have to lose after going on a big winning streak.

What's the best way to beat someone who is blocking? I keep having this problem in arcade mode where someone will just block the entire time and eat me when I try and block some of their moves. What penetrates defense or how should I avoid it?

I'm playing Jacky.

I checked out 1080p by turning off 720p/1080p in the dashboard. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an improvement in image quality unlike GT:HD or RR7. However, unlike some of the other posters, I didn't find 1080P to look worse than 720p. I still switched it back to 720p since several of the posters have found the game to look better at 720p.

What's up with the stupid "HD Data" questions whenever the game is started? Is there a way to turn them off?

Holy crap, srider, I'm reading your guide and it's explained so simply and yet I just don't get it. :lol

I can understand a lot of it...but Fuzzy Guarding I'm not sure on.

Whats up fine fellas.
Just got the game Im really impressed by the graphics simply mind blowing. That level with the waterfalls is just insane. Im using Akira right now who im sure is pretty typical. Awesome game but I got to get some sticks for it.

* Akira Yuki - Advanced
* Aoi Umenokouji - Intermediate
* Brad Burns - Intermediate
* Dural - ???
* Goh Hinogami - Advanced
* Jacky Bryant - Beginner
* Jeffry McWild - Intermediate
* Kage-Maru - Intermediate
* Lau Chan - Intermediate
* Lei-Fei - Beginner
* Lion Rafale - Intermediate
* Pai Chan - Beginner
* Sarah Bryant - Beginner
* Shun Di - Advanced
* Vanessa Lewis - Advanced
* Wolf Hawkfield - Advanced
* Eileen - Beginner
* El Blaze - Beginner

EDIT: I popped in VF4, and I had a few mistakes. Sorry, my memory kind of sucks. I corrected everything though. :)

only 2 Advanced? hrm, i really woulda thought Lei Fei woulda been advanced, didnt think Kage woulda been intermediate either

well 2 Intermediate and 1 Beginner for me then, Kage and Wolf (gogo ! ) and now El Blaze.

I'm sure this has been covered, but any story behind the AI player MajinJekku whose tag is "I Love GAF"

Also saw Futa-Kun the Gaming-Age player which was pretty funny.

I'm playing Jacky.

Throws (P + G moves), of course.

At heart, this game is rock scissors paper.

Blocks overcome strikes

Strikes overcome throws

Throws oversome blocks

ive only done about 60-some matches (59 wins, 1 lose, I hate you Pai) with Jacky in quest mode, getting money takes so long, but im so close to finishing my custom Jacky, only 10000 more, I thought going to an advanced arcade would really get you tons of money really fast, I guess not.

thanks Srider for those movies, they are pretty useful to encourage me of avoiding getting into my bad exhibitionist habits

yup, i said it, i fight with bad exhibitionist habits

The cloth simluation in this game is pretty damn nice - I just unlocked Sarah's D outfit and was pretty mesmerized by how well it flowed :lol

Yeah and im truly loving it I was a tekken guy before this but I cant believe I missed out on VF the depth is amazing. I just assumed Akira was the most basic because he looks the closest to ryu or Jin Kazuma and so on...

Spent about two hours with VF5 today and I have come away with two conclusions:

1. I am hooked.
2. I am now thinking of saving up for the High Grade stick (once the bugs are confirmed to be worked out)

Has anyone heard anything about the Sega High Grade stick becoming available soon here in the US?

I think that last week, they were saying it would be a few weeks.

Can I just reiterate how ****ing stupid it is that you have to LOSE to get any money in this game? Unless a miracle happens and you get (a shit amount) from an item battle or tournament (which usually just give you a shitty emblem).

Meh.

Also, what rank is after Master? I just hit Master and my exp bar is completely empty, and beating other Masters and different ranks is giving me nothing. I know there are others, because I've seen Veterans, Gladiators, and Paladins at the very least.

It was also weird because when I was 10th dan... a single fight vs. a Master (with a shitty record... I've seen people at 2nd dan with records that blew it away totally) COMPLETLEY filled my entire exp bar.

seems like tournaments with cash prizes become more common as your rank goes up -- my akira has had quite a few 10k and 15k prizes recently, and i've got just about everything i want from the shop.

edit: you have to beat 10th dans to rank up from master -- and if you lose to a 10th dan, your rank drops.

It's not stupid to lose a match to get money, because that's how the arcade version works. Get over it dude. The records mean nothing in Quest mode so why exactly are you complaining? Lose a match and cash out.

and the 10th Dan vs Master fights all work like that. It's also in the arcade version, and makes things more interesting. A 10th Dan needs only one match against a Master to level up to Master, but the Master has to defeat five 10th Dans in a row to get to the next level. It's pretty exciting to see in the arcades.

Just because it works that way in the arcade doesn't make it a good idea! Anyway, how many wins in a row do you need to make a substantial amount of money? And does it matter what level of opponents your wins (and eventual loss) come against?

Also, I did just fight and beat a 10th Dan... and yea, my exp bar went up a ton. I guess whenever I get a new rank I'll just come ask how it works because it will save me a lot of time.

I'm ranked Veteran right now... I went from Master > Warrior > Veteran...

Anyone get beat up by my AI character yet?

MarkManSDT
Veteran
Lion

^_^

He's coming for you!

No, but I probably will if I ever fight him. For whatever reason, Lion is like the toughest guy for me to beat. I hate him. Well, him and Akira (Aoi is annoying too, plus the fact I fight her every other fight for some stupid reason).

I just hit Warrior. What ranks did you fight to get Veteran?

Also... is it possible to switch the hand/side that items are equipped to? I got the green light bracelet for reaching Warrior... but it goes on Brad's left hand... which on the first player side is away from the screen and you barely ever see it :/

You can't switch it....

just play on the 2P side if you really wanna see it that badly. :P

I'm less effective on the 2P side! (not really, actually, but I tend to be in most games...)

Also, what to fight to rank up from Warrior? So far the only rank that has given me anything is 10th dan, but it barely gave me anything at all and I figure there is something better.

Haven't checked yet, but the voice actor for Vanessa Lewis sounds like the voice actor for Reiko from Rumble Roses. Is there a list of voice actors for the game?

IIRC Warrior is one rank above Master... so fight Masters. :P

And if you're weaker on 2P side, you ought to play on that side more often to get accustomed to it. With Akira I was totally lost on 2P side because I can do just about any combo at will on 1P, but doing anything on 2P kind of screwed me over, so I just play on 2P side to get used to it.

Masters give me nothing :p It probably take 30 wins against masters to level up. Veterans also give some exp, but from what I can tell, about the same as masters. Maybe this is just a REALLY slow rank, but there has to be something out there that gives more.

Akira is a bitch. He does everything well and can take off 80+ of your life with an air juggle :(

i got my Shun up to Master
while my Wolf, Jeffry, Akira and Lau are at mid-late Dans and I got Eilleen up th 4th Dan

the reason why I started up so many characters in Quest is because I wanted to unlock costume C and D for my most played character.

Eileen is such a joy to play, I love that character she's open the improvisation and such, I will have to check up on VFDC for combos

as for El Blaze: I love his throws, but I don't like his Punches and Kicks. I find it too weird when a "grappler" character has too many PPPKs going on, I wish he would have less strings though
