Today (Saturday), for example, I've bought:

£80 Jeans
£10 DVD (Rules of Attraction)
£4 CD Single (Taking Back Sunday)

=

$178

And we still have tommorow to contend with.

God DAMN! Some you guys spend a lot of money on the weekend.

I can have a blast and spend just a 20 dollar bill.

slayn

needs to show more effort.
how the hell do you people spend so much money?

I couldn't spend $300 bucks over a weekend solely on weekend entertainment if you handed me $300 and promised to give me far more if I managed to spend it by the end of the weekend.

forgot to answer the question:

usually $0, perhaps $20 for a particularly interesting weekend.

Not much. $100 bucks at the most (and this is not a constant)

I'm pretty good at making people want to buy my drinks and whatnot. If I were a chick, I would probably be called a whore.

Usually its about $100 for the wife and I, but we splurged this weekend and spent $60 on books ontop of the usual dinners with friends.

Yeah, how much do some of you make. $300 for 2 people, say 3/4weekends a month is $1800 a month (which would buy ,what, a $250,000 house?). That is a ton of friggin money.

For us, my paycheck pays all the bills and my wife's check(which is a lot smaller then mine) goes towards entertainment.

Man you people dropping $100 plus must be making a ton of money. I live in Chicago and unfortunately at most I can afford $50 for weekend fun. I try to spend even less than that. Nothing like that Ivy League education bringing in $31k.

Well it's not that I've been working awhile and I got it to "blow" also I gamble so I'll head to the tables and drop a fifty here or there. So that's where my cash tends to go. Also my buddies and I have developed a system where each week it is someone else's turn to by drinks for the crew (it's only 4 of us really) so one weekend I'll buy all the drinks for the guys and then the next weekend it will be someone else's turn. So in REALITY I only by drinks once a month.

Well the same could be said with games, movies and cds. Did you enjoy it? Then ya, you didn't waste your money on those either. At least with those, you not only get the experience with them, you have something to show for it at the end of the day and you can resell it if you choose. I'm not saying how you should spend your money but I think its quite interesting how you complain about one then do something else that is just as bad if not worse with the money.

I see where you are coming from. I'm never one to put one form of spending cash over another. If you enjoy how you spent it then go for it. Being a member of this forum means that I've blown a lot of cash on video games. Now then would I have been better off if I would have never played a video game and put all that cash into MS and EA? Probably so but, life sure as hell wouldn't have been as much fun.

Before I was married it was a piece of cake for me to go through $200 bucks easy in a weekend. Now that I'm married we don't go out every weekend and when we do wo don't end up going a lot of places that cost a lot of money so many times we're less than $100 bucks unless we go eat sushi or something.

Yeah the plus to being married over dating from where I see it is that you aren't obligated to go out EVERY weekend. The joy of being together pays for itself methinks.

Depends on if its just 'you' or 'you + 1'. If its you + 1, then its pretty easy to spend $100 bucks over the course of a weekend.... really really easy.

Too easy.

BigGreenMat said:
Well if it is 'you+1' then that should be divided by 2.
And subtract your available ass by 1. Then your equation should work. You gotta pay to play.

I don't think a video game message board on the internet is a place for such dicussion eh?

How many things do we talk about around here are for such discussion on video game message board? Hell, do we even talk about video games anymore?

I save my money and spend it on things of significance, not silly ephemeral stuff (except for the aforementioned groceries which I need to live).
Live to eat or Eat to live?
That's the question.
Sounds like you Eat to live....

With that said, I almost never spend over $40 a weekend, unless it's something special like a game or concert.

Well I agree spending $40-50 on drinks is just as silly as spending money on random junk that you can keep. But at the same time, we have a blast when we go drinking. I wouldn't trade away that social experience for anything.

Some of my friends buy 2-3 DVDs, 3-4 CDs, 2-3 Games every week. They have shelves of DVDs that they never rewatch, shelves of games they barely have played, and shelves of CDs they have listened to once and never touched again. They have no savings whatsoever. All of their money goes towards collecting knick knack after knick knack. They don't really seem to get much enjoyment out of the assorted junk they have collected. In fact, all it does is clutter up their room. It seems like consumerism at its worst. It is the pathway to being forced to work until you are 65 IMO.

My parents spend about $250 on groceries for the next week.
$5 on renting a movie...

and that's pretty much it...

However when they finally do spend their money, the spend a lot of it at once :lol.

Definitely, agreed. I think when you're buying things, you should consider depreciation. Some people are content to keep things forever, but I've gotten into the mode of being extremely picky about buying things that depreciate. Clothes depreciate instantly. Games depreciate 50% in about 3 months, depending on the game of course, and depending on whether you sell it yourself or trade it in. DVDs can depreciate much faster than that. And on the bigger side, of course, cars depreciate as soon as you drive them off the lot, sometimes with eye-popping speed.. then it's slow for a while, then they quickly become worthless after about 5 years.

What I'm getting at is, with anything that depreciates, it's better to rent it. What you pay for the experience is usually less than the amount that it depreciates, and even if it's the same, then you're still improving your cash flow by keeping more of your money in your bank account rather than using it to temporarily own the item.

Lease cars. Rent games. Rent DVDs. Hell, if it was possible, I would rent clothes...

End money rant.

I don't know if leasing cars is a good idea if you're buying one for less than $20K. If I were buying a high end luxury car, and lived near work I’d do it, but constantly having to worry about mileage limits is annoying.
I always buy a car that’s a year old, and end up saving a shitload of money.

Yeah, basically. Great fancy meals are awesome, but I'm not that into them to really justify the money over other things. As long as it's somewhat tasty, filling and healthy, I'm good to go. No need to spend a lot.

Ya, I never saw the point of leasing a car either. You pay just as much as if you were making payments on owning the car, but then in the end, you have nothing to show for it as well. Renting in many cases can be a waste compared to just flat out buying something. Fortunately for me, I don't drink, nor do I smoke so I tend to save a ton of money that a lot of people spend on vices anyway. That doesn't mean I don't go out, nor have the occaisional drink, but I just save a ton of money that way. I even calculated that at the rate I get games, DVDs, and other forms of entertainment, I'm only spending about $2000 to $2500 a year on that stuff, which is at a rate of picking up at least something once per week. That's a lot of games and DVDs yet it doesn't really add up to a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. My games and DVDs will always be there, and I can use them at any time. I can sell them if needed. And despite all this, I'm still saving money, and from the sound of it, probably spending less than some of you guys do on alcohol every week.

It is a good idea to lease cars because it's basically financing depreciation, and guaranteeing that your car has a certain value at the end of the term. The perk is that you can drive a $20,000 car and make payments that would be like buying a $9000 car. The catch, of course, is that you have to have good credit.

As for mileage limits, if you go over, it's 5 cents a mile (if you factor it in beforehand). That's a lot less than KBB dings you for excess mileage.

I'm socially inept and don't really enjoy 'going out' much. I did my fair share of going to clubs, concerts, bla in high school mainly because my friends dragged me along. Now days my idea of a good weekend is sitting down with a great game and calling in delivery. I get my fair share of jackasses during the work week, during my time off, I want to have a little quite personal time. When I venture out from my gaming-optimized dungeon it's usually for a trip to Fry's. I'm sure that sounds sad to most people here, but frankly that's the way I enjoy things. I spend probably an average of $20 on fast food/pizza/whatever per weekend. The money I saved compared to most is my justification for blowing money on games and assorted unnecessary electronic grown man toys.

I try to spend less than 100, mainly cause I have a wasteful lifestyle and 20 bucks a day on the weekdays isn't uncommon, which breaks me for the weekend. Generally I try and work it like this though

1 dozen beers = ~18bucks go to a friends on saturday, get boozed go to town, buy a few drinks plus kebab on way home and then eat bad food sunday. I think that's usually more like 60 bucks.

everynow and then the wasteful urge hits me and I might waste 200 bucks though.

I bought it blindly based on the Avary/Pulp Fiction connection. Watched it last night. It was fairly good. Worth what I paid.

I won't ask why you didn't like it... Did, did it touch you in places?

I thought Rules of Attraction was pretty fucking hilarious. The alcoholic gay dude was a riot.

Is that the movie with the drunk girl that loses her virginity while passed out and gets thrown up on by the guy that takes it?

Loved that movie.

i guess being single doesn't hold any specific advantage financially over having a significant other. On one hand, you can blow a hundred per weekend easy on drinks and lap dances. On the other, you can do what i do - work, save money, and occasionally treat yourself. At the very most, i've recently spent a hundred on the weekend. That's usually sushi/sashimi and a couple rounds of sake and good tips, a fifth of liquor, and a pack of cigarettes.

Come on man, Keystone? Go to CVS and get the Pabst they always have on sale.

$20 or so for alcohol
$10 for fast food
$10 for miscellaneous things, like if I see a movie or something

That's about it.
