PAL Charts - Week 12, 2014

Sure it does. Your only looking at the UK market. They will do okay overall sales on XB1.

I can't see KH3 doing that well on XB1. There hasn't been a KH game at all on a Xbox console so there's not much of a fanbase outside of people who had PS2 (or PS3) but went with XB1 as opposed to PS4.

Wouldn´t it make more sense, if we do it the other way around?

- If the 1:4 quote means week1 one only, we´d look at >117k TF XB1, so >468k XB1 sold
- If the 1:4 quote means TF XB1 LTD, we´d look at >149k TF XB1, so >596k XB1 sold

- If we accept 117k TF XB1 first week, we´d look at ~60k ISS PS4
- If we extrapolate that with the 1:9 ratio, we end up at ~540k PS4

As we know no upper ceiling for TF XB1 first week, its hard to get closer to the truth. But I think if XB1 has outsold PS4 in the UK, we´d heard. So we can at least take, that the 1:4 ratio means week1 only for TF XB1.
PS4 sold close to 540k units in 2013 alone...... why 117k Titanfall means 60k inFAMOUS?

The Xbone sales seems to be right... close to 500k LTD but I guess PS4 sold right now close to 700k because it only get outsold by Xbone in the last four weeks in UK... since January until late February PS4 was outselling Xbone in UK.

Well, either way, both informations don't add up at all. There's no way the PS4 sold 30k in 2014, while the XB1 almost doubled its 2013 sales.

Precisely what are you extrapolating from those numbers. If your doing what I think your doing aren't you assuming every unit of Titanfall sold was from the XB1 bundle. You can't extrapolate XB1 numbers from Titanfall. Not from the information provided.

There is a reason MS isn't talking about Titanfall sales right now. It didn't boost hardware like they were hoping.

No, I'm not. This is coming from multiple articles from MCVwhich state :

1/4 XB1 owners bought TF
1/9 PS4 owners bought ISS
TF first week first was 125k+ (XB1+PC but the latter was 6%)
TF first week = 2x ISS first week.

Makes 0 sense, considering we know that 2013 LTD figures were 530k (PS4) and 360k (XB1)

How can you say the software didn't increase? All the big multiplats are on the chart and NFS returned. There are 7 new games on the chart even if sales for the other games went up their relative positions would fall. I'm not saying the sales did go up but there is no way of knowing.

Trying to understand your contention. Should more Ps4 games be charting or should the charting games be higher.

It's pretty simply, I expected to see PS4 games climbing in the charts instead of falling due to the number of new PS4 owners, just as I expected to see X1 software rise last week due to the number of new owners.

It didn't happen either week, that's surprising to me.

60k*9=540k

120k*4=480k.

Extremely rough numbers. The fuck is up with your math.

We don't know if those ratios are from a small data set [aka that one retail source/chain] or the whole country.

It could be very much like taking the US amazon charts as how consoles are selling.

Unless I'm mistaken your numbers suggest that PS4 has only sold 10K units in the UK in like 3 months? That's crazy talk

Going by those numbers, I think it's safe to say TF sold substantially over the 125k minimum. It's the only way to make the PS4 LTD add up. There's no way it has only sold 540k.

I think he means the TF numbers.

All we know is that it did better than FW 2014 Fifa 14, so it could be higher than 114k.

We have the split
You already know the 360.

Titanfall packaged retail split:

XBO: 94%
PC:6%

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/454158/titanfall-boosts-uk-xbox-one-sales-by-96/

And PC version doing worse than Minecraft.
Lower than Minecraft 360 Edition means

Titanfall PC < 7,300
Titanfall total < 121,667
Titanfall One < 114,367

We don't know if those ratios are from a small data set [aka that one retail source/chain] or the whole country.

I see where the 30k is coming from now that 1 in 9 sounds dodgy as hell or Infamous selling half is. Either that or PS4 is ridiculously supply constrained which doesn't make sense.

Could just be the error margin in numbers though since XB1 only sold around 100k more anyway.

Say it was 70k for infamous that'd make it, 630. It's probably the difference in numbers themselves.

Or the "just under double" is about "a trusted retail source".

Maybe, I'm of the mind that the statements made in that article may in fact not be representative of the entire UK market but were simply one retailers take on it.

The lack of numbers to work from always complicate matters

So you're saying the PS4's 2014 YTP figure is 10k or so?
Yeah, sounds legit.

Error margins is the most likely issue. A 10k difference leads to 90k hardware. We don't know infamous' number. Multiply the source multiples the margin.

All we know is infamous sold more than half Titanfall, by what degree is extremely important using this maths.

Beanie invasion!

Glad to see InFamous hit no.1, I just hope it has the legs to remain there for some time.

I expect to see some serious sales figures, when I was picking up my copy everyone at the tills was buying InFamous and most of the people in the queue behind me.

From their multiple articles, MCV states that ISS sold 62k max.
So they're likely way off somewhere.
62k mininum.

"just under double" means that ISS sold more than half of Titanfall.... if Titanfall sold 122k in first week then ISS sold a minimum of 62k.

That's a weird way to phrase it then, if it turns out ISS sold 70k or something.

Lol, no way the XO has outsold Ps4 LTD in UK. It's just week on week basis.
Last week MCV said UK in under PS4 control... so PS4 is number 1 yet and sold more hardware this week again.

Xbone sold in 2014 only 4 weeks more units than PS4.

28k is it not? Are MCV now wrong as well because people don't want to believe what they are saying?

It's not 28k with the amount of accuracy this data has we can't remotely assume that level of accuracy in interpretations.

We're dealing in the devils in error margin all quotes should be taken with massive grains of salt without more information. We're multiplying our errors here, it's a very dangerous thing to do.

Yeap... under double means that TF < 2x ISS... if TF sold 122k then ISS needs to sold over 61k (double = 122k) to be accurate.... so 65k, 70k, 75k, 80k etc can all be true.

28k is it not? Are MCV now wrong as well because people don't want to believe what they are saying?

So last week we had this, after the fourth week of X1 being the top selling machine
But retailers have told MCV that PS4 remains in control, and that Xbox’s recent success has been aided by shortages of Sony’s console.
and this week we have the PS4 selling more.

I wonder who's making stuff up...

We have the split

And PC version doing worse than Minecraft.

If we assume your first week number and this MCV quote is right...

MCV can also reveal that around one in four UK Xbox One owners purchased Titanfall. Meanwhile, around one in nine PS4 owners acquired InFamous: Second Son.

...and they mean LTD TF numbers (not only first week) it would look like this:

TF XB1 LTD < 145k
Infamous LTD > 73k

=>

145k * 4 = 580k XB1 sold
73k * 9 = 675k sold

So this would mean XB1 sold more in 2014 than PS4. I doubt that, but well...

2014:

XB1: 580k - 364k = 216k
PS4: 675k - 530k = 145k

Edit: Of course the 2:1 info for TF and Infamous could be more like 1.9:1...

MCV said:
MCV has also been told by a trusted retail source that Titanfall sold just under double the amount of units its first week than InFamous managed in its debut week

and that would increase the PS4 number.

With large drop off for Titanfall and XB1 sales, what exactly is possible next in the UK? For those that dont know, MS dropped the price by 30 GBP ($50) plus bundled free game in - basically same as $450 bundles they are doing in the USA. It is unlikely that they can do something better considering how hyped up Titanfall was as game changer.

Infamous bundles on the other hand are extra cost., and rise of PS4 hardware in UK is also due to it not being readily available weeks before.
