Overgrowth - Weird combat game made by some guy for PC

It was also mentioned in their blog that if you preorder the game now(so you can play all the alpha updates) it will carry over to the eventual steam release.

OUT IN 2020

Yeah, that's why I'm not too hyped for this. I feel like this guy has a pretty big flaw as a developer, and that's not knowing when to quit. He's got a pretty killer combat system. He needs to make a game for it now, but that's probably not going to happen any time soon. So much thought is going into the combat, and I wonder how important the subtleties will actually be.... but that's impossible to gauge without an actual game. I'd love to see the game come out one day, though. I'm afraid the every other aspect of the game will either get glossed over... or just as heavily developed as the combat. Both would be bad, and the latter would mean the game really would never release.

Granted, I don't watch these development updates too closely, so it's possible that I've just put my foot in my mouth in some way. This guy really needs to hire one or two additional developers.

actually you can put two bunnies on the map and enjoy Mortal Kombat with your friend.

Or put some AI there and fight them.

I plan to buy it at the end of the year.

Combat looks fantastic, however im not a fan of the rabbits.. Hmm what to do, hopefully modders can it in and change the player models. Some kind of 3D Mugen based on this engine would be amazing

That looks quite... john carterish.

Would be amusing if Disney bought this guy out and converted the assets to a john carter universe.

Would it have more or less appeal I wonder...

I wouldn't at all trust big corporate to keep true to the essence of what this game is about though.

Honestly for me the rabbits make perfect sense from a physical ability standpoint. Fits well in the game.

Also I really love just how big that field is.

Oh cool, didn't know there was a thread for this. Been following it for years, love all the updates. Dude has got some great dry wit.

The campaign is why I preordered ages ago. All the features are nice, but I too hope to see something more structured in the near future.

Same here, really do hope something amazing comes from it. The main guy responsible is a master, it really has some of the most unique (as well as unique LOOKING) combat I've seen. Hope the campaign is well-thought out, can only imagine how amazing it would be...

Has the guy who's making this game said anything about doing a Kickstarter for it? The game looks interesting enough, that it may do well on Kickstarter.

He hasn't said anything about kickstarter. I doubt he'll use it since, unless I'm mistaken, the game's already funded.

You mean being funded by pre-orders? He can still make a Kickstarter campaign even if he's currently making the game like or has pre-orders. Crate Entertainment the developers of Grim Dawn is going to make a Kickstarter campaign soon, even though they have pre-orders up on their site which is used to help fund the game.

People need to relax with all the, "if it finishes stuff." Its one guy doing the programming on a game that looks AAA level in terms of what they are doing. It surpasses a lot of games technically that have 100+ people working on them. Of course its gonna take time.

Could use some more weapon clashes. Even most Bushido Blade matches lasted more than a few seconds. Otherwise, it's looking good.

I've been watching some vids on this and man there are aspects of it that just look fantastic. The jumping and fighting physics mixed with ragdoll states are so smooth.

This guy could make a CRAZY wuxia style game. The multiplayer footage of the rabbits jumping around in that field gets my mind racing with possibilities.

This is odd and sort of impressive. What type of game is he going for though? Arena style combat? RPG? Action/adventure?

I am not quite sure, but watching this come together has been very cool. Even if he just makes an open world beat em up the animation would make it something special.

The finished game will have a campaign with various missions and objectives, so action-adventure is probably the best descriptor. I think of it kind of like Assassin's Creed with interactivity and game mechanics in place of most of the canned animations.

If it's anything like the original Lugaru then it'll be very open maps with objectives, but a linear, level-by-level structure following some kind of narrative.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I downloaded the latest alpha... Is there anything to do in this game yet, or just test out the moves against that one enemy? I only tried it for a few mins but couldn't even figure out how to do any attack whatsoever, lol, left and right click just had a kind of readying animation for a split second then nothing. Well, I hope we'll see some game design developments soon.

I also got Kenshi and that seems to be equally devoid of gameplay at this moment. I also can't actually try it out much because my mouse wheel is broken and the camera requires it, you can't remap it yet. By the way, that one's not action at all, it's all clicky click RPGlike stuff, contrary to popular belief likening it to Mount&Blade with post apoc samurais.

I'm kind of disappointed but still have faith both projects will become amazing at some point, it's quite early still (apparently).

Though the disappointment still stopped me from pulling the trigger and getting Miner Wars early too, heh.
