Episode 3

Naho, you should have told him your feelings. Now this will turn into a cycle of regrets, misundentardings and awkward scenes I bet.

And he did suicide after all.

it took until episode 3 to figure that out... and even then, we still have no idea what the accident is

maybe is that he could still be sick and doesn't expect to live longer than 10 years

Couldn't finish the first episode. Why wouldn't she read the entire letter immediately? Why not discuss it with her seemingly close friends? Baffling.

Any of those actions could have altered tge future too much and/or she would be institutionalized as a crazy woman. Also, the leter was written to her directly from herself with specific details that only sge can do to help him.

Naho, you should have told him your feelings. Now this will turn into a cycle of regrets, misundentardings and awkward scenes I bet.

I mean, he eventually saw the "NO" she did write in response to "is it ok for me to go out with Ueda," so he kinda knows how she feels at this point
but yeah,
she didn't wanna hit in the softball game, she hit in the softball game.
she didn't wanna give him the lunch, she gave him the lunch.
there seems to be a pattern
there was a line of monologue in ep1 or 2 where Naho says something to the effect of... even though she knows what she's gotta do, it's not so easy for people just to change their behavior like that

good ep tho. that last scene hit hard. the girl who's father owns a baker knew immediately what'd happened the second they got to the end of that letter.

(also, I just tried to look up her name and checked wikipedia... do not check wikipedia. definitely just got some shit spoiled.)

Yeah, I try to stay away from Wiki or many other internet sites for adaptation anime series because you always see something that you shouldn't read, lol.

Oh goodness, that ending! Naho finally broke out of her slump and talked to Kakaru, thanks to Suwa! I'm still not sure what this feeling is that I feel when watching this show, but it is this odd balance betwwen saddness and fear and happiness and hope. Either way, this was another great episode.

Episode 4

At first I wanted to kill Naho and Kakeru, especially the former. That's what I expected would happend last week. Oh, and like her friends, senpai really annoyed me.

At least in the end the awkwardness between both of them disappeared. And come on Naho, don't be dense, that person is you. It is obvious.

Meh. The characters in this show are so stupid. I guess they're highschoolers but still.

If I were to read a letter from my future self and see that it's for real, I'd read the whole fucking thing first a hundred times and memorize it. I wouldn't suddenly forget that shit because it's obviously the most important thing in your life at that moment.

You've got this friend who you like and will commit suicide or whatnot in a while and Naho's just fretting about highschool bullshit and being timid despite knowing that. You could just go and talk to the guy, you don't even have to make him break up with his girlfriend. It's unbelievable to me that such a person exists but I haven't spoken to girls her age in almost a decade. It's also obvious they like each other, this dumb suspense is pointless.

I'll give it one or two more episodes and if it doesn't get better I'll quit.
This is way inferior to Erased, but I guess it's not really the same so a comparison isn't valid.

I am not sure she did not read the entire letter, tbh. I mean, it is being revealed in parts (relevant to the plot) to us, because that makes more narrative sense (spoiling the entire letter would make little sense), but I think Naho read the entire thing.

The letter itself is sort of vague though, it only tells her specific things that happened that Mirai Naho wants her to change her actions on, not going into that much detail either. And as has been mentioned, Naho seems a very timid, shy, introverted person, she has a lot of trouble going in the new directions which clash 100% with her personality, the story is as much about changing what happened to Kakeru as it is about changing Naho herself.

Episode 5

Time travel, parallel worlds... A teacher who had a resemblance to Okarin talking about that.

Naho at least is taking a more proactive relationship with Kakeru. And on top of that, Suwa, despite admittting he likes her, is helping Naho hook up with Kakeru. Quite a bro Suwa is.

And Ueda continues being annoying and a selfish person. Wish she disappeared forever.

Protect this smile man..

Suwa is the man. It's easy to see how the future turned out the way it is. Excellent rpisodes that showed the dynamic of those three, not as a "love-triangle," but as a group of tight friends. It was also intresting to hear the teacher go over his time travel theory and I want to see how they tie that more closely with thr story.

Poor Kakeru having to live with all that regret, it is a bit unfair of Mirai Naho to put all that on young Naho, how can a teenage girl possibly help anyone overcome that kind of grief? I hope she can get through to him in time. Glad she has Suwa.
I wonder if all of them got a letter, that was a nice twist.

Suwa is a better man than me, that's for sure. All he wants is Naho to be happy.
The whole squad is some top-tier shit, but Suwa is the standout for me, yeah.

Right, part of the most interesting stuff about this anime is how Naho takes all the information she learns from the letters and tries to use it to change the present. There's a nice conflict between what she feels she must do and what she's being told to do. About you spoiler, I think
they all did receive one, yeah. That would explain their oddly accurate behavoir.

Oh damn. I guess that answers a TON of questions that everyone was coming up with about the direction the show was going in. Suwa is a much bigger man than I, but then again, now we know that he knew what was going on. Good episode!

So Suwa knew everything, just like Naho... I wonder if future Suwa told present Suwa he will marry Naho if Kakeru dies. Suwa is really a bro. And Ueda continues being a *insert word here*. Naho really has good friends.

Wow, this is the best anime of the season for me by far. Somehow I didn't see that twist coming at all. Like damn, this changes everything. I sat in disbelief all the way through the ending credits and stared at the screen for a bit even after it went black. Been a while since that's happened. Top tier stuff right here, folks.

I'm looking for a not overly "anime-y" anime to watch with my SO who doesn't *hate* anime but it's difficult to convince her to watch it do to her preconceived notions of what all anime.

She watched some Nisekoi with me and enjoyed it but anything too over-the-top won't work for her.

Is this something we should check out together? It seems like it is from what I have read.

If she can handle Nisekoi, she can certainly handle this. The material is very mainstream friendly; this could easily be a live-action TV drama.

Definately, this is very easy going and mature. Check out Erased as well. Steins;Gate could work also.

There's a lot better you could do than this.

Try Ping Pong.

All I can say is Suwa is da man. One of the best bros I have seen. Although I wish with this Kakeru finally desisted on his desire to kill himself, something tells me this isn't over. Hopefully nothing bad happens to him.

My roommate recommended I watch this, and damn, I gotta say I am shocked at the quality. This is such a good show. Note that I dont watch a lot of anime so I am not *actually* sure if this good compared to most other shows.

And yes, with this latest episode, Suwa is a true bro confirmed.

Yeah, though this is the first episode where I have truly felt like they were actually changing something by getting Kakeru to unload his feelings onto them, and with him confessing to Naho and her confirming she feels the same I am pretty sure he is in a better place then he was in the future timeline.

Oh my God Suwa. Seriously.... He is the best character in this show by a country mile. Some serious "feels" in this episode during that whole confession (confession of suicidal thoughts and of love) scene between Naho, Kakeru and Suwa. Pretty powerful stuff that was both well written and presented.

Yes, I think that's whats been really surprising to me. Like you might expect that scene to be kind of cheesy and the kind of thing where you'd roll your eyes, but it wasnt. It was very well done.

episode 5:
damn, so it seems like as much as Naho wants to save Kakeru, the idea of her ending up with Suwa regardless is presented. interesting.

episode 6:
opens IMMEDIATELY with Kakeru essentially asking her to decide between him and Suwa. nice. a lot of character development, and then whoooooaaaa! they all(?) got letters from the future? holy shit. best episode yet without a doubt.

episode 7:
ooooohh so damn near everything nice Suwa has been doing for Naho (since the beginning of the show at least) is to get her and Kakeru together. the Naho in the present is so much different from the Naho who couldn't give the chocolates to him in the future the notes came from. and holy shit again. the end of that episode was BIG. also the best episode without a doubt :)

the other three have to have gotten notes as well, right? like there had to be something after that dayi n the future at the grandmother's house where they all decided to write notes to the past (however the fuck that works). how many episodes is this supposed to go? episode 1 starts on April 6th, episode 7 ends in on like September 20th, and he dies February 15th.

oh, also:

A HA! they did all get letters! seemed kind of inevitable... is this the first episode with no cutaways to the future? feels like it

also I totally wouldn't mind an episode about Hagita and bakery girl (forget her name)

Weird that the letters say different things. Naho and Suwa were told to stop Kakeru from competing, while the other girls were obviously told to keep him competing, but make sure they would join him so it would become a happy memory instead of a bad one. Guess they didn't coordinate or write them together, wonder why that is.

Always suspected the other friends would get letters. I mean, since they all carried regret that they couldn't save Kakeru then why depend only on Naho and Suwa?

Anyways, sometimes I really get annoyed by Naho. Come on, wasn't it obvious girl? Somehow I believe she burned some flags and Kakeru is again on track to a dead end.

Damn, this show continues to be great both aestetically as well as story wise. The past two episodes have really band the friendgroup together and now the very dense Naho has all of them to rely on since they all got letters. It's not all on Suwa.... Excellent stuff throughout, but man, Naho, c'mon girl, your smarter than that, lol.

A few minutes into Episode 8, Kakeru fainted. So
he's going to die anyway, just surrounded by friends and happy?

Not sure if I can take that.

Yeah, I think he'll still get ran over just not by suicide.

Sick, sick, sick individuals you guys are!!

He will not. He will live a very happy life!

BTW, since those are not actual spoilers, no tags are needed. The only time spoiler tags are needed in the official show OT's is if you were speaking specifically about future events that are confirmed to happen in the source material...

I was more going for the spoiler tag if my speculation was correct. I don't want that to happen, but it would be in-line with a lot of time travel fiction. Can't change the destination, just the journey. Would be a fitting, bittersweet ending. Which I 100% hope doesn't come to pass!

Never said I wanted that to happen. Just the feeling I get. It's foreshadowing something.

No worries, open speculation is allowed as long as it's not based from reading the Manga, lol.

I know what you mean, the tone jumps at times from that feeling of despair that Naho feels, to that glimmer of hope when they can get through to him and Kakeru smiles (which they even admit appears false at times).

Didn't even know there was a manga (though that should've been obvious)! Looks like it finished, do we know if the anime is going to adapt the whole thing?

Been holding of on the manga until the show is done, it is on Crunchyroll as well, been pretty hard to not read ahead of the show, but I will do my best.
