Nice! Can't wait to try and give the characters cat ears.

Wasn't there something important about the difficulty options? Can't remember... Oh well, you did great with the information we were given.

I wasn't too sure on those so, I didn't want to misinform.
It was something like, certain difficulties make the game last longer (ex: time goes by slower), others make it faster (by giving more exp and such).
Not sure, I'll add that info in after the game is out though.

I remember first hearing about the original PSX game from Nick Rox like 5 years ago, then watching with dismay as the PSP remake was announced, released, and passed over, then being elated at news that a sequel was announced, then following its progress over the years. Basically everything about the premise and art has me hooked and I'm really rooting for this game, it's the kind of RPG release that's practically unheard of these days. It's sad that it's being dumped on to PSN like a contractual obligation or something but at least it made it's way over and I'm hoping it ends up being something special.

is the game itself "timed", like say persona, or can you just keep repeating cycles of family members forever? Like do you have to worry about doing things wrong?

You can keep on going forever. Though you may reach a point where you have the best gear, stats, and such. That means it's time to go take on the final boss.

Ah, for the fellow bearded chaps who plan to use the camera's facial recognition to create the first character: at least on the JP demo it worked like shit with beards, completely ignoring them and making your face smaller by taking that your head ended where your beard began. Giving it a try could be funny, of course.

I'm playing way to many RPGs right now, but...

Definitely gonna grab this for the incredible price of $20. I just might not play it right away.

Really been looking forward to this! Gorgeous graphics and it's really cheap, so I can't possibly pass it up. Excited for tomorrow.

Debating whether or not to get this right away. There's so many games for me to get this year, but I might just get this to support it. I wish there was a retail release, but this is better than nothing and especially at that price.

This game looks interesting and I will buy it simply because of the art. The only problem I could see with this game is the age thing. I really hate games with a time limit but maybe I just need to grow up and actually try one and then maybe I can finally go back to beat Valkyrie Profile and get over time limit thing.

I wish Sony remade the first one too. They have localized tons of stuff in 90s but snubbed the prequel. One of the best first party Sony JRPG's.

So many good Vita games tomorrow. Gonna pick this up for sure.

I was gonna wait a bit but now there's time sensitive DLC. Not my favorite practice. :/

I realized I wanted that game since the first time I saw the screenshots, and then Sony kept not announcing it, so I nearly forgot about it. I should probably go and download it today.

Take it with a grain of salt, but it looks like it got 2 stars on Amazon. No idea if that is some Tales of Zestria(sp) backlash, or people generally didn't like it.
It's similar to the ToZ backlash. Fans who played the first game didn't like a certain change in this one. (This is Oreshika 2 in Japan).
Didn't want to reference this in the op since it may lead to spoilers but, it shouldn't be a problem here really since we never got the first game.

Works for me. Watching some Youtube videos convinced me on getting the game at some point. March is a packed month though, so I may be getting it some time down the line.

Amazon.jp reviewers has gone crazy lately. They downvoted Freedom Wars for no reason too.

Famitsu gave Oreshika 36/40. I trust Famitsu, I haven't seen a single Famitsu game review that I don't agree with.

I'm very intrigued by this game, I find it incredibly unique. And while I don't mind the dungeon crawling, does anyone know what else you can explore? Are there towns?

The Amazon.jp reviewers slammed Freedom Wars because they felt the game had balance issues. Even though it is a good game the game does have some weird balance issues. Melee combat always felt like a guaranteed way to get yourself killed quickly.

The reason why Amazon.jp reviewers slammed Oreshika 2 is for story reasons, but it's also in spoiler territory. Tales of Zestria I think went through a similar thing where the fans weren't exactly happy with something story related involving a certain specific character. My friend told me what it was, and oh man I get why they're upset.

Famitsu hands out high scores like free cupcakes. They also gave Jojo Allstar Battle a perfect score. Which I STRONGLY disagree with.

This game already looked awesome, but this OT has really got me on the fence (i need to save money vs. I need this game).

Can someone who has played it explain this 'planning' screenshot in the OP? I'm extremely intrigued by it and the answer could force a buy:

I've only played the demo but, it should be the same in the full game I'm assuming.-- The game advances one month at a time, so you have to decide and plan ahead about what you're going to do during that month. You can set the plan to "random" though if you have no idea what you should do and Kōchin, the girl you see there, will decide for you.
At that price i guess i'm gonna& get it to try it !

Ah my free time ...

I suppose this game is VITA TV compatible ?

It does indeed, it's been confirmed in the english playstation blogs that it does work as well.
edit; found it

As a huge fan of the original game and even more so the PSP remake, I'll admit I'm actually somewhat trepidatious myself about how that matter changes up the chemistry of the whole affair because that first game really does have its narrative set up to be pretty player-driven, if mainly in terms of how you get to the preset next point, rather than writing it outright. It's hard to articulate why since you can only play it in Japanese (though I'd love to do a translation patch of the PSP game one day), but that game has a very special mix of gameplay mechanics and narrative chops that I really admire and has made it one of my personal favorites.

At the same time, I do agree that they're probably issues that will sting a lot less if you're a Western player going into this game as your entry point. I don't think it 100 percent guarantees that they won't rub some people the wrong way if those issues are as strong as some Japanese players feel they are (there were some well-reasoned Amazon reviews among the hyperbole, believe it or not), as they do, if not undermine parts of the series' premise outright, then they potentially change up how strongly parts of it are implemented at the very least. It's hard to say.

I'll almost certainly finally pick up this game at some point, especially for $20, as a show of support for the series in general. I have my trepidations, but am also ultimately the type of person that can usually enjoy a game for what it is, rather than isn't. I'll always have that first game to go back and enjoy if I don't take to this one as much; I'm not the type that feels like my love of any game is particularly tainted if a sequel isn't everything I hoped for. Shouji Masuda's games don't come out in English very often at all, so to see this localization happen at all is something pretty special. Very curious to see how you all take to his brand of writing and game design and whether you enjoy it in English for the same reasons I do in Japanese. The localization seems like it's at least solid work, like I'd expect out of Sony, so one can hope.

Very exciting to finally be able to actually talk about this series somewhat in English with other folks online, though! Not used to having that actually happen with games that seem like locks for Japanese exclusivity. c:

I predict that I will be crying all the time because of that whole 2 years thing. I get attached to characters so badly.

So I guess I'll get this since I've been waiting for it for so long, bad timing with MonHun 4U just out a few weeks ago though :(

I'm so tempted to buy this, what did j-GAFers ultimately feel about this game? I know there's a complaint about how unbalanced one of the characters was, but is the base game decent? Story OK? World hold up?

Thanks, interesting. Based on that description, hard to tell, but I think that sounds awesome.

It's hard to tell from descriptions and screenshots, but this game sounds straight up amazing. I hope the mechanics even come close to matching the version of the game i have in my head.
