I've heard a lot about him but what exactly were the changes he made when he took over?
Well, my thoughts on playing Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, and Shenmue II were "Man, Dreamcast is an awesome system."

My ps2 and network adapter for socom say xbox didn't innovate online.
Dreamcast was highly innovative, it just failed. The OG Xbox was sort of carrying on its legacy with progressive scan support on almost all games like the Dreamcast but took it a step further with HD support, 4 controller ports like Dreamcast, Internet connection hardware standard like the Dreamcast but took it a step further by disallowing phone modems to make sure of a minimum level of quality, and a focus on online connectivity even more than SEGA.
So what I learned so far from this thread:
Sega in the mid to late nineties and early two thousands were a very passionate game developing company that made some amazing games, but didn't know diddly squat about hardware and the console biz or had the proper budget for it....Microsoft had a lot of money and knew how to make a machine that could have a growing install base.
Ha it does read like that but we know what happened to Sega, they trolled themselves with that crazy hardware business. Is OP being serious? That OP reads like some next-level trolling of Dreamcast fans.
He left

But i thought MS change was worth discussing.
It's so weird that J Allard gets received so well nowadays. I mostly remember "hardcore" folks hating on him (and that time period of the 360) for Velocity Girl, lol hoodie, MS Points/Allards, no hard drive wtf, RROD, etc.
Did the dreadlock wig change people's minds or something?
During that era Microsoft was firing on all cylinders with games like Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, Shemue 2, gunvalkyrie, Panzer Dragoon, Mech Assualt, Crimson Skies just to name a few. But also brought us Live which changed console gaming forever. No longer was online gaming the home of pc players or Limited Dreamcast owners, now Everyone could connect and game against each other.
I still remember late night sessions against folks in Moto GP. Oroject Gotham Racing, and Mech Assualt as beung some of the most fun I had in gaming.
The Xbox One, even with some much needed refinements (which will come), has the most potential of any console Microsoft has ever released. It is the most innovative and impressive console Microsoft has ever released, despite so people believing otherwise. It's not perfect, and these things rarely are, but what Microsoft has as a starting point, and can build from, is a whole lot more exciting than what they ever had with previous Xbox consoles.
And then there's things in the wings such as the plan to offer free dedicated servers to everybody making games for the Xbox One. I like to see companies take risks, and Microsoft has taken a few with the Xbox One, all of which I think make it a better, more exciting, system.
Wait, sonic adventure came out on the Xbox? Shits news to me. I knew it came out on the GameCube but this is the first I hear of an Xbox version.
I agree but its up to MS at this point. They need to show us not just talk about it. This somewhat reminds me of the endless talk of ps3 potential. The ps3 had all this potential with the cell and it never really differentiated itself much from the 360 graphically. If these dedicated servers and Kinect can bring us a innovative future we need to see it.The Xbox One, even with some much needed refinements (which will come), has the most potential of any console Microsoft has ever released. so what you are saying is that the SEGA dreamcast is one of the most innovative consoles created?
It's true, we all wish for another Dreamcast.
Honestly the failure to acknowledge what MS did with live and an internal hard drive smells like a bias. Xbox live was an innovative game changer in the console sphere.Came here to post this lmao.
Dreamcast was innovative as hell. The Xbox? Notsomuch
Oh the last 10 consoles released an argument can be made that the original Xbox was the most important and most innovative.
Its interesting to see someone bashing the xb1 hardware sporting a Nintendo avatar. Oh and if we are honest every console this generation is underpowered by a mile in comparison to modern affordable gpus.Xbox One has more potential than 360 did for its time? You can't be serious. For starters, 360 wasn't utilizing underpowered hardware.

Xbox (as a whole) from 2001 to 2008 was amazing.
Fuck.
What is the target demographic of SEGA systems, anyway? The Xbox felt a lot like a brand new Sega console in many ways, especially in terms of the content offering and target demographic.
