I haven't played that much of Genji, but you could actually take that gameplay loop and make a singleplayer game.

You can do it for any of the characters. Honestly, if (when?) Blizzard makes a campaign game for Overwatch, it should be various chapters and stories featuring different characters with stages and bosses designed specifically to play into the unique aspects of each character.

I'm checking this game out. seems like the thread is turning a little negative and the honeymoon is over. Is it still worth picking up? Or is the competitive salt souring the comments now :p

Lol, its well worth it. This whole season will be a clusterfuck as they test things out and nerf/buff characters

This has been my dream game over the past few weeks playing Overwatch daily. I want that silly, nonsense, street-fighter-esque story.

It's been said before, but Overwatch is only good when playing with a full group. I haven't played solo since shortly after launch.

Groups haven't been any better in Comp for me. It's all good when you win a match or two, but lose a couple matches and people start having places they need to go and dinners to make. This mode just brings out the worst in people and I'm just getting really discouraged dropping rank like a stone and I can't buy a win no matter what I do. If I do win I go up 1/3 of a rank, but then lose the next one and lose 1/2. It's dumb.

I'm gonna just take the advice of that other poster that said they need to turn off the part of their brain that continues to launch this game and move on to other stuff. This isn't fun and I don't know why I'm putting myself through it.

Competitive Sudden death. We defended well so I'm sure we got this.

Coin flip, we defend for 2:15. Easy our comp was solid.

Two Lucios. Wait now what are you doing? WHY ARE YOU BOTH RUNNING OUT TO CAMP THEIR BASE!? Roadhog and Zarya follow them. No please stop.

10 seconds into the match me and my little Turret are the only ones left alive on team. 13 into the match we have lost, not a single person on their team died.

Full rank lost.

No. Done for today.

I'm done with this game, it's become more frustrating than fun. Last game two people quit in the first match and afterwards I lose half a freaking rank. I can't take it anymore this is horrible.

I have a real love/hate relationship with this game. I play every night and look forward to getting on then by the end of the night it devolves into frustration and disappointment. But somehow I'm still back on the next day all over again haha.

I still think the game is one of the best shooters in years.

I just am annoyed with Blizzard's implementation of competitive and annoyed at how dumb some players are. Still worth playing, especially if you group with GAF people.
Makes me wonder what consequences, if any, will show up once the Torb nerf hits consoles later this month. My bet is on it making it too easy for Attackers to win Assault Matches.
They've nerfed two of the best flanker counters (McCree and Torb). I expect a continually growing flanker hell until they rebalance things.

So after being placed 54 after my first 10 matches and then immediately going up to 55 after my first match. I've decided I'm gonna end on a high note and call it quits for competitive. After reading up on all the frustration in this thread, I'm gonna opt out while luck is still on my side lol

The thing is the vocal negative is not hate based, its more love based really.
A lot of us play this game daily

We come here to shoot the shit on how our day went. This thread is really is Overwatch Anonymous on what went right, what went wrong, why the hell do I get frustrated or enjoyment within a 30 minute time frame.

Ill tell you this much, if you have watched that Gameplay trailer which introduced most of the characters and went yeah I want to play such and such it really makes you go yeah this is what Ive expected.

The thing this game gets right are the little details the game. From the banter, team makeup which somehow work, the death screams (I fucking love these), the memes, waifu/husbando effect, the game is just fun.

Don't take our saltiness as a ploy of the game being just a flavor of the month FPS, we just love the game so much, that we want to be vocal to keep hoping this game keeps evolving. Destiny for me was the same, but its been so fucking stagnant, hoping this new expansion with leaving last gen behind, might reinvigorate the system, game play, community.

I think the ranking system may be over simplified. Feels like season 1 is a beta in everything but name.

Also losing progress faster than you gain it means eventually everyone will be dumped into a weird area that doesn't really measure their skill accurately based on the number.

Season 1 isn't beta, it probably isn't even pre-alpha. They admit that it will take SEVERAL seasons before it gets to the point where it is what they actually want. Unfortunately you can only improve it with real people playing in large volumes day after day.

Finishing off for today, played about 20-25 matches. A couple things I dislike...

- They say you're rated on your performance but you're not in the slightest. It's all whether your team wins, so get teamed up with some dummies, that's your rank gone. Which brings me on to the other point...

- The win/lose difference is crazy. Win and get a fraction towards the next level, lose and lose nearly the whole rank.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
If everyone is going down at the same rate (and they're not, but let's say they are), the system will still be fine, because rank is relative. There's no such thing as a "Rank 50 player", but a player who's "slightly worse than 51s, slightly better than 49s". And the thing is if everyone at 49, 50 and 51 go down, the relative measure remains the same.

Some games are super good.

Some games are super bad.

Some games are just a tease though. I've had like a 7 game streak of loss, loss, loss.....but almost every time it was super close. Which, if endured long enough, gets really annoying to see defeat snatched from the jaws of victory each goddamn time.

Except one game, which was suuuuuuuuuuper bad. It was a team of bastions, everyone refused to change, and I was mercy. Reinhardt was terrified of walking outside the base, and I sat on my ass while I watched, awe struck, as my team, two of whom were tanks, was terrified of leaving our own goddamn base.

This is starting to read like Overwatch Competitive mode is letting bad players poison the well for a lot of other players...I'm not level25, I don't think I'll ever try competitive mode by the sounds of it. #scrub4life

Yeah, I don't expect Competitive Mode to get really good until the third or fourth season, at the earliest. Right now it is still fun, provided you're in a good group, but things like Sudden Death and the difference in XP you get if you win or lose need to be fixed.

This is why I don't even wanna try ranked personally, especially about the point of not actually being rated on performance. If I need to get carried/I need to carry x amount of people and we lose all it means is your rank is going down. My/whoever is carrying's performance means absouleutly nothing because "Loss".

If you solo'd and screwed yourself, basically the only way to rank back is to group with friends you know play at your real level.

Otherwise if you solo its just a gamble on who has the worse team.

What's even crazier is if you get DCed, even if you rejoin the game in time, it will still count as a loss no matter what for that player.

So the best thing to do is to not touch this until season 3 or 4 to minimize rage?

this refers to your placement matches contributing toward your rating and appears to be true. someone who went 8-2 against worse players will place a lot lower than someone who went 8-2 against good ones.

the problem is that individual play doesn't matter after you get ranked.

I'd imagine a very real problem would be good players continually dropping rank because they're solo queing. So you'd have a bunch of 55-60 range players in the high 40's because them carrying means jack shit, so they will cause problems for the people who should actually be at that rank. Also all they need is queing into a few games with truly terrible teammates to keep their rank stagnant.

The last two games have left such a sour taste in my mouth. First game some scrub from the other team leaves about halfway through a long match so when we win I get fuck all comp points and the next game we lost on a bullshit overtime when my team are clearly on the objective. Fucking stupid game.

This is by far the biggest issue that needs to be fixed. It's absurd that you lose the same amount in ranking no matter what on a loss. Could be in a highly competitive back and forth match or a complete steamroll, it doesn't matter.

This is made worse when you add in the problems of Sudden Death and DCed = automatic loss.

New thing is players leaving as a **** YOU to the competetition to screw with their rank exp.

My question is why does ranked matchmaking put you up against much bigger or smaller rank teams? Hey Blizzard I can wait that one extra minute for a more close match. I don't like steamrolling or getting steamrolled, thanks.

I think they shoved this ranking system out a little too quick because they did not want to fall into the same problem that heroes of the storm had. That game just got leagues and stuff just recently, over a year after release. It had a crummy ranked system before that they had implemented for wayyyy too long and I think it hurt the game. While there is going to be some growing pains with this, at least there is something out there. I think Jeff and his team will get it right.

I cant believe youdont get any exp when the other team leaves. Seriously? Obviously we did something to cause that

Ive son 5 games in a row and hVent gained back the rank i lost in the loss before...

Slowly making my way down into the forties. Haven't seen a balanced match the entire weekend, pretty obvious at this point that personal rank doesn't mean shit when you solo queue, you're either going to be brought down or lifted up by your teammates and it's always going to be out of your control. At this point, it seems stupid to even display it like you're making progress in one way or the other, because you're probably playing on the same level regardless of what it says and it's never going to settle in one place because you're so reliant on your teammate's performance.

There should be a separate solo queue ranking similarly to Dota 2.
