Among the 100 contenders, Baldur's Gate 3 was voted the best PC game by the site. Meanwhile, Disco Elysium, last year's winner, fell to second place. Elden Ring completes the portal's Top 3.

  1. Baldur's Gate 3 (2023)
  2. Disco Elysium (2019)
  3. Elden Ring (2022)
  4. Minecraft (2011)
  5. Persona 5 Royal (2022)
  6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015)
  7. Half-Life 2 (2004)
  8. Balatro (2024)
  9. Stardew Valley (2016)
  10. Doom (1993)

And Eurogamer too probably, as the bear scene is a watershed moment in gaming history.

All I ever hear about this game is stupid nonsense.

They also don't have Deus Ex in top 10 so the list is shit.

Keep an eye on the comment section though because it's always full of people abusing PC Gamer lol.

Lmao what a shitty list

One of those lists with a heavy bias towards recent releases. It allows them to redo the list every year.

Next year's list will see new games jump into the top 10.

The funniest version of this are all those "best city for X" lists that release every year and switch things up somehow every single year.

It's fun to discuss people's "favorites" and "why" but I don't really get into the arguing that treats this all somehow as being objective.

Well, then the money for actual editorials are running out so top whatever is always a good thing to increase engagement with low quality bites like that. This is coming from a man who worked 12+ years in media, so I guess overall financials in PC Gamer are pretty dire. Also 1 RTS in the entire list? Is it really PC Gamer?

That being said, I'll bite a bit. I have like 300+ hours in Baldur's Gate 3 and I love this game very much (bought the physical big box PS5 release even), but even I wouldn't call BG3 best PC game. Moreover, I wouldn't even call it the best CRPG ever to be honest.

But granted, for engagement sakes the said top is just a list of more or less recent games and the best thing that you cand do as a reader is to totally ignore it altogether.

Did the law that previously required all of these top 100 lists to utterly suck get repealed?
Never thought id see a somewhat competent one. Had they removed 90% of the indies theyd be half-way to a good top 100 list.

It's not the best PC game of all time lol, I didn't even buy it
(it is really good though and I enjoyed watching many others play it)

I'm not usually one to judge lists like these because everyone's entitled to their opinion...

... but wow, that list is shit.

No Diablo, no Starcraft, no Warcraft, no Quake, no Unreal, no Counter-Strike, etc.. etc..

...and 8 of their top 10 are games that came out in 2011 or later.

Eesh.

Genzers should learn pc games history lesson.

I got the shodiest "greatest games" book as a gift. It was clearly written by someone who was not around when most of the games came out. It was a page each on 100 games. Not a full page but a sort of blurb under a big title. No pictures (?!).

What the absolute fuck? How is neither World of Warcraft, Warcraft III, Starcraft and Diablo 2 in the top 10? Are they actually retarded? Were none of them PC gamers in 90s and early 2000s? What is this list?

This isn't about having subjective opinions. It's a given that any Blizzard game from that era should be in the Top 10. We're talking about a developer whose games were such a worldwide phenomenon, they were popular enough to have their own conventions. It'd be like having a "Top 10 Time Travel Movies" and not having Back to the Future on there. This list is embarrassing.

EDIT: Their highest ranking Blizzard game is Starcraft 2 at #31.

I have my doubts that it's even the best Baldur's Gate game. Shadows of Amn is a hard act to follow.
I would probably take BG2 as well , but also it's partially nostalgia. BG3 is very very good game.

That said, the list is very suspect and biased toward recent releases.

It's probably Zoomers or young Mellenials doing the list hence the game choices.

Folks who have been gaming since the 90s would have had a different selection.

No HoMM3, No C&C, no Diablo 2, no Deus Ex

Diablo 2 and Deus Ex are on the list but lower down. No C&C games at all.

I hate these lists. There's always a recency bias, and it tends to look suspiciously like the knowledge of most of the voters cuts off sharply at a certain point.

I've only tried BG3 for an hour or two, but Shadows of Amn is on my Mount Rushmore of games.
