Panzer Dragoon Orta is magnificent!

I purchased this game on eBay (brand new) recently for $8. In one word: "stunning."

The unorthodox characters, locales, and story seem they were ripped from an RPG. The only other on-rails shooter i've played is Star Fox, but compared to that, Panzer Orta is on a whole other level of "kick-assitude."

Oh yes.

I've had this game for ages, but only recently got into it. Beautiful game. Definitely the best on-rails shooter ever.

I actually changed my desktop pic (that only happens like, 3 times a year) to this. More here.

was there some problem about this game playing on the xbox system-

Ive got 2 copies, and neither will load up

I have it pulled out and sitting on the floor next to my Xbox right now, been planning to replay it for awhile. Gorgeous, atmospheric, wonderful game.

I remember someone mentioning that it has problems loading up in progressive scan in the newer XBox models.

It's hot Panzer sex, is what it is!

The only problem I heard of was if you tried to run the game in 480p. I think a LIVE update caused the problem. Don't remember the details since I never had the problem and never looked into it.

Love it and it is pretty damn hard aswell.. even on normal difficulty... I think I will replay it on easy.
It is pretty hard, but i actually welcome the challenge. Trial & error isn't always a bad thing, ya?

Sadly, this game is highly underrated (i'm still in shock that i got this wonderful gem for $8, and it isn't even a Platinum Hits). Now why didn't Nintendo choose Smile Bit to do Star Fox? Ah well, the team's been disbanded already...

Beautiful game. I hope Sega consider reviving the series once again for the next gen. I can only imagine what they could do on next gen hardware...*drools*

I hate to say it, but whatever the company does with the series in the future, don't bring it on the X-Box.

Damnit! Now once sega reads your post, they will do exactly opposite of that...

I thought there was a solution..?

I don't think they would after the bad sales of Orta but you never know. I don't care what platform it comes out on as long as it comes out :D

Big PD fan here as well, and I agree PDO is magnificent.

Hopefully we'll get a next-gen incarnation, Sega has been on an interesting track lately so it's not completely ruled out yet.

Anyone want my copy? Pristine condition, no intent on ever playing it again.

I just tried getting into this game again last week.. and boy, I couldn't.

I'm sorry but the whole japanese artsy fartsy thing just doesn't work for my european sense of aesthetic. The gameplay is fine but the art and story just sucks. I played it as long as I could stand the characters. Which was, like, five levels or something.

This game is the reason I bought the XBox in the first place, and it was worth it.

Related PA's for no reason whatsoever:

PDO is the one game that made me hesitate when I eBayed my Xbox. Such a fun and satisfying experience.

great shooter, deep too. i loved playing through and learning all the optimum times to switch forms. great boss battles as well. memories

Damn, I'm gonna go pick this up today now. Thank you. Thus far Shenmue II is the greatest reason to have owned an Xbox this generation for me, maybe Sega notches another on their belt.

You forgot one system.
No I didn't, unless you mean PS2. I'd like to see some ports though...

Sega Ages: Panzer Dragoon II Zwei (PS2)
Sega Ages: Azel Panzer Dragoon (PS2)
Panzer Dragoon Orta (PS2)
New Panzer Dragoon (PS3)

Panzer Dragoon I+II (DS)

If there's one word to describe Panzer Dargoon Orta is beauty.

The whole is just perfect. Beautiful gameplay, beautiful music, beautiful atmosphere, beautiful grafx (the game is still one of the best looking Xbox games) beautiful and simple storyline. Beautiful experience.

A next gen Panzer Dragoon would be amazing. I would buy a X360 just for it.

Does anyone remember a music video with most of the CG scenes from the game? It was either posted here or at TeamXbox a couple years back, but I remember it was beautiful. The CG blew me away, it was just drawn so...uniquely.I think the song was the theme from Pearl Harbor; yeah...anyone have that? I'd love to see it again.

i bought this game used months ago and it's been sitting on my shelf unplayed. Maybe i'll pick it up when i decide to take a break from NG black.

I have all of LAGI- The Art of Panzer Dragoon:

http://moonapples.com/lagi/

As part of my slideshow screensaver.

Orta was one of the foremost reasons I got an Xbox.

Sequel. Please. Saga or shooter style, either one is good. A mix of both? Me love you long time.

Very nice. And yeah, this is one game I'm actually hoping gets a 360 update. It'd be staggeringly awesome to see that art style done in ultra high res, high fps, with lots of graphical bells and whistles. I'm usually not much of a graphics whore, but for this game, pimp me please.

Panzer Dragoon Orta is what made me buy an Xbox as soon as it was announced. Whatever console the Panzer series goes to I will have to buy.

If of course it ever comes back after Sega has had enough fun making utter shit like Virtua Quest and Shadow the Hedgehog.

But then they also disbanded Smilebit and forced them to make sports games. *deepest sigh possible*

I never took attention that gam, I guess the game got away from me, after i traded in my saturn , do to sega ******** up again. Now that i want a saturn back, that game is on my list, not to mention the old version. I like the music in the game , best thing about it.

I bought a Saturn to play Panzer Dragon Saga.

Anyway, recently I bought a brand new Xbox and found a new copy of Panzer Dragoon Orta after much searching.

But alas, you can't play this beauty in 480p Prog Scan on new Xboxes, anything greater than v1.4 won't work.

They changed the video encoding chip and this is incompatible with a few games like this and Jet Set Radio Future. I have since had to buy a 2nd hard Xbox, that was old enough to work with PDO. I then had to replace the defunct Thomson DVD drive to get that one to work.

A lot of effort just to play JSFF and PDO in Prog Scan, but it was worth it.

Here is a thread about the incompatibility issues from HDTV Arcade:

The workaround suggested earlier in this thread appears to resets the game to 480i (not tested it yet.)

PDO is sure to be one of the games that won't work in prog scan on the 360 either.
