On this day, 1 year ago, Concord, one of the greater gaming success stories in recent memory, was shut down

I wonder if the game would have been better received with sexy models? Was the gameplay actually good?
According to those who have played it extensively:
  • Good lore writing (good enough for them to want a Destiny-style campaign instead of a PvP game)
  • Good gamefeel and combat
  • Average Hero shooter game design
  • Mediocre map design
  • Bad character design
  • Bad character writing

I actually played the beta a bit. There was a solid foundation there, but even if it was excellent it was never going to be sustainable as an exclusive, $40, PvP only title. Not many games of this type will be in this climate.

Unlikeable characters, confusing and poorly balanced abilities. Some maps were ok, some were just awful. The weapons were hit and miss, both in look and feel.

The idea of an ongoing narrative in multiplayer games is just stupid unless it's a massive franchise. Even Halo and Division 2 didn't manage it, and we all know the pathetic state Destiny 2 is in.

Ultimately the continued high profile cautionary tale of Concord is proportionate to how large the marketing and hopes were on it from PlayStation. Very similar to Destruction: All Stars.

In reality you could get a similar and more satisfying experience from playing Halo MP in the MCC. And that was the problem, it felt dated and too much like 'my first game' but with really good artists in the team, being hamstrung by terrible designs.

Dang, time really flies fast. It felt like we made fun of it yesterday lol. Honestly it's poetic how the game's failure was such a huge success. Sweet irony. Oh well, even if it was successful and huge, I have still lost interest in these type of games long time ago. It relied on a genre that was far bigger back then (come to think of it, the game has been in development for so long before release).
