Communication Skills

Written by Mike Jenkins, Wednesday November 11 2009

I know I haven’t been here on the site in a while, sorry. I’m just trying to stay focused on the season, trying to be team-oriented. We’re trying to get our chemistry right. We go out as a team together every Thursday night and the guys have been spending a lot of time together, that’s why I’ve been so busy.

We have had way better communication lately, especially between the offense and the defense, and I think that is translating onto the field. It’s really helping us on both sides of the ball.

I’ve been picking Romo’s brain a lot, every week. All he does is study quarterbacks to try to pick up ways where he can get better. I feel like as far as he’s studying quarterbacks, that can be an asset to me. I ask him what he knows about the quarterback we’re about to face, Eli Manning, Donovan McNabb, and he breaks them down for me. He knows their weaknesses and strengths, when they’ll check down. It’s been a big help.

Other players also have been communicating better. Jason Witten will ask DeMarcus Ware about certain guys on defense, will this guy chip me coming off the edge, that kind of thing.

You need all the help you can get in this league. Especially someone like me, who had done nothing coming out of college except man-to-man defense. I didn’t think anything of it, just put me in front of my guy and let me cover him. But there’s so much to learn that can make you a better player, like knowing how being on the short side of the field can change the kind of routes the receivers run.

As a defense we’ve gotten a lot better since the season started. We lost the first couple games by a few points and we felt like it was on us because it came down to stopping the two-minute offense. The last couple games we won, and I feel like the defense played a role in shutting the other team down in the last two minutes. So we’ve shown a lot of improvement.

We had a big win against the Eagles and we’re really gaining confidence. It’s tough to go to Philly and come out with a win because the crowd is real tough. Win or lose, their fans are going to be on you.

We’re at Green Bay this weekend and it will be another tough crowd. It’s like a college atmosphere there, the whole city shuts down for the game.

I know where I’ll be Wednesday morning. My first stop, even before team meetings, will be at the QB room. Meetings don’t start until 8:30 but Romo gets in around 6 a.m. and I’ll be there at 7 to talk to him about Aaron Rodgers...
:)

I just read on CNNSI that Chris Johnson is averaging 6.6 yards a carry. WTF, how can you lose 6 games in a row with a running back averaging those kinds of numbers? Even Vince Young can win with that kind of running attack.

Time to pack your bags and get the fuck out of the league Mr. Collins.

Yeah, Johnson is the ultimate boom-or-bust running-back. He is the king of either getting 80 yards or -3.
When his overall yards per carry is over 7, it's easy to live with boom or bust.

Technically it's not, his yards per carry is 6.7. Still good stuff. Maybe somebody mistook his 7.7 yards per reception? Which is average but still alright.

Maybe I saw his yard per touch or something. Either way...6.7 is holy shit good.

I installed Windows 7 last week and forgot to save my favorites...can someone be so kindly as to direct me to the websites tonight that will be streaming the Bears/niners game online? I remember two main sites but can't think of them at the moment. Thanks!

THANK YOU PATRICK CRAYTON!! Maybe not this team will play with some passiong.
Green Bay - Apparently the Dallas Cowboys think they'll be facing a Packers team on Sunday that is coming apart at the seams.

Receiver Patrick Crayton was asked by reporters in Dallas on Thursday if the Packers are a desperate team.

"I think so," he said. "The president is putting pressure on the head coach. The coach is throwing his players under the bus. It happens. Pressure busts pipes. People tend to crack up."

Crayton was referring to the remarks by Packers team president Mark Murphy earlier this week that the Packers have been "disappointing" and that he expects "that we'll make the changes that we need to end up having a successful season."

Of course, Crayton has never been seen a microphone he didn't like. And he's made provocative statements before facing the Packers each of the previous two years.

Here ya go Bob

didn't seem to help you guys last two years
Yeah, but coming off a humiliating loss like last week, and now Dbag McGeneric-WR mouthing off...

I'm just looking for reasons to hope.

What he says is true! Players are blaming the coaching/scheme. Meathead McCarthy is blaming the players. The GM is inept. Your team is falling apart at the seams!

Now could someone please get me some video links so I can watch my team fall apart again tonight! :D

I'm still trying to figure out when McCarthy threw anyone under the bus. He SHOULD have thrown Jolly to the fucking wolves but was way too nice.

As far as scheme, the defense has been bitching all year (even when we were good).

McCarthy hasn't done any press stuff that any other coach wouldn't. I mean maybe he's not as loving when describing his QB's groin, but he's certainly not laying blame on his players.

oh niners i can't stay mad at you forever! i was going to skip out on watching this game, but i found a sports bar to see it at and i have to go with my bros!

GO NINERS BIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALEX RISING!!!

i want to argue with you, but.... i have no compelling arguments to make at this time :(

I was expecting something simple, like "Tampa"

Gilbert isn't happy. Maybe he will eat McCarthy?

"The Vikings have stole our swagger, period," Brown said. "Everybody on that team stole our swagger. Took our quarterback. Took our heart on Lambeau Field. Took our heart in front of millions of fans on TV. Then you go out and lose to an 0-7 team. The debacle started when they played the Vikings right there. The two Vikings games crushed the season."

:lol

I picked the Niners to win in the office pool even though they have fucked me over on a weekly basis all year round. So for that reason I want the Niners to win.

On the other hand I would take the loss if it meant another epic Singletary conference:

I dunno about that, "PLAYOFFS?" "Diddly-poo!" And "let'em off-the-hook" were all pretty epic.

The truth is, I don't know who either of these teams really are anymore.
I have no idea how good or bad the 9ers and Bears actually are.
I feel like picking the winner is a shot in the dark.

They are about as hard as the packers to figure out.
