Of course they are, they wouldn't leave such severe story threads dangling.
I think the 2 groups structure that the first film left them in will work really well.
Sersi, Phastos and Kingo are with Arishem.
Makkari, Druig and Thena are in space with Pip and Eros.
I think it will be far more character driven since there is no back story to tell.
And I find it amazing that Patton Oswalt let this slip, did he really think they had already announced it?
Why? The first film was awful.
you never know, maybe with all the horrible exposition and setup out of the way, the next film could let the actors shine and give us a meaty good plot? I say give them another shot and kill them all horribly if they screw up again. Would be a great way to setup the next avengers film, with all the eternals being killed horribly in the first hour.
The first Eternals movie was the most mind-numbingly pointless movie I’ve ever seen.
utterly pointless film

It didn’t feel like it was connected to the MCU, other than a few obvious call-outs. It was very different and not in a good way.Why do some people use the word "pointless" for this film? It tells a complete story with an ending. Why is it pointless?

They also seem very comparable to Mr Satan where there powers are mostly hubris.
Only if they’re supposed to be connected.Let's pretend the film wasn't a part of the MCU. There are 1000 movies released a year that aren't connected to the MCU. Are they all pointless?
Oh god why.
I'm pissed enough that the first movie in the mcu to focus on these cosmic entities turned out to be shit, now they wanna double dip?
I read the Eternals reboot from Gaiman and Romita Jr. It was a very good story with some compelling characters (edit: it's free via Comixology if you have Prime). Zhao (and I suppose Marvel Studios for giving her so much leeway) pretty much came in and butchered the characters and the story. If they had adapted it even somewhat faithfully I'd have loved it.
As it is I mirror what many on the internet are asking given this news: Why? Is there really a significant amount of people out there who wants more of that?
Good point. I think we're also going to see fans more divided on the coming slate of movies, because Marvel seems intent on broadening their audience base. The coming phases look to have a bit of something for everyone. Eternals landed flat with me, but it's cool that there are people that liked it. I like the more action-focused films. Or the funny ones like Ragnarok. But I think it's good what they're doing, and ultimately, I'm interested in how the Celestials and Eternals fit into the bigger picture. I don't have to like them, so long as they push events forward in the universe.I don't think many people here realise that the majority of audiences liked this film. If anyone is saying people don't like it due to it's box office, it's not a fair measure as it released during COVID.
Nah, it looked beautiful and had well shot action. Zhao did really well considering how much story needed to be in there.
It not only bombed at the box office, but also has the worst cinemascore of the entire MCU to date...I don't think many people here realise that the majority of audiences liked this film. Thor fell way short of their projections and they want to do a sequel to this bomb? lol, ok. This new MCU phase is ridiculous.
I don't know what their projections were, but Thor: Love and Thunder has done pretty well. It's done better than Ragnarok when you take into account it won't release in either Russia or China.Thor fell way short of their projections and they want to do a sequel to this bomb? lol, ok. 'Nowhere near as good' is just people being silly. It has got a lot more humour, quite a bit of it quite basic, in it. And perhaps that's not for you. It's still worth a watch.Haven't watched Love & Thunder but I hear it's nowhere as good as Ragnarok.

200M budget for 401M in box office. Sounds like it barely broke even as the marketing costs generally are only partially included in the top line production budgets numbers. Very low by marvel/comic book movies standards, esp w/the "stacked cast". If Batgirl's cancellation is anything to go by, the industry is probably going to (slowly) pivot back to crowd pleasers.
