Dropped that game during the first battle. I'm sure it's a good game, just not for me.

List is fucking horrible.

It's the one with the most production value, I'll give it that.
It seems to be the vibe with this game honestly. I didn't play it yet, but i don't like BBII for the production values and what i hear a lot about BGIII is exactly that, and how the dialog with cutscenes are amazing etc. LArian ia top tier dev in my opinion, so i trust the gameplay part they nailed.

The game is still excellent in its own right but it's not the best pc game ever made. It might have an argument for top 10, maybe. Too early to tell

Absurd list.

Ultima 7 was ground breaking at the time and by mile the best game i had ever played back then, but i guess these guys weren't born when that was released.

PC Gamer used to be a good site/publication.l

Now it is just shit.

Man...
PCG has been around since the early 90's i think. I remember some of their magazine covers/demo disc from around Quake 1 launch in 96.

Of course their quality dropped, but all things considered and specially when you compare to some other sites that had a bigger downfall, they are still ok.

Yeah, I used to be a subscriber to their mag back in the day. I'm sure other sites are worse, but I just don't like what PC gamer has become. They just have so many bad takes.

I have always subscribed to the idea of 10 years+ only. If it is going to have a list category of "ALL TIME" it has to stand the test of time. At the time of publishing any game has to be older than a decade to be worthy of the honor.

If that was a prerequisite it would put Minecraft at #1 and Half-Life 2 at #2

I got the shodiest "greatest games" book as a gift. It was clearly written by someone who was not around when most of the games came out. It was a page each on 100 games. Not a full page but a sort of blurb under a big title. No pictures (?!).
They got 2 ears, there's a way to communicate unless there's something wrong with genzers.

Among the 100 contenders, Baldur's Gate 3 was voted the best PC game by the site. Meanwhile, Disco Elysium, last year's winner, fell to second place. Elden Ring completes the portal's Top 3.

  1. Baldur's Gate 3 (2023)
  2. Disco Elysium (2019)
  3. Elden Ring (2022)
  4. Minecraft (2011)
  5. Persona 5 Royal (2022)
  6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015)
  7. Half-Life 2 (2004)
  8. Balatro (2024)
  9. Stardew Valley (2016)
  10. Doom (1993)

Doom 2 is better than Doom.
Hell no...imo. Doom 2 was more of the same. The first was iconic, and the levels actually felt different. Doom2 is just too jammed packed. with enemeis, It was probably great for people wanting to flex or people playing the online part but as a single player portion, the first was way more distinct and fresh. Don't get me wrong doom2 was a great game, but it wasn't unique and didn't add much to the first.

Same thing for doom 2016 vs Eternal. Doom eternal was fine if you love puzzle combat and limited ammo, not if you love classic style doom, but that is more of a personal opinion. I couldn't stand eternal and its limited ammo combat puzzles.

No Homm3, Dues Ex, Doom , Quake , Half-life, BG1, Pools of Radiance 1988 ftw..., Ultima underworld, ultima 7, Wizardry 8, Thief 1/2, Vtm bloodlines, kotor, Diablo 2, Morrowind, Homeworld, Civilization, Sim City, Age of Empires 2, I can go on and on. Too many recent games in the top spots.

I've returned to the first two Baldur's Gate games many times. Don't feel the same way about the third.

I think the ending of Act 2 really ruined that game for me, when that ridiculous self-insert lesbian character comes barging in, bashing her girlfriend's father's head in before announcing they were going away to scissor each other immediately. Suddenly I didn't feel like I was in a fantasy universe anymore.
Did this really happen? I haven't got past the first act yet. i put it down to play starfield (which didn't hold me ) and then dogma 2 as well as some others. I still need to go back. Say it aint so.

It wouldn't shock me though. Seeing the new players handbook artwork was like looking at the wokest shit fest ever. Full of drag looking Tieflings, twirly handlebar mustaches, rainbows and unicorns everywhere, no grit. Absolutely zero medieval fantasy feel, it was like dnd goes to candy land. It felt like DND got taken over, and it has (have a friend that works for dnd beyond wotc, and he fills me in, its insane the shit they have to do to appease weirdos online) I was just glad bg3 characters looked good and didn't get hit with the ugly stick.

Wth??? It's exactly the opposite. Eternal has illimited ammo vs all others being limited.

It was hard to go back to Doom 1 once you experience the double-barrel shotgun.

Persona 5 Royal one of the best PC games ever released and higher than Half-Life 2

I’d put it in the top ten. In fact having it on PC let me actually make it to the end because I could switch back and forth from Steam Deck to desktop

I think since I've never been a big PC gamer, I had a very different kind of list in my head. I would have thought of classic games made specially for PC like the Might and Magic series, Ultima series, War/StarCraft, old DOS games, point and click game, etc.

I know PC ports have always been a thing, but it seems like the lines have been blurred much more in recent years. Looking at the list at first, I was like "those are mostly PlayStation and X-Box games." Again, I understand that they released on PC also/first in some cases, but some of them just didn't immediately click in my head as PC games.

I never played BG3 as I cannot stand turn based games. Regardless of my own preferences there are many more iconic games with wider appeal on PC like Half Life 2, StarCraft, AoE, DeusEx, The Elder Scrolls etc.

PC gamer is as purple as a internet site can be. As a fairly new pc gamer, i wasn't aware at first until reading some pieces. Never got a click of me again.

One of my biggest irks of BG3 is the overly theatrical characters :messenger_neutral:. Can you imagine someone like Xzar put in BG3? It would be like those 400% facial animation videos.
