speaking of fire fist boy, honestly instead of making that one hour S vs L OP special.

Should have just animated the Ace novel into like a 1 hour special, though I imagine they will do one eventually.

I told you guys, he's the best test subject newcomer ever, has been very pleasant getting impressions from him regarding the arcs we've read/watched years ago.

The only thing I don't particularly like about Thriller Bark is Moria's henchman, outside of like Perona I guess, who I was pretty indifferent to outside of her reaction face. I mean, now she amuses me in that she is hilariously living with Mihawk of all people though.

But stuff like Brook, Nightmare Luffy, Ryuma, Zoro getting a new sword, and like you said, the strong ending with how Moria gets taken down, only to follow up with an unexpected visit from Kuma was pretty cool.

I have no real strong feelings in favor of the arc, but I did like it.

I think what helps OP, is that even arcs with bad stories keep the quality everywhere else: incredible background, funny moments, goda moments. No other shounen do that.

I think with One Piece, there's a base level of things Oda does that are always enjoyable. There aren't any plot tumors because the story more or less cuts off everything after its done with it.

Also probably helps somewhat that I'm a minority I guess. I just really like the various approaches to combating bigotry, not just externally, but internally as well. Fisher Tiger's more aggressive approach that was pretty much just "fuck slavery", while Otohime was all about doing it peacefully. Both had their advantages and disadvantages.

Then you see how that affects the next generation. Arlong lets the hatred consume him, and ends up being prejudiced against humans himself, their only value to him being that they give him opportunities to make more money. Jinbe was more solemn, lamenting that humans are afraid of their race, that this could change if they got to know one another better. And then there's Hody, who still really gets to me with his answer of "Nothing". He didn't let the hate consume him, he didn't have any sob story, he was simply born that way. Very frightening when you realize that there really are people like that in the world.

And then lastly is Fisher Tiger, who was utterly conflicted due to his biases. He was ultimately prejudiced himself, but saw it fit that no one, not even humans, should suffer at the hands of slavery. Nor did he want to spread the hatred in his heart to the next generation, as he hoped the cycle could be broken. It was very sad that he wasn't able to rise above it, and died as a result, but at the same time it was very realistic when considering what he had gone through, being reminded one last time that he and humanity could never truly get along.

Is it the best arc? Nah, but the themes and characterization was strong af in my opinion.

Fisher Tiger is so great. He wants to forgive so badly but he knows he can't in his heart but he tries so damn to teach the next generation. Forgive but never forget. It's powerful as hell.
