Did Sega make a mistake and give the US a better cover?

Now will there be any pre-order bonuses for the NA version?
Ugh, I much prefer the JP cover. One word comes to mind, busy. Looks way too busy. Another word comes to mind, bad. Who drew El Blaze. He looks awful there. Then again, maybe I'm just prejudiced b/c I tend to view JP covers as better by default. PEACE.

Any pics of the cabs by any chance?
vf5cabinet.jpg

That's my fiancee get her ass handed by CPU Akira. XD That was in the Taito arcade in Akihabara. The VF5 cabinets are usually set up for 4 players each with an individual screen and a 5th cabinet that displays VF5 TV which you get your cards from.

Speaking of which, I hear they are getting a cab in LA, but no word on one anywhere in the bay area.. I know the Metreon arcade isnt getting one, but not sure about the Golflands around here..

Anyone have any idea on where the arcade machine will show up in the states?
If there's any place, it would be Golfland.

lol, I like the ash tray. hahahha.

What is that smaller unit right under the screen? Memory card slot? It appears it has a screen or something..

I own that adapter, the d-pad doesn't work. I tried and tried, doesn't work :(

I've ordered a pair of PS2-PS3 adapters from HK and i'm getting a pair of Elecoms comming from JPN (they are not here yet), I will post back when i get them.

An annoyingly good video feature there.

Still not 60fps though LOL

Also, PLEASE, has anyone worked out whether or not this PS2-Ps3 adapter works so that a (eg) VF4 PS2 stick can be used for VF5 PS3? Obviously a test with T5DR will suffice for the answer.

nice preview vid on gametrailers.com

On a side note the VF NAME QUEST MODE character contest:
My friend got his VF NAME entered into QUEST MODE. I wonder if I was able to get in the game as well?

Now I have to get the Import and Domestic versions of the game. Damn you SEGA

Elecom adapters work with PS3 games.

Unfortunately I don't know of any online store that sells them.

I have a couple and they work really well with Tekken 5: DR... no lag at all.

I tested about 20 joysticks all together.

I also played a lot of Goh since he is my main (i know i know, I wont win any tourneys) and he seems to have some new moves as well. He has this roll move in particular that kept coming out. I dont think that was in VF4, but i never played Final Tuned and I know he got some new moves in that.
A roll you say? Is it "abusable" so that you can roll under certain moves and follow up with a small combo or grab? That's what I liked about the improved hit detection in DOA 4: you could roll right under kicks with Bayman and punish players with a grab.

Never played a Virtua Fighter before, but I am interested in Goh, Lei-Fei, El-Blaze and to a lesser extent Aoi. First and last character especially because I heard they can counter moves, but I don't know if every character has defensive moves. Never fancied quick fighters nor ninja's, and I don't like the moves of the bigger wrestler players. Eileen is an exception though: she seems to be quite able tricking players with random stuff happening all of a sudden.

When I was using Jacky in VF5 (one of my mains as well from VF4:Evo), he had a counter that I don't remember him having in the previous VF games. I don't know if this is the same for all the other characters since it didn't seem like Kage had one when I used him afterwards, but I never really played long enough to explore his possible updated moveset.

1up article featuring Mielke's named character apearing in Quest Mode ''Milky Pai''

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3156712

LOL at Shane's character making it as ''Shank''

Milky Pai's entrance quote is "No chicken people!," a reference to an interview between editor James Mielke and Sega's Yu Suzuki, when EGM contributor Shane Bettenhausen's technique of hitting a player and running away until time runs out was revealed. Suzuki, disgusted with Bettenhausen's super-lame tactics issued the withering retort, "I did not create my game for chicken people!"

LOL getting called ''Chicken People'' by Yu Suzuki has got be the last thing you want to be called by the great Suzuki-san, hahahaha, poor Shane

Good question and I am guessing that is the idea behind it, to advance in for probably more of a throw rather than combo. I am guessing you can charge down back or whatever to start to process for his shoulder ram move when you come out of it? If you dont know, this move puts people into stun and you can follow up with combo and stuff. The thing is it looked like it had a slight delay at the end, so i am not sure how effective it is. This is ALL THEORY though, I am just guessing in that I didnt get to test it against top players or anything.

i am also thinking it may be used for more of a bait move.. Roll in from a distance, wait/block, counter?? Who knows...

If you are new to VF, I find just going into training mode w/ characters you are interested in helps a lot. just (try to :lol) do all the moves and you will find a character that you click with. I did that with Goh and just loved all the throw variations, the similiarty of makotos karakusa grab from 3s to his punch counter into grab.

Ideally I would want to play Akira but my execution sucks too much to be effective w/ him. he is so ****in nasty!!! I love his combos too.. they are so demoralizing imo..

Goh's roll is not particularly special, because there are no roll specific moves that come out of it. However, it's a fast way to advance, and of course it ducks highs and might go under some mids. Lei Fei, El Blaze, and Kage all have better rolls.

However, if you use Goh, roll forward and buffer a throw, if the opponent just stands blocking, you'll throw him instantly.

Akira's combos got much easier in 5, so you owe it to yourself to try it out. :)

Cool, so coming out of it is pretty quick then? It seemed like a slow-ish move, and he already has that B, DF + P move that advances him and also hits low, set up for shoulder charge etc etc. I just dont see myself using the new roll that much.

Anybody find out about that 1080p on the back of the japanese box? or is it wishful thinking? :/

Hopefully it is true or else I'll be waiting for the 360 version. My Mitsubishi only supports 480p and 1080i.

I wanted to make some gif images from all these new videos but I don't have time. Next week probably...

I can't wait for this game!!!!!!!!

How much easier? Like, the lance & SPOD can be performed by mere humans now? (I swear, I've been practicing that crap since 3tb and I can only pull it off occasionally in practice). Is his knee still a just frame? Never got why that was, aside from just proving how cool you are for being able to pull it off. Half the characters in the game have the same move just by doing fK or whatever.

Dragon Lance Combo has two inputs, one gets you more damage but is harder, the other one is much simpler but you get less damage. The knee is still a just frame.

Simply put, Akira is a character made for people who like crazy technical inputs. Akira's Knee can also net him hugggee damage, and it can hit people after they bounce off the wall and onto the ground. It's worth the effort.

Akira has a ton of new moves that are kind of easy to pull off, and they look cool too :)

until i have some PS3-owning friends to play this game with, i think i'm going to pass.

I respect what Sega is doing, and i even understand the "no-online" decision. But right now, i'm more interested in story-driven single-player experiences and online multiplayer. i don't think i can justify $60 for an offline fighter when there's so many other games i want coming a couple weeks later.

It's a shame.

But there's plenty of options if you want people to play with. Lots of matchmaking threads on virtuafighter.com . I don't know where you're located, but there are growing VF scenes all over the US.

wow , where did u see that? !!

All you need to do to get JP commentary and menus and text to come up (or vice versa for English) is switch your PS3's language settings to Japanese or English, respectively, in the navbar menu.

So the Japanese version coming out is basically the English version just by changing the language settings on the PS3? Oh snap. I might have to import, however, I do like the US box art more.

Decisions decisions.

are u...really , really really sure? :o!

so english version has english commentary?

also in the Import version if i have the language set to english it will be just like the NA version?

i was considering importing it, but they are only 12 days apart, i think I can live those 12 days in patience and just pick up the NA version at EB

Wow. Who buys the 360 version that comes later with 720p?

The 360 version is rumored to have some extras

edit - is it really 1080p native? sega has been making such a fuss about vt3 being 1080p native but they haven't even, as far as i know, talked about vf5 being 1080p
