Pach-Attack: E3 Nintendo Assumptions.

To the posters who „like“ Pachter; What on earth do you like?
He’s arrogant, ignorant and consistently wrong in his predictions. I find it utterly staggering that he’s given all this prominent exposure and attention.
I really, really don’t get it.
It’s exactly why gaming coverage is still a laughing stock compared to other industries.

He's a character. If he hates on Nintendo and gets publicity for it, what is he going to do the next time? You guessed it.

I don't really like Michael Pacher, he just never sat right with me. As someone who is always reading the news and trying to keep up with the latest and greatest he just comes off as someone working with misinformation and outdated information.

Majority of this whole video was him being annoyed that Nintendo changed their ways with E3. Who cares about the parties? A small amount of people got to attend these and the average person isn't going to care that you can't call your wife and tell her you're five feet away from some band. Sure for industry people this is a cool event but for those of us sitting at home year after year we're not going to get up in arms because of this. Sorry but something like this shouldn't be used to weigh in on Nintendo Direct.

Speaking of which I think he needs to check his numbers and the over all approach of Nintendo Direct. Sure there have been a few ones that didn't contain much but there have also been some pretty big ones announcing a slew of games and giving a good look at them at the same time. Nintendo has a way to directly communicate with fans and show them what is coming, this should never be viewed as a bad thing. Do I miss the old E3 shows? Sure but I also know times are changing and in a few years this is going to be the way companies communicate with their audience.

Another thing that bugged me about this is he didn't even know what version of Smash Bros. Nintendo is using for the tournament despite the fact that Nintendo has made this information readily available. This isn't supposed to be a serious tournament but rather a way for high skill Smash Bros. players to demonstrate what the new game can do as well as giving them a chance to weigh in on mechanics while the game is still in development. Not only that but this is a big thing for Nintendo to show interest in this side of gaming and hopefully this means they will be more willing to work with official tournaments in the future. They are showing interest in an audience they haven't really shown interest in before.

As for what Nintendo will talk about some of that is a given, I bet Sony won't be shy about talking about how well the PS4 has done and neither will Microsoft shy away from touting certain numbers like Titanfall and so forth. This is what these companies do, they get up and beat their chests proudly over these things. If you're gonna slam Nintendo on that then slam everyone. Any number talk should be looked down on.

I dunno I just don't feel like he's giving Nintendo a fair shake here and seems more content to slam on them instead of thinking about what the future can hold. I remember when he slammed on the 3DS and now look at that thing, you'd think he'd learn to be a little more optimistic.

Or should I post pictures of Wii-U and 3DS to have my opinion be taken seriously?

Is this a joke post? You do know that Pachter trolled you, right?

Is this a joke post? You do know that Pachter trolled you, right?

Sorry I don't take kindly to stupidity, whether it be unknowing or done on purpose?

This whole idea of "it's just trolling" or whatever is what keeps nonsense like this going on. If you're going to spend your time "trolling" when you're a professional then you really shouldn't have much of a job let alone a career in the business. Being uneducated on the subject matter you're ranting about doesn't equate to trolling either.

Quit making excuses.

Gametrailer viewers aren't his clients. You can bet he provides very different info to his clients. I always find it weird how viewers of the show seem to think Pachter should treat them like clients.

He didn't know it was Smash 4 at the tournament and then said "yeah well it's probably only the people competing that'll get to play it anyway", completely oblivious about the Best Buy event.

This guy seriously doesn't know a thing about Nintendo, and yet he gets paid to make his 'predictions'.

Wow.

Mr Pachter is a financial guy who likes games...

His view is interesting as its like an accountants non hardcore view on games......

Looking back at his predictions he thought Ps4 was the right balance and would sell well, XB1 needed to drop Kinect and go to US$ 399 to be competitive...

And his opinion on WiiU sales while controversial....

Guess what guys, like him or not.....he was roughly right.

I have 2 360's, 2 Ps3's, 2 Ps4's and a Wii, and I have not idea what Nintendo are presenting at E3 other than they don't turn up and normally do some video ....so why pick on Pachter for not knowing exactly....

People can learn allot from him if you listen...

And yet E3 is a world wide showcase - I live in UK. What is best buy , is it same as BOGOF ?

If you live in USA and support Big N then you would know.

Mr Pachter is smarter than you think...He takes his American hat off and thinks more broadly...

Pachter gets more wrong than he gets right. Perhaps he gets more right when speaking to clients, but he certainly isn't impressing most people who at least have a clue with what's going on and what needs to be done.

You may have no idea what Nintendo is presenting at E3, but I think that's attributable to your lack of interest regarding Nintendo's current consoles. You can find out more if you do a little more research.

I'm still confused after reading this thread. Are people upset at Pachter for this video, or are they just always upset at him for saying bad things about Nintendo?

If you are confused try looking at individual posters instead of assuming everyone is working within a hivemind.

It just seems weird to be making a video about what Nintendo has planned for E3 and then have no idea about a huge event they're doing for their biggest game this year. I don't think it makes Pach a bad person or anything, but it's like dude, this information takes like five minutes to google. You couldn't just brush up a little before the cameras started rolling? lol

Also, I wish people would just say they think Nintendo should have a big conference because they themselves enjoy big conferences instead of trying to craft this narrative where having a digital event over a conference means that no information is getting out or whatever. For the man on the street, the two are basically the same damn thing, and the press still gets a conference and events where Nintendo gives them the info they need. The information is still getting out.

About Pachter:

1 - Almost everything he said was ridiculous.
2 - He didn't inform himself about anything (old Smash? Oblivious to the BestBuy thing?), how can he analyze the situation if he doesn't know all the details?
3 - After he threw that kindergarten fit about AdBlock he's a talking clown as far as I'm concerned.

About some of the people defending Pacther:

1 - You're mostly as misinformed as him, I mean Nintendo not caring about E3? This year they're covering it more than any other company ever. *facepalm*
2 - Many are probably weeping because they just want all the streams to be presented on IGN, or Gamespot: they can't be bothered to search for stuff.

Case in point:

Looking back at his predictions he thought Ps4 was the right balance and would sell well, XB1 needed to drop Kinect and go to US$ 399 to be competitive...

I have 2 360's, 2 Ps3's, 2 Ps4's and a Wii, and I have not idea what Nintendo are presenting at E3 other than they don't turn up and normally do some video ....so why pick on Pachter for not knowing exactly....
Everyone thought the PS4 would sell better and that the X1 had to drop kinect, since about the first day. Remember the crazy screams when the PS4 price was revealed? Yeah.

You have no idea about what Nintendo is showing because you don't care, just like Pachter, not due to some weird colossal error made by Nintendo. You talk of stuff you're not informed about, just like Pachter. You reiterate the absurdity that Nintendo "normally" isn't at E3.

Holy shit, that NEVER happened, they have always had a conference aside from last year and this one. Last year they had the same old humongous booth inside E3, which as always was packed full of "journalists". This year they're having a Smash tournament, a video conference and 20 hours of live streaming their games during all E3, with demos and developer interviews. Plus 2 private roundtables with the press.

Man, the last few minutes are so good.
I wish he would talk more about those types of story instead of making prediction since his story is pretty funny.

How do you expect information to be fed to you?

I also don't get how Nintendo is marketing their E3 any differently than Sony or Microsoft. We have an idea of what they're going to do. You don't have an idea because you don't care.

2nd line onwards in that article :

"Instead, Nintendo will showcase its wares in a special "Digital Event" to be streamed online at 5pm UK time on Tuesday, 10th June.

The broadcast will "reveal and provide further detail about the gaming experiences on the way for Nintendo platforms in 2014 and beyond," the company teased.

In addition, Nintendo will host a Smash Bros. Wii U invitational tournament for top-rated players which will take place at the show itself and be streamed online.

Finally, "Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3" will offer constant live game demos from Nintendo's booth "during all hours" of E3
"

Yep, that's far too cryptic.

And yet E3 is a world wide showcase - I live in UK. What is best buy , is it same as BOGOF ?

If you live in USA and support Big N then you would know.

Mr Pachter is smarter than you think...He takes his American hat off and thinks more broadly...

I'm not even American...

Dude sounds like he thinks the game isn't going to be on the showfloor or anything though, that no one but the tournament players will play it.

I have no words. Take this good marketing instead:

...I'm not seeing what's wrong here. The article and video tell you pretty plainly what they're going to do. Not much "digging" involved.

Also, this video is so goofy. I'm glad Nintendo is imbuing these things with more personality.

Really?..he seems very English language focused to me.

Sony/Microsoft/EA/Ubisoft conferences...live in English

Nintendo Digital Event... "live" in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch.

Which is more inclusive to a worldwide audience?

He was like this when the Wii was doing amazing numbers. Before then even.
He doesn't like Nintendo because he has no say in the company and can't predict what they'll do so he lashes out like a bitter fanboy over it.

Hmm.

Anyway, he's spot on about the Nintendo fan base. They seem personally bothered when someone says that the Wii U is a complete failure and that Nintendo should likely re-evaluate their strategy going forward.

To the posters who „like“ Pachter; What on earth do you like?

I really, really don’t get it.

he has a sophisticated wit you find in English comedy.
you can tell which comments are a joke and which ones are serious

Well wii sold like it did and you didn't saw these them giving it that much credit....any Nintendo analysis by these guys should be completely dismissed....Nintendo is its own thing and doesn't follow any media trends and for that reason it should they think Nintendo should leave the industry or something....sad indeed.

Pachter is just a troll at this point. He's always wrong when it comes to Nintendo, and now he's attacking the fans.

I think we all know how to deal with trolls.

Has there ever been a confirmation that the Digital Event will be pre-recorded or is that just an assumption based on previous Directs?

Really?..he seems very English language focused to me.

I meant the best buy bit - isn't best buy a USA shop ?

I'm British and no.

So what? Maybe you don't understand his tone and wit.
He is funny, and acknowledges the fact that a lot of people don't like him due to brand loyalty mentality.
But to me, he has a charismatic personality when he tells his personal story.
His analysis might be cold/blunt, but that doesn't mean that he is a jerk.
You can tell he is having fun doing the show even with all the hates, and doing the show for free as well.

I'm British and no.

At the end of the day he is right, why is WiiU only budget to sell less than 3 million when Ps4 is 15 million per annum,,,,or whatever it is...

Allot of anti Pachter on here is Ad Hominem - attack the messenger sort of reply, don't like him, his humour, his smile, his attitude...

Try attacking his message, which is WiiU is not selling and WiiU direct is not effective...

Try doing it with facts - his humour about WiiU fans making most noise but not spending is funny and rings some truthful insight.

If WiiU third party games sold really well, guess what, WiiU would have lots of third party games. Big companies such as EA would not be ignoring it if they believed there was money there

If you think Mr Pachter is wrong about WiiU, then post numbers

It was? I thought it was Nintendo sucks because Maroon 5 won't be at E3 this year.

I liked his stores, he was just saying Nintendo had the best / most cool parties...Like a chat you would have in a bar about a show....

If you watch his many previous episodes, he has been on note about WiiU performance and the key Big N managers since WiiU reveal - More than most.

at least in the numbers he has been spot on. He laughed at the Nintendo WiiU budgets over a year ago and quite rightly got numbers right.

He may have some fun / witty sarcasm now but I bet his forecasts were spot on 12 months ago...

I like pachter and I see many of his predictions are normally right.

You're selective in what you take in and present. I think you need to do a little more research.

You've been called out a number of times in this thread already.

It was? I thought it was Nintendo sucks because Maroon 5 won't be at E3 this year.

He probably mentioned the parties and the lack of a real, live E3 press conference for two reasons:

A.) He likes to talk about himself.
B.) He's pointing out that Nintendo is not in the situation they were a few years ago to be able to have parties and a real, live E3 press conference.

Yep, that's far too cryptic.

For me and many others I trust E3 is about big shows by MS / Sony / UBI / EA etc, its exciting, and there maybe 50 or so new games / reveals / things we have not seen - new gimmicks / peripherals...on console and PC space...

And then there will be a video by Nintendo showing latest version of Smash and Zelda or a couple of games we sort of already know about...

If you cannot see the disparity here then fair enough - but its so large Mr P is just having a laugh at the obvious elephant in the room.

People who only watch E3 for the press conferences are doing it wrong and I have no hope for them. It's all about the showfloor and the news trickle afterwards. That's here the real meat is.

And seeing as I'm at home watching a feed from a film studio vs a stage makes no difference to me. The only time a pre recorded event is disappointing is with Konami and that's only because we know how great their live shows can be and it certainly isn't for the games.
