That said, who's targeting Big Mom? Luffy told her off, but it really seems like his and law's main target at this point is Kaido.

I don't know, I like it. The world is moving and Ruffy is not the only rising star on the horizon. It's nice to have a class of pirates that are not the high end, but have still a lot of growth potential. Opposed to just stronger pirates appear to get smacked until an even more powerful group appears.

No, I just mean that I'm sure it's implied that the emperors are always fending off attempts to take them down, it's just all off screen and not about any characters we've been introduced to or ever will be.

Bonney might still be targeting Blackbeard. We've seen her wandering about and keeping up to date with the news. Maybe she's waiting for an opportunity to strike back at the Blackbeard Pirates.

I don't know. I could totally see Oda pulling off some Gurren Lagann sea of despair type space ocean. So I really wouldn't say space is the deep end since the crew already went to Skypieda and met angels then went to Thriller Bark and ran into zombies. But I feel you that mixing a romantic pirate adventure with hard sci-fi elements would be off without a good reason. Either way in Oda we trust.
