Overwatch |OT10| That'll do pig, that'll do

So, out of curiousity, how many games does it take everyone on average to get their 3 arcade boxes? Last week it took 58 games, and starting today I'm already roughly 13 losses to 3 wins, and stuff like that seems to norm for me.

58? Goddamn, even on my worst week including the 1v1 special box it took me 25 games max.

Average week is like 15 games.

Wow usually just takes me a couple hours, 20-25 games, to get them.

I pretty much only play 6v6 elimination. 58 wins is way too time to get those loot boxes.

LEAVE D.VA ALONE!

I'm a D.Va main. I don't say this out of spite for her, but out of love. She's a big girl, she can handle it and more.

In other news, I saved an entire game today by going Genji. I've been worthless with him the last few months. One small change in control scheme, and it don't matter that the enemy team has Zarya and Winston even, I tear them up. First I stop a roll on Defense, then I use a dragonblade to win on attack.

It feels really great to suck at a character for a while and then have games like this :) I actually kind of regret not recording the match now. Would have submitted here for feedback on how to further improve.

I honestly don't know what I should have done then.

My spirit was completely broken.

I don't know what you should have done, but I've felt that way exactly before. Only game out of 500+ I've left purposefully, because I just couldn't handle playing the game at that point. You could say that it wasn't fair to the other teammates but you also could say those other teammates should have spoken up when it's that bad. Muting at that point doesn't exactly make you feel like the game is worth playing.

I've been trying to speak up more in defense of people being harassed, but I'm finding it hard. In moba's i did it all the time, but it's somehow easier when it's always text chat and never voice chat.

Remember that one game on Lijiang Tower where you played Genji for shits and gigs and got a quintuple kill with dragonblade? It was a few months ago so no worries if you don't recall

I think I got grouped up tonight with the three stack I told to stop talking every second last night. Pretty sure. Last time I left team chat, this time I stayed, I think I was grumpier last night. We won both games anyways, I'm on a 10-1 hot streak and it doesn't even matter because I still haven't made up what I lost in the SR purge.

Yeah, that was a hype moment, but I can't take all the credit for that one. I got 1 or 2, then Mercy foolishly rezzed, then our Zarya shot a grav at them and that's when I ulted and it was easy pickings. In a lot of ways, I just got lucky with that one.

Here, I actually made really crucial plays that I think really turned the tide of what seemed to be a lost match, so I'm much happier about my personal performance in that game. We were getting rolled with me as Torb and so I went Genji and that stopped them dead, even though they had a Zarya (and later Winston). Putting the dash on L1 and reflect on X (it was the other way around before) has made all the difference in the world playing him the last few days.

Had the sweetest run of games tonight. 8 win streak. It was after the group I played with finally decided that they aren't as good DPS as they thought they were and stuck to healing and tanking the entire night lol. Few of em went up to plat. Still stuck in low diamond tho.

Also forgot how long matches can last when it goes back and forth the entire time. Each one was at least 15 minutes to just over 20.

So, is there any word on what's on the horizon for the game's balancing?

I know Mercy is talked about a lot, is there a plan to tweak her ult some more? Feels like heroes are generally accepted to be balanced, except for Roadhog and Mercy who seem most criticized.

They should lower the max height pharah can go to give other players a chance. Even a good soldier or mcree seems to have a bitch of a time killing pharah in my experience and a good pharah always leads to fights. It's so fuckin annoying listening to these people I let go dps bitch about it constantly.

Just making Mercy's res charge up longer would improve my enjoyment of comp drastically. Yesterday I had an enemy Mercy pull off a res literally within 90 seconds of the game starting, ridiculous.

Mmm. I'm realising that more of a problem with DPS heroes, I have a irritating issue with how to tackle some maps. The worst offenders for me are (Still QP):

- Oasis (Defense): Taking the first control point, the team gets spaced out. If you go to the centre, you get shot from every direction. Flankers everywhere. As Mercy it's impossible to fly away because of everybody being so apart and dying. The second control point can be even worse.

- Temple of Anubis: Literally 99% of the times I play this map I do it as a backfill when they are already losing, so I am starting to see a pattern with leavers. Even with a tank protecting the main entrance, a flanker from the side can always make us break the formation.

- Hollywood (escorting): Upon starting is usually the worst part. Team too far away out, and incredibly wide space to get shot from everywhere with a long distance to cover. Even if we get a tank, nobody seems to stay behind him and he gets shot down fast.

no "good" player has any trouble killing a phara. shes completely useless without a mercy pocketing her

Grumpy Owzers? Don't think I ever encountered that guy.

Stacked up with two younger kids last night. They were going hard in the paint. One of the kids was shot calling as mercy and had us running like a well oiled machine.

Tip of the cap to you friend.

Mercy players or even mains for that matter should always do this. You're practically a 5v6 for the team. So assist your team in whatever ways you can.

As an aside I want to say that this is the kind of thing that leads us to many ill advised Genji mains, an ult that can be so potent it can create the illusion of having played well...

so close to gold on Xbox. 1977SR. I've been on a pretty good win streak with the limited play time I have. Almost afraid to play in case I lose lol :(

Quite honestly, the game is quite accessible. Even if you don't have much experience with playing First-Person Shooters, there are a solid 25 heroes to choose from, and the game has a tutorial that can show you the ropes. Even if you don't want to touch Quick Play, there is a Player VS. A.I. mode that can get your feet wet until you feel more comfortable with the games mechanics.

Honestly, I’d suggest starting with support types before graduating onto more offensive characters, because support heroes can contribute while keeping some distance from the action. This is a good way to familiarize yourself with map layout, and to safely observe how other characters play/interact with each other without having to repeatedly die over and over again.

There is also a healthy community of PS4 users on the OT, so feel free to ask them if you could join with them.

Just want to express my thanks to you for the answer. I think I'm going to hold onto the game then and take your advice and play Support at least initially (or familiarise myself with the Player Vs AI mode). I suppose my fear was only that it would be a Warhawk-like situation, where it was very easy to 'get into' the game at release, but after a year or two it would have been very challenging for a beginner simply because all that remained were veterans of the game who'd put in hundreds of hours already, but it's good to hear that isn't necessarily just the case and it is still pretty welcoming to somebody who hasn't played yet. Thanks!

New players are put against new players. You don't even join games in progress until level 25 iirc. After that there is skill based matchmaking.

Why, how else does one choose a main?

Mercy is generally a poor shotcaller since she has no idea how much health enemies have. Yes, she can extrapolate based on what your team is doing but it's a lot easier for Lucio and Zen to say, with certaintity, that a target is low.

Anyone know a good time of day to play PS4 competitive? Just tried three matches in a row and got steam rolled in all three. It was like JV vs. the Patriots.

I'm not only talking about her communicating how low people are. I get that she has to assume how low people are, though there are other ways of a Mercy player communicating to their team. Calling out things such as roadhog not having hook, who to target, discord on [hero], etc.

Holy hell. I finally get all the fuss about 'elo (?) hell' and the atrocious players at lower levels. Stopped playing for a while again and decayed to somewhere around 3200. Decided to not give a shit anymore and practice characters I'm not very good at such as Genji and Sombra while at this level anyway. Dropped more because I suck at those characters lol. Now I'm around 3100ish and I want to move up again to get in some exciting matches but these team comps are just utterly insane. Almost every match it's 3-4 DPS players with either a 1 tank or 1 healer. Just now I had to carry a Control game with 0 healers. How is that a thing?

In all honesty I don't switch all that often to a healer or tank at this level either since I used to play top 500 Tracer and me playing Tracer at this level is a huge asset. I'm sure people use that same reasoning not to switch.

Quality of games improves dramatically at the 3500 SR mark.

When you wipe out 4 people on the last couple seconds on attack as Hanzo only to be killed by the torb turret, lol. sigh

Wait you told people to stop talking?

What is your SR? What was it after the purge?

The three were nonstop talking about their friend throwing/being bad/random non-useful game stuff since they initially picked Ana.

I went from 3200s to 2800s during the great SR purge, now I'm back to 3070 like it matters. I've been playing wellish but I'm sure my 10-1 streak will be met by another 3-9 soon.

Who are these people you are grouped with who have replaced me?
