Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones Official Trailer

I can recommend watching The Conjuring too. It's a fine movie.

But I absolutely love Paranormal Activity. The 4th one disappointed me but I saw Tokyo Nights this week and it were good. Loved the Japanese setting.

I'm fine with The Marked Ones. It's a breath of fresh air while we wait for PA5. This one looks different as it should be but it didn't really scream "horror" until the last few seconds of the trailer.

It does look more promising than PA4 though.

My ranking:
1. Paranormal Activity
2. Paranormal Activity 3
3. Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Nights
4. Paranormal Activity 2
5. Paranormal Activity 4

My rankings are the same as yours. Conjuring was great too. I thought this trailer looks very cool.

Oh great, an old magical Latina lady tries to save the day with her all knowing powers! Didn't expect that in a horror movie starring Latino people, let alone a Paranormal Activity movie!

Not interested in this.

This is the worst theater-released horror series of all-time. There isn't even a single good one, and the sequels are some of the worst movies I've ever seen. I seriously can't think of a single entertaining thing about it except when I was watching 2 and laughing my ass off at the whole water vacuum thing.

This shit needs to stop.

That looks depressingly boring. Predictable scares, lack of imagination, lack of interesting characters, clichéd characters.

Sigh, what happened to the horror genre? It used to be great but now we're left with garbage like this, Insidious, etc...depressing.

The horror genre is fine. You're ignoring a lot of great horror movies that have come out the last few years.

Like? Genuine curious as I feel I may have missed a few.

There's Rec, Quarantie 2, Descent, The Mist, Session Nine, Devil's Rejects, Trick 'r Treat. Those are the ones that immediately come to mind. What am I missing/haven't seen?

Probably jaded by the fact that I watched the garbage that was PA4 last night, but this looks equally terrible. Trailer confirms the same lame formula is still going strong with a couple minor additions like hair in the eyeball...pushed/pulled bodies, demon disappearing then reappearing right next to character, possessed humans at the end. Quit supporting this trash at the box office.

at first. i thought it was a parody. it started with the siesta then it was like almost watching the day after. and he's trying to figure out what happened the night before. it looks way low budget. moreso than the previous movie.

Christ there is a lot of exaggeration in this post. If Paranormal activity 2-4 are some of the worst movie you have ever seen then you really haven't seen a lot of movies.

Are you one of these people who has to hate the mainstream or popular things in each genre?

Wait, is there really a PA: Tokyo nights? Or is that a joke off of the fast and furious series?

No, they are legitimately some of the worst movies I've ever seen. I have seen a ton of movies (hell, I teach a film class). They are absolutely awful and only successful because there are people out there that think moving bedsheets and kitchen drawers opening are scary. Similar to the people that laugh everytime someone gets kicked in the balls.

And no, I do not hate the mainstream or popular things. For recent "mainstream" horror films, I loved Cabin in the Woods and The Conjuring. Hell, I even love the Saw movies for their ridiculously stupid and nonsensical stories and characters. Sounds like you just dislike the fact that someone hates your movies and are coming up with shit excuses as to why I don't like them.

But the PA movies are garbage.

There is no reason to be afraid of horror/sci fi films because ghosts/demons and the paranormal aren't real. But to be able to make people forget about that and creep someone out takes good visual/audio design to create a realistic and interesting atmosphere along with believable/realistic characters. I feel paranormal activity 1-3 did this very well.

Every criticism of this series is that people shouldn't be scared of moving chandeliers. You ignore that it isn't the moving chandelier's itself that people are scared by, it's everything else that builds up to that. Because it gives the impression that it's a real/true story with a real household setting and characters that don't seem like actors. A lot of people are inherently creeped out by empty houses at night, these movies take full advantage of that.

The first 3 I think were well made, well designed films for a very specific audience. Blame the marketers for pitching it as the scariest thing EVERRRRRR. I'm interested in knowing why you think they are genuinely bad. You teach a film class so you know the spectrum of bad reaches mega shark vs. giant octupus levels. Unless you judge all movies on the 7-10 scale like gamers do.

Looks pretty terrible. I've only enjoyed the first and a bit of the third. I think these films would be a bit more enjoyable if each one was a different event, just another footage found of some weird shit that happened somewhere in the world with no ties to the previous movies.

Say what you want about the series, but this statement just makes it seem like you haven't been paying attention.

Separate thought: Lots of people coming in here just to shit all over everything it seems.

Also, to those asking about Tokyo Night: It is real, but it is not canon. It is a Japanese spin-off made by completely different people. It's pretty good though (if you like PA).

Rewatching PA4 on netflix and there's a brief scene where "Ben" the boyfriend is saying "I have to go to Mexico to visit family" or something. I wonder if it's related or just something they threw in there.

It's possible, I guess. I mean they had the spin-off in mind when they were filming Paranormal 4. The post-credits scene definitely confirms it.

Possibly. But The Marked Ones takes place in Oxnard, California.

A theory I posted towards the bottom of the 1st page (if you have threads set to display 100 posts per page, like a boss):

So judging from the trailer, they go to a lady's apartment who was killed below one of the main character's apartments. In it they find all sorts of demon-shit and from there they begin their adventure of discovery.

Later in the trailer, Ali (the daughter from PA2) shows up and talks about what is going on. She seems a little more somber than usual, even given that her entire family has been killed.

My guess? Martine (the help\maid\whatever) was the one who was living under the main character's apartment and was killed by the demon. Either Ali was living with her (a little unlikely) or was in town for the funeral.

I love these movies, mainly for the 'lore' if you could call it that. It's the same reason I love the Saw movies. PA4 had pretty much zero story and I would go as far as to say that I actively disliked it. But this new one...looks like we're actually going to get some story progression. I'm excited.

Inside, High Tension, V/H/S, ABC's of Death, The Conjuring, Sinister, Grave Encounters, Cabin in the Woods, ils.

I liked 1-4. We make it an event to see it every October and it's become a tradition. Why they chose to skip this year confuses me.

This trailer... It doesn't really look too good. I can't really explain why, the main character has a dumb looking haircut.

Oh, and it goes:

1>3>4>2

I liked the conjuring as well (and cabin in the woods) but i didnt think the conjuring was that much better than PA3....i thought PA1 was better than the conjuring. I have no problem with you not liking the movies but to say they are some of the worst movies ever seems a bit of a stretch.

I thought PA1 was legitimately scary and was excellent at building up tension and not resulting so much to cheap scare tactics. The buildup of events was really well done. I dont see how you can like the conjuring and not like PA1 at the very least?

Wut?

Watch it at night in black and white. The spider scene will remain with you for the rest of your life. It's terrifying...

Inside, High Tension, V/H/S, ABC's of Death, The Conjuring, Sinister, Grave Encounters, Cabin in the Woods, ils.

Not sure I'd count Cabin the Woods. I've seen a number of them, but I'm not sure I consider them to be memorable or worth repeated viewings. Conjuring might, will wait for the BR release.

Inside is an odd one. Not sure I consider it horror, but it's certainly a very, very tense movie. I haven't seen High Tension though or ils, thanks for the recommends.
