OT needs to start a Music Magazine.

I stopped listening to the radio a long time ago, started buying cds and almost all of them ive loved, and were recommended on this forum. mainstream suxxors!

I really don't buy a lot thanks to this forum, quite honestly. There's only a handful of people here I feel my tastes mesh with... however, it could be quite interesting. There's some very intelligent music fans here.

I really think it should be named MAINSTREAM SUXXORS. Or maybe a Z at the end of suxxors could work as well. It might help to bring in the 18-35 male population.

A website music magazine type thing would be pretty cool. I don't know if the musical tastes around here are really diverse enough to be more than an indie-rock type thing though.

Actually the music taste here are extremely diverse and I think if this place were to do a Music site it would be one of the best on the net.

I suggested this like a year ago. Actually, it was while I was looking into financing a printing press. Nobody paid attention to my idea. Ingrates. Or maybe somebody did pay attention. I was taking a lot of sedatives and painkillers for about a half-dozen potentially imagined ailments. If that's the case, then, er: non-ingrates.

i run my own server out of new york, its just a matter of paying 6$ a year for the domain and not using up my 200gig of spare bandwidth if anyone really wants to do this.

Semjaza: How is the Eagles of Death Metal debut? Is it rockin? On a scale of 1-10, how heavy are the songs?

Probot heavy. Or Queens of the Stone Age heavy? Either one works for me. Just curious.

ive started TWO "reccommend me new music" threads, and i tried out everything that was posted in both threads and didnt like ANY of them.

I'd do it.

Of course, I find it funny that people call GAF OT an aural elitist culture, when, by internet standards, it is actually pretty tame.

I'd be up for editing and proofreading other peoples' work. I'd be up for contributing, as well, but I write a lot the way it is, so I can't make any commitments for lots and lots of material, at least as of right now.

So if anybody seriously wanted to do this, YOU HAVE MY SWORD.

EDIT:

Agreed. I couldn't even get a Gorgoroth conversation started the other day.

I'd put it more with QotSA. Despite the name, there's no "death metal" to be found. It's just a great rock album.

Excellent. I was going to pick it up today, but I was short of the fundage. Woe is me. ='(

I read in an interview that they don't call themselves "Eagles of Death Metal" in the sense that they are the majestic and powerful bird of death metal, but that they are the Don Henley band of death metal.

I'm willing to reg the domain name, host the site and take care of all the administrative details, if no one minds. Here's what I'm going to need, though. People who are interested, we need to get a meeting together on IRC, AIM or some type of client. Those who are interested, shoot me an email with a time your schedule for the next week, as well as basic experience, and ideas for the site. Before the meeting I'll then be able to provide some type of structure to it so we could streamline what we'd want to do. Email is: agentdormer@gmail.com. Also, you can always contact me on #ga and AIM: dormer108.

Some things to think about in terms of site:
Content management - how exactly are we going to gauge our content? It has been mentioned in the thread that people want to take down Pitchfork, so keep stuff like that in mind.
Coding - I'm not talented with PHP or web design, but I know that many people on our forums have some talents. These people would need to be willing to devote sometime to the initial shaping of this site.
Format - We'd also need to look into the format of the site - do we want standard reviews? Scoring scale? Are we doing news? What exactly do we want!?

These are just some suggestions, and I'd love to hear everyone's opinions. Also, I'm not trying to steal anyone's idea, just trying to structure it so it can get beyond a thread in the forums.

Yo! I work in a cd shoppe and get advance copies of all sorts of different scheisse quite often. I'd prefer to review downtempo/dancier stuff, but could contribute to the general all around mayhem.

One quick note, though- don't let Diablos anywhere NEAR a review of any Corgan project. I don't want to hurt Music Age's fledgling rep by having him spurt gallons of joy juice all over Billy's bald pate.

I know people who think Sonic Youth is too mainstream for them, so yeah, GA is definitely tame by those standards. Most of the stuff mentioned here- at least by indie standards- are well known acts.

Didn't all the "obscure" indie band name dropping annoy MAF at one time? What happened to the Sarah Brightman appreciating MAF that we all used to know and love.

Here's the deal. I don't want to do reviews. They're too embarassing. I would be up for writing articles and features. As a matter of fact, I think scored reviews are a bad idea all around. Editorial content, news content, features, etc. . .I'm in. As a proofreader, I'm in. I don't want to do reviews, though.

I was thinking like we could have a certain album to "review" planned ahead of time and then we can have a sort of "chat" discussing it. Not sure how else we could do it but I think it would get tedious to do the typical write review rate it 1-10 shtick.
