Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition releasing March 11th on XB1/W10

It sounds like I waited to buy Ori for a definitive version that's exclusive to the W10 store.

I'm either buying at Ukraine prices or going for vanilla Ori on Steam if that's the case.

Guys, calm down, OF COURSE we are also releasing the Definitive Edition on STEAM as well :)

It'll be available on March 11th for Xbox One, Windows 10 and STEAM. And if you already bought the original version of Ori and the Blind Forest on any platform, you'll be able to buy this version for a small upgrade fee.

.

Alright, thanks Moon Studios. With some dumb shit MS is pulling I'm always getting worried.

Slain, Ori and Dark Souls is gonna make an impressive 2 months.

Is there going to be a physical version for this or no?

Will buy it either way but I would prefer physical.

Maybe?

Also, since we constantly get asked about a retail release and merchandise (plushies, shirts, statues, etc.), we'll have news about that soon as well. Nothing's set in stone just yet, but we're trying to make it all work. We're super humbled by how you guys responded to Ori, so I hope with this release and the stuff we have planned we'll make you all happy! :)

I for one would buy physical straight away - would love to see Ori art on my shelf with my other games :)

First off, congratulations! I am stoked you don't even know it.

A question for you: Can you talk about how the DLC and expanded world is implemented? I am curious if the experience is in any way different for someone who has beaten the base game, if you will, vs someone starting fresh and anew. Do the new locations open up after the events of the last year's game or are they areas that can be explored as soon as you start a new game?

Black Root Burrows is split into 2 parts - One part can be accessed early on, another part can only be accessed later in the game. The cool thing is that both parts come with a whole new ability that you can use throughout the game, so it has a bit of a Sonic and Knuckles feel to it.

I'm not gonna spoil anything here, but there's also more story content in the DE that's mostly about Naru. We felt like we wanted to give a bit of background on her character and I can't wait to see what you guys make of it :)

To clear up why there's a DE exactly a year after the original release, it's simple: We god tons of mails about making DLC. So we thought that might be a cool option, but Ori being a Metroidvania, it didn't feel right to just add more levels in a separate menu item. No, instead we thought it'd be great to enhance the world, add more abilities and story and add the new DLC content directly within the world you've already played through. Because of that, you can play through the game in new ways, since you'll gain new abilities and extras that you can then make use of in the rest of the game - We felt that that was a much better way of doing DLC than just making a separate pack with more stuff that wasn't connected to the original game in any way :)

I'm excited we're getting so close and that you guys can check out what we did - We just also put almost an hour of making of content into the game, so for people who're excited to learn more about our prototyping process, ideas we had, etc., there's just a lot of stuff in there :)

Thank you for the update sir! I will be purchasing the upgrade day one on Steam!

I'll wait a bit with playing it then. First was planning at starting it tomorrow or so.

Hoping the new content is as good as the old content.

Fast travel is huge. Having to travel back and forth was a chore across large distances.

Also, is that one dungeon that can lock you out of 100% also fixed? Really bummed when you triggered a sequence and there's no turning back to complete that dungeon.

@Steverulez
I've already updated my post (^_^)

P.S. There's no Steam page for the DE version yet. I hope it will be available this week along with pre-order and pre-load.

I will gladly pay the upgrade fee to be able to finally escape that sequence.

Haha, if that sequence is too difficult for you, you can use the dynamic difficulty switching we implemented: You can change difficulty modes within the game at any point now :)

In general, I must have read every single NeoGAF post about Ori and we collected all the feedback we could find and tried to make sure we address absolutely everything. If you pointed out something in your review or in a Youtube video that you didn't like about the original game, chances are we went in and did something about it. And that's just the side-stuff we did, the main part of the work was adding all the DLC content, but we thought if we already release a new SKU, we can just as well address every single little complaint people voiced.

You guys have no idea how much we appreciate your support - it allows us to make new games and better stuff. And that's our goal, we want to make the best games out there and surprise you guys with super high quality and games that come from the heart. So thank you guys for the support - I hope the Definitive Edition will put a smile in your faces :)

Complete disagree - I enjoyed travelling back and forth, visiting areas where I was low skilled before but could now move in a different way etc. The game is far too gorgeous to use a fast travel mode!

Yes, you can completely backtrack to every single area in the game at any point now. You can warp form any Spirit Well to any other that you've already discovered as well, so if you're stuck somewhere or something feels to difficult, you can always warp back to the overworld and explore and level up before you come back to try it again. Full Backtracking Support was easily the single biggest complaint we heard and obviously we wanted to fix that for the Definitive Edition :)

excellent, I'm in. one of my fave games last year.

Give us a bit of time - We're still making these games essentially from our bedrooms and sometimes these administrative tasks take a bit of time :)

So glad to see all the excitement here - We put another year of work into the Definitive Edition to ensure that the DLC is up to our standards and that we addressed every single complaint people had about this or that.

What also hasn't been mentioned is that we now also fully support 21:9 aspect ratios... so if you have one of these sweet ultra-wide monitors, we actually went in and adjusted the set dressing of every single level in the game to support that aspect ratio. I know there were 21:9 hacks out there, but they weren't perfect and we wanted to support that in the way it should be done :)

Will Ori on Steam transform into the DE or is it a separate game?

It'll show up in your library as a separate title, similar to how the Souls series are separate ttles. We didn't want people who played the original to not be able to play it anymore, so if you own the original and upgrade, you'll now own both versions of Ori :)

Sorry if this has been asked already, but can my game save from the original transfer to this on Steam? Or do I need to restart the game?

I'd love to play the new content, and don't mind paying a small fee, but I'm not playing the entire game again.

@thomasmahler
I liked the original game and I've zero complaints about it (no kidding). The game was perfect for me last year and it most definitely will be this year too with new features. I just can't wait!

Anybody know if they will be adding any new soundtracks? I loved the music on the original.

Thankyou! The new tracks will be released the same day as the game.

Additionally in the release we'll be including all of the tracks that didn't make it onto the soundtrack album of the original game for the soundtrack 'completionists' out there. (Though it's likely I will probably forget something, there are so many cues in the game!)

W-Well, i'm SO glad i didn't bough that since the beginning then !

I HATE having a definitive Edition on solo game i already played (multiplayer game is... another story)

I wonder how many of you guys will actually try to conquer One Life Mode. That mode is exactly what it says: You only have a single chance to make it through the entire game. Die once and you start right at the beginning of Ori's journey. I can't wait to see people screaming in agony on Youtube as they try to make it through and slip up in the last dungeon, hahaha :D

If you're the kinda person who enjoys playing Hardcore characters in Diablo, this mode is for you :)

On the other side, if Ori was a bit too brutal for you at times, you can switch to Easy difficulty at any time. And obviously, you can also switch back to Normal once you feel more comfortable with the challenges presented :)
