Official Virtua Fighter 5 Thread

How in the mother**** do you do a "side slide shuffle" as Jacky? I know it's <-P+K+G to do a side shuffle, but the side slide shuffle just isn't anywhere in the game or manual or anything.

Dahh....I need to do "from side slide shuffle" P. I tried a slide shuffle on the SIDE of a character but nothing happened.

you know in the moveslist, the moves that make Jacky shuffle to the side after doing a ceratin move

that's the one

I don't remember which it is, but it's like some normal punch the pressing up and someting to slide to the side after the move

it's that,,

but I forgot which specific move it

pressing SELECT during the DOJO modes's command move list thing will set you in the correct stance so you don't have to manually set yourself up all the time to back turned or sitting down stance or whatever

Y2Kevbug, just press SELECT during the Command Training in your character will be set to that stance

Using Lau I have made it to Warrior, I just played for about 3 hours straight, my hands hurt, lol. The quest mode is so addicting, everytime you want to stop something new pops up and you are compelled to keep fighting.

While I am absolutly having a blast, it is clear to me that the A.I. is not as good as VF4 Evo, I have to agree with those that say the AI has taken a hit. But no matter, makes it better for me, I ain't that good, now I can get really far in the quest mode.

Conquerer is the highest rank.

There's a few inbetween Master and it and it's based on your win percentage. That's where all the CPU ranks like Paladin and Protecter are from.

There's several different strings that can do a side slide shuffle. For example PP->PP up or down P+K+G. They're listed in the command list.

EDIT: I popped in VF4, and I had a few mistakes. Sorry, my memory kind of sucks. I corrected everything though. :)

Updated. :)

I just went through a streak of about 13 straight matches with Brad in the last arcade (the one with mostly high rank profiles) and ALL of them had an "item battle" attached to them. I completely filled up my orb container, got a few items, a shirt, and about 3000g. I suspect it only continued because of the win streak, but I don't know what the hell was going on. The most I've had before was 3 "item battle" chances in a row.

Does anyone know anywhere that I can order Hori RAP3 sticks from that has them in stock?

I've had VSHG sticks pre-ordered since January, but still no sign of those being re-released. I'm worried that I still won't have sticks in three weeks time when the PS3 is released, which would suck massively.

I picked up VF4:Evolution to see what people love about the franchise, and I love the goddamn game. A totally different style of fighting than the normal casual games I play (DOA, Street Fighter) and it's easy to see why the 1up guys get so excited over the tournament they're having.

If I had a PS3 I'd pick up VF5 right now, but I have to wait until it hits the 360. Boo-urns.

I dont know about you guys but I think VF5 crushes VF4 evo. I've got both and 5 just seems so much more playable. Maybe it's the smoothness of the graphics having something to do with it.

Well VF5 is basically VF4 with good graphics but without the tutorial mode..

it's not a radically new game -- and you shouldn't expect the fifth installment of a fighting game to be radically new -- but there's a lot more to it than a graphics upgrade. even for casual players like me.

Have you played the game? Watched Srider's videos on Gamevideos? If you have, it's pretty difficult to make that statement.

arcade VF4 vs PS2 VF4 really shows off ''graphically'' the imperfection of the port onto PS2. Seeing the beautifull lighting of VF4 at arcades really spoiled me when I saw the drab flat lighting on the PS2 port.

VF5 on PS3 is probably the first ''graphically'' arcade perfect VF on console ever. Making it more enjoyable without the arcade perfect devil gnawing on the shoulder.

Gameplay wise, VF5 adds on top of VF4. The evade make over into Deffensive Move and Offensive Move adds alot on your choices

Srider's vid of crounching back dash into Offensive Move demonstration was cool, I will try to use that on my friend

Gonna head off with a couple of friends this weekend to a national qualifying VF5 tourney. I'm not in the tournament (I had to move while the qualifers were going on, plus my friends live in the inaka where it's infinitely easier to qualify:lol ) but I'll probably get a lot of games in with them. I hope they actually save some of them. :p

Hold tight just a bit longer. I have heard that the VSHGs are trickling back out into Japanese stores. The wait shouldn't be much longer.

is that a personal List then?(though i guess all lists would just be made by someone, or some people) dont know if i agree with all that though.

Lau, Wolf, Lei-Fei, i dont agree with those ones.

Lau seems very much a beginner character, Wolf i cant see how he seems difficult enough to you to think he would be advanced, and i think Lei-Fei is to complicated with all his stances and how they link and flow to each other for a beginner. the rest seems pretty accurate though, Vanessa i havent played enough to think shes an advanced player or not though.

Does the whole ranking system in this game work the same as VF4 Evo. I'm a Veteran now and its getting really hard to tell how high a rank the people I am facing are.

I got those from Virtua Fighter 4's character select screen.

EDIT: Excluding Eileen and El Blaze of course. I assumed those are beginner characters from personal experience. :)

I've ordered this game + the strat guide from Play-Asia. I'm an Aussie and I must confess - this game is the single reason why I'm buying a PS3 at launch. Then I'm buying it on 360 later in the year.

VF 4 life.

I just started learning Pai, and she is pretty good character for a beginner. Does anyone have any reccomendations for remembering the moves. I do practice in the dojo, but I have a hard time remembering which moves to what. Is there a way to make a smaller command list that, so I can master moves slowly.

I hope I'm right too! One of the reliable posters at VFDC stated he saw the sticks back in stores yesterday. Hopefully PlayAsia can get their hands on the new sticks soon and get them to us ASAP.

Wolf isn't advanced, he's intermediate: all standing throws are based off P+G, it is nothing like King in Tekken who was a pain in the ass the memorize.

VF's throw system makes learning throw characters more logical and immersive with standing throws based on P+G and low throws based on a down direction + P+K+G

Wolf's strikes are straight forward to learn, there aren't many difficult command inputs with his strikes. Making him feel like comfortable when playing him when you know him.

The biggest difficulty with Wolf is learning his combos, that is the area where you must practice to get right combos going.

Wolf is an intermediate character in my book, intermediate because he needs to be used well in application to be sucsessful

Lei Fei is no way a Beginner character, absolutely no way in hell. To learn what he does and why he does it takes more time learning it. Button mashing is not a correct way to judge a character, learning them in and out is. There is no way that a novice can pick up Lei Fei and really learn all the moves that cause stance change and understand why he is doing it.

I would place Lei as Intermediate/almost advanced

Hey look, seems that there's some sort of report on the sticks being found in shops:
http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/2007/03/01/103,1172747686,67906,0,0.html
It seems that the new sticks have 'S' or 'M' engraved on the base, just below the sticker:

It's pretty encouraging news. I'll definitely hold out now.

Yeah i think both Wolf and Jeffry are definitely intermediate characters. They're not very hard to pick up, but to use them effectively is what's tough about them.

tell that to Bebpo! :p

Don't shoot the messenger. :lol Tell that to AM2.

I'd like to make a small request. Can someone please tell me wtf I did here:

http://chode.org/misc/vf5-wtf.avi (<1MB)

The punch-punch part specifically. I was trying to do the (back+punch), kick combo but I ended up doing that little punch-punch combo instead and I can't recreate it for the life of me and I really want to. Anyone know how to do it? :(

Just got the game. So pretty. Are those 5-6 arcades in Quest mode the only ones? We don't go around a map like in VF4: Evo? VF5's Quest resembles Kumite from vanilla VF4 actually.

Also how do I do the Offensive Move?

The rankings should be on www.virtuafighter.com somewhere, I think. I remember reading on the ranks.

Any way, went to the regional qualifying tournament for the national VF5 tourney (Kakutou Shinseki IV). There was one of these in December and this is the second one. During qualifers I was actually moving and I didn't have a lot of time or money to enter the tournament, but two of my friends from Fukui and Kanazawa got to the regionals so I decided to go and hang out with them, and cheer them on. There were some really good players there, including UraOshu, who's considered one of the top players in the country.

This is the set up for the tournament. The big screen in the middle is usually used for House of the Dead 4, but it was retrofitted to broadcast the matches being played on the left-hand machine. Almost everyone at the arcade that day was in the tournament.

Some of the peeps at the tourney. There was actually one junior high school kid there :lol Sad thing is that he actually whooped me pretty good in the game. His defense wasn't all that hot, but he uses Jacky and he has a good, aggressive style of play.
409849400_da4ee90439_o.jpg

This is the screen that pops up when a match is finished. Basically shows who won and whatnot.
409849438_9dc402c012_o.jpg

This is the match up screen in the arcade. You can see the little tags at the top, which basically denote if that player had been owning up people recently. As you can see the Lau player has an insane number of tags. Most of them were from last month, where he was ranked in the top three in the entire damn country. Also, make note of his match count. That's why he's so damn good.
409849503_824d19d7f8_o.jpg

This is a match-up screen when the players insert their cards. The Eileen on the right was the eventual winner of the tournament, and was god damn lucky that he got as far as he did. In the first round of the tournament, he faced off against a strong Lau player, and it went down to the wire. During the last round, the Lau player hit a P+G throw and both players stood up, and the Lau player didn't bother using the ground stomp, which is guaranteed after his P+G throw because they both assumed the match was finished. It wasn't finished. The Eileen player realized this and quickly sat down, did a quick low kick while recovering, and won the match. God damn lucky!

The really cool thing about VF5 in Japan is that the VF Terminal (which some people bitched about being TOO EXPENSIVE :p) is used to set up all of the tournaments in the arcades as well. This was a new feature that was added during version B. Basically, the arcade operators have to switch the terminal to tournament mode, and then each player has to insert their IC card into the terminal. The terminal then reads the card and registers it. Once that's finished, everything else is automated; the brackets are madely fairly cleanly, and the game will prompt the players to play when their turn is up. While the players are having their matches, previously played matches in the tournament are played on VF.tv. Pretty cool stuff! I hope I have enough time to enter the next national tourney! I'm going to try to qualify for Super Battle Opera in Tekken 5 DR, Soulcalibur 3 and VF5. I doubt I'll have much of a chance but I'll give it a go.

some pix of my akira i took a while back and forgot to upload. my first time taking pictures off my tv, so they might kinda...look like crap:

Every time that I look in this thread, I hope that the "summer" for the 360 version means June, not August or September. And that Sega brings out their fighting stick for the 360, because the pad sucks something awful.

Does anyone notice that in the intermediate arcade, the guy named "Mizune" or something will constantly fight you? As soon as that guy shows up, no matter how many times I beat him he'll be the next challenger.

Oh wow, is Supergolden one of them?

Amazing seeing so many people playing VF...I went to the local arcade last friday, and ALL the fighting games were empty. It's like the scene here is dead...everyone was playing the various betting games and some VR-style Gundam game. I think I need to start going elsewhere.

Man, are you STILL going on about this? Yes, the VF Terminal does some cool things, but I think it's expensive. Guess you got a grudge against me now. :(

I (finally) beat Dural with Pai today - is anything supposed to happen or be unlocked? Addition points? Anything? Other than knowing you beat Dural? Heh.

im thinking of picking up either the HRAP or the VSHG (when either get restocked) as a second joystick (Ive been using the HFS3), which one would be better to pick up? and both work on PC right, the HFS3 doesnt seem to and I heard the HRAP does, not sure about the VSHG.
