240Hz TV is actually just a marketing gimmick. The TVs run at 120Hz, but because they can display 3D content at that speed, it's "120Hz per eye = 240Hz". They say the same thing about my TV, which is a passive set, so it doesn't even need the extra frames to flicker between left/right images. It's a 120Hz TV with a fancy name attached to it because it can do 3D at that speed. Which itself is a bit of a misnomer, because I'm fairly certain that even artificially smoothed video (TruMotion, SmoothMotion, whatever they call it on different brands) doesn't actually exceed 60 frames per second.
That said, it's no secret to PC gamers that graphical settings can be tweaked to make games look a lot better at lower framerates. PS4 might be able to run PS3 games at ridiculously high frame rates, but there's not a single chance in hell of it running PS4 games at anything above 60fps. And we've already heard rumblings from devs that they'll still be targeting 30fps as the standard for next gen (I at least hope that they all run at 1080p for a change).
Honestly, the only thing I can see them doing in regards to their new TV line is to allow the system to do its own internal upscaling to 4K. But none of the games will actually render at 4K.
Pachter is a lunatic, I'm amazed that anyone takes him seriously. Obviously we don't, but you know there's a shitton of fanboys that will eat this up and will be super disappointed when Sony can't actually do what Pachter promised they would.
