Where does he get this stuff? It's a modified current high range pc card. Ps4 and 720 will finally stop holding pc development back but things aren't going to be much different than pc games on ultra for awhile.

This is really trolling, lol. Awesome trolling, but trolling.

Unlike previous Pachter Predictions, which are generally grounded by questionable logic, this truly does read as something purely intended to rouse a reaction.

60fps in 3D for two players is 240fps.

Sony's latest TVs are 240Hz.

This could be where it's coming from.

It's still shit. Because Sony's TVs, like everyone elses, are 60hz. Input is all that matters here. Just because Sony and others use interpolation to make up data (and add a bunch of lag) so that LCD doesn't look like a smeary mess doesn't make it 240hz. If they'd get off their lazy asses and pay the 6.00 dollars and buy Silicon Image's latest HDMI chip, then yes, they could accept 120hz @1080p (and a whopping 30fps @4k). But at CES 2013 they couldn't even be bothered with that. So they'll continue selling lies to the public, the public will rave about their 960hz HDTVs, and they'll pocket the extra 2 dollars and go with the shitty HDMI chip with lousy bandwidth.)

Yes, I'm bitter about this. Cause fuck them. It's absolutely absurd we're stuck with this shitty standard and they refuse to adopt optional standards so they can save something for future marketing campaigns.

240Hz TV is actually just a marketing gimmick. The TVs run at 120Hz, but because they can display 3D content at that speed, it's "120Hz per eye = 240Hz". They say the same thing about my TV, which is a passive set, so it doesn't even need the extra frames to flicker between left/right images. It's a 120Hz TV with a fancy name attached to it because it can do 3D at that speed. Which itself is a bit of a misnomer, because I'm fairly certain that even artificially smoothed video (TruMotion, SmoothMotion, whatever they call it on different brands) doesn't actually exceed 60 frames per second.

That said, it's no secret to PC gamers that graphical settings can be tweaked to make games look a lot better at lower framerates. PS4 might be able to run PS3 games at ridiculously high frame rates, but there's not a single chance in hell of it running PS4 games at anything above 60fps. And we've already heard rumblings from devs that they'll still be targeting 30fps as the standard for next gen (I at least hope that they all run at 1080p for a change).

Honestly, the only thing I can see them doing in regards to their new TV line is to allow the system to do its own internal upscaling to 4K. But none of the games will actually render at 4K.

Pachter is a lunatic, I'm amazed that anyone takes him seriously. Obviously we don't, but you know there's a shitton of fanboys that will eat this up and will be super disappointed when Sony can't actually do what Pachter promised they would.
