With the Blu-Ray release in tow, this should be coming to Netflix soon, right? I really want to check this show out without having to go through the hassle of torrents.

And the Blu-Ray doesn't offer that option? :p

I expect BBC America will be holding onto the streaming rights for a bit, at least, to give the DVD/Blu-Ray some time in the market. But I think it'll show up eventually.

The Season 1 DVD and blu-ray are out tomorrow.

I wish more shows had a quick turnaround like this on their season sets coming out. What is the main reason for waiting until the new season is about to start up to release DVD sets? Does it double as marketing for the new season or something?

Yup. It lets them market the new season and the dvd set at the same time.

That makes sense. I sometimes wonder if releasing them earlier would allow more people to catch up and then watch the new season.
I think they'd be best off making that decision on a show by show basis. If something has a good buzz about it (e.g. Orphan Black), it doesn't seem like a bad idea to get the dvds out early. I suppose part of the problem is that they have to make some of these decisions way in advance - keep in mind that the announcement about Orphan Black game right after the premiere of the show. Also, this matters less and less as we transition over to digital content delivery and more people are watching on demand or via services like iTunes.

Yeah all true. Again I was just sort of wondering... aloud... in a forum post. Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to be able to get my sets as soon as possible too!

The show really picks up after the first few episodes. I'm kind of surprised that she didn't get nominated after winning the critic's choice awards or whichever one she won. THen again, I'm not.

Hopefully Orphan Black will be a thing by next season and Tat will get the recognition she deserves. Maybe Jordan Gavaris too, because why not.
