Random rant:

As a former Symmetra main, I couldn't see how sinfully boring, unrewarding, and unappreciated this character is. Playing other supports like Lucio, Ana and Zen (even Mercy) makes Symmetra just feel rushed and poorly thought out as a character to me, regardless if you think she is good or bad balance wise.

It's hard to get kills with her vs. experienced players, and new players hate her because they don't understand how to counter her. Her playstyle is extremely static and unsatisfying, other "no aim" heroes like Winston and Mercy have other aspects to their kit which makes their "no aim" weapon feel satisfying. Winston can leap onto people and smack people with his ult, Mercy can fly around the map, etc. Symmetra just has a shield to protect herself and and turrets, these don't really make her base weapon fun to play with.

Her turrets are a neat part of her kit, it allows for all sorts of crazy and unique ways to play her. But they get destroyed so easily, whether it be by the most popular hero in the game right now (Winston), destroying your setup instantly with his branching "no aim" weapon, or by random splash damage from rockets or grenades or spray that wasn't even intended to destroy them.

Then you have all the random things. Shield Generator stats are still not calculated at all, generator uptime, shield generated during its duration, no cards represent how much shield generator saved your game. Sombra gets to have her healthpacks showed to the team through walls to better help them play with a Sombra, but Symmetra is an original hero in Overwatch, been here since the beginning, but the dev team can't see how beneficial it could be to Sym players to have their turrets/ult visible to the team through walls, or a blue aura like Lucios on the ground to show the shield gen range. She still has random bugs, like her beam locking on to friendly Mei walls.

She hasn't been used in a pro tournament since last year (?), and her low usage overall should really tell Blizzard how weak she is gameplay wise, and how boring it is to play her. But here we are a year after the game has been released and while an attempt was made to fix her, she still is just there compared to rest of the heroes IMO. She is treated like the red headed step child of the cast despite Blizzard saying she was one of their most "beloved" heroes.

I really love Symmetra character design wise, but gameplay wise I'm not feeling her like I used to. Really wish they were more quick to "fix" her.

Symmetra is fine and I dont think pro players should be indicative of balance

Her turrets serve to massively distract and build u meter super fast and should be placed in chokepoints where the enemy is engaging your team

I find her primary takes zero skill and is incredibly forgiving around corners... dva and genji are useless against a sneaking symmetra

I strongly enjoy playing her but dislike having her on the enemy team as she is easily the most annoying opponent next to a really good tracer

Yup. Nothing pisses me off more than a good Symm or good Tracer.

Symmetra can be an absolute monster if you're on an uncommunicative team. Or just in QP atleast. It infuriates me how many times I'm playing a character that can't easily dive to take out the shield gen, but the heroes ideal for the task on my team refuse to do it.

I once had to dive into the enemy backline as Torbjorn to take it out. I had to DIVE as TORB! Somehow I managed it and then my teammates still let her build her ult up again. Criminy...

How many have all the achievements?

Im surely going to go insane chasing them but am slowly inching towards the plat

Problem, is that some of them are almost impossible to obtain after several character reworks. For example, 'The Path Is Closed'is almost impossible to get now, as the average Symmetra player doesn't stay on Symmetra long enough to put up so many teleporters, and if he/she does, they will probably be putting shield generators up. In the case for Reaper's "Waste Not, Want Not", it's much harder now that his Wraithform reloads his shotguns.

And good luck getting Winston's "Minesweeper" achievement, as it was only obtainable when Hero Stacking was a thing for Quick Play, & Symmetra is almost impossible to find.

Symmetra one-tricks are fairly common in GM. Her toolset scales well and there aren't really any indicators that suggest that she's unusable at high level ladder play.

Her SR gains are busted though, particularly for otps. The irony of this, however, is that the existence of high-sr Symm otps indicates pretty clearly that she does just fine at high sr ladder play since they have to win all that much more to maintain a high SR and, in the case of one tricks, do it on maps where her options are relatively limited.

Her usefulness is limited in pro play because she gets shut down by advanced coordination and her ults are particularly susceptible to flankers. But she's fine for comp.

I'm actually really interested to see how the Summer Games event plays out this year, as it'll be the first repeat of a seasonal even this year. Might give us an insight as to how Blizz will approach returning seasonal events.

I personally hope they spruce up a stage with some Summer Games decor. Maybe Ilios due to the Greece/Olympics connection.

Honestly though I'm more excited to see the Halloween 2017 event. I can see them doing a Junkenstein sequel set in the Black Forest - maybe a Bride of Junkenstein? Hopefully the original PvE is playable alongside whatever they come up with.

...also I hope that they make the organ rendition of the menu theme less grating after a while.

I'm still waiting for Monster Hunter McCree, along with a Lobisomem skin for Lucio.

But you brought up a good point. There are areas where they can improve for the Summer Games.

Hm....Zarya or Orisa for bride of Junkenstein? It needs to be someone big, so one of those.

I agree with you, but it can become messy when you are constantly harassed by Tracers and Genji's when you are tyring to take down the Pharah.

having trash teammates is no reason to nerf phara

Hi I'm a GM Pharah main on PC. Plenty of people have trouble killing Pharah.

no doubt. thats why i said good. i can out dps 99% of the community playing winston. doesnt mean winston needs a nerf

one of the diamonds in our duo que picked Reaper on Gibraltar attack. didnt switch to Soldier until the last five seconds. On defense our Lucio said he wasnt comfortable on Zen and was told to switch to what he was comfortable with. He switched off second healer to go Reaper with a steamroll following shortly. I fell like im being trolled. These matches today have been troll worthy. only the last one with a five stack was normal and then we had leaver for a couple of seconds. And dont get me started on the one with a Widow one trick/ 3 stack. I feel like you really have to grind in comp to really get anywhere

What's wrong with reaper on Gibraltar? As you found out Reaper is the crowd favorite.

if the enemy has high ground what is a reaper gonna do. he cant 1 v 6 a competent team to get their either. if you were there we would have won but i dont think you are a Reaper main anymore

I find the high ground really hard to deal with as reaper on attack. It's just a map that really needs either long range or highly mobile characters to deal with it. 3rd point on attack, and defense is fine with reaper though.

I still don't have many map specific hero selections, but swapping my prefered reaper pick for a soldier on Gibraltar attack is one of the few I do.

no "good" player has any trouble killing a phara. shes completely useless without a mercy pocketing her

I'm top 500 on console and my main is pharah and other top 500 people, who I know use mouse and keyboard, still struggle against her.

Granted, it comes down more to team dynamic more than anything else, such as when the hitscan are getting dove on by Winston and Tracer in a dive comp, etc.

again, if youre getting swarmed by multiple people with no help, the problem is trash teammates, not phara needing a nerf. anyone is hard to deal with when youre already trying to fight off 2 other people

I don't think any of those replies actually read what I wrote. I wish she played differently, I am no longer finding her a fun hero to play as. She has bugs that have never been fixed, she has other issues in a competitive environment that limit her effectiveness that isn't strictly tied to balance (her ult and turrets not being visible through walls). How am I supposed to communicate to my team the whole crux of running a Sym, being her ultimate, if they are not in voice? What if I place a bad tele, which happens as Sym, and there is no comms and I can't tell my team to not take tele, which could be fixed by letting me scrap it before the team takes it? She is poorly thought out and feels like she is still in beta.

Her weapon being auto-aim is boring, and I really just want them to actually take that character back to square-1 and rebuild her.

O, I'm not saying she needs a nerf. She's fine where she is. Just saying that people struggle against her based on the fundamental mechanic, flight.

Looks like Diamond portraits coming too, for those with like 2000+ hours of gameplay.

I haven't seen anyone with a Platinum portrait that had more than 1 star, so it will be a while until I start seeing Diamond portrait players.

Weapon skins seem like something obvious that should have been in the game from the beginning, but whatever, I'm all about them.

Weapon skin are better than character skins just because you actually get to see it.

If they are unwilling to change Pharah such that everyone can realistically hit her, they need to revamp other heroes to achieve the same effect.

Example: Hitting Pharah with Junkrat grenades is nigh impossible. But what if your right click could pre-explode grenades as well, and their AoE was increased? Now Junkrat could potentially hit Pharah with more than a prayer on his side.

Maybe airborn heroes hit by Winston's body during his leap should get dragged down to the ground with him. =D

Let Reinhardt's melee swings reflect projectiles back at opponents (could be fun with rockets; other Reinhardt players could play ping pong against each other).

We need someone with the Pyro's airblast.
