PCGaf: 2 years after launch, who doesn't have neither ps4 nor xb1 still?

If people consider themselves gamers they cant afford to completely dismiss consoles.

That was always my opinion.

Consoles nowdays -for good or bad- are the main focus of most big developers and publishers. Couple that with first party exclusive studios and developers , and really... how can you not want to play a vast library of games that never will see the light of day in another system?

Not only that but consoles nowdays are benefiting from some exclusive 3rd party multiplatform releases as well. (granted this seems to fade away this gen)

My opinion is you need a PC and a console to enjoy most of what the industry offers. Have a good PC and either a PS4/XBOX/WiiU (depending on your exclusive 1st party taste). Best scenario is ofcourse to have them all, but that aint realistic for most people for a lot of reasons (mainly lack of time for me).
Said a guy without a PC ...

I have a PC and wii u. Sold my ps4 not long after launch for PC upgrades. Don't regret it at all. The cheaper games was a huge pull especially steam sales etc and I love to tinker so it's perfect for me

Simply put:

No.

I feel like the question is a bit weird (ignoring the obvious year mistake) to be honest. Sort of like it would be some majority of PC gamers that has one of the consoles. I'd imagine at this point it's mostly the console-only gamers who own it (with some PC gamers obviously).

Anyway, haven't got either one and extremely likely will not be getting either one. First, I don't have that much money, and second, and more importantly so, I don't have that much time.

I admit I have a Wii U though, but it's partly for local coop and partly for the exclusives which I personally find more interesting than the ones on the other consoles (not to say there aren't any interesting games though).

Missing a /s.

Have a strong PC, 2 gaming laptops and a PS4. Will pick up a XB1 at some point.

But PC only is a joke. You miss too many games.
Not really. You miss out on games either way, because you simply can not play everything that is interesting. Unless you only like AAA games.

If people consider themselves gamers they cant afford to completely dismiss consoles.

That was always my opinion.

I agree in a phillosophical level, in practice though... I have a job, not nearly enough hours to play everything there is on PC right now. You get to an age when gaming is more about the time you can afford to waste, than the actual monetary cost.

Consoles nowdays -for good or bad- are the main focus of most big developers and publishers. .

Big developers don't matter as much as they used to, out of my time /played in games this year it mostly goes to Arma 3, DayZ, Wastelands 2, Divinity, Nuclear Throne, CSGO...

The most interesting stuff in gaming is sure not comming out from big publishers these days. This last year was specially horrendus for AAA gaming, other than Sunset Overdrive and FC4, every single big game was a let down in my book, and there weren't many actual new big releases to begin with.

I had a PS4 for about a month at launch, then sold it and haven't looked back.

I'm sitting pretty with a PC and a Wii U, and I'm drowning in amazing games to play.

There just doesn't feel like much of a reason to get one of the Paywall Twins at the moment. The vast majority of the best games come out on PC from those platforms, and the rate is increasing with the success of Steam.

Meanwhile, the Wii U offers something different enough that I can't replicate it using my PC setup.

Yeah I have no need for them.

Would have bought a ps4 for bloodbourne if DS2 wasn't a phoned in cash grab, but I'm not giving fromsoft any more of my money until they convince me otherwise with a competent multiplatform souls game.

the reason is that there is no must have game. if you have a pc and a last gen system you can pretty much play every game. this changes of course with bloodborne.

I have a pc with a 670 ,ps4 and an xbox one.
The xbox one is getting the most playtime from me due to mcc, halo 5, sunset overdrive and D4. So for 2015 instead of upgrading my video card to a 970 i am just going to spend the money on ps4 and xbox one games for AAA and pc for indies.

I'm not too fond of the idea of buying a redundant device that does what my PC already does, just slightly worse, only because a very limited selection of titles is deliberately kept from it, in the same way I wouldn't buy an additional television just to watch some exclusive channel.
Even as a console owner, this is what philosophically pisses me off about consoles the most. The idea that I would have to own three different boxes with three separate x86 CPUs and three separate GCN GPUs, just because I would want to play ArmA 3, Halo and Uncharted (just examples), that just grates on me. Especially knowing that the PC connected to the same TV as those consoles could run these games in much higher quality.
Of course, I understand the realities of why this all is, and the competition good and yada yada, but still.

Still don't have any plans on getting them. Felt a bit burned by the last gen consoles. These things have become too inconvenient for me.

"You will miss out on games" is a pretty weird argument. You will always miss out on games. You can't play everything and you shouldn't, because unless you have zero knowledge of what you prefer, you would just end up playing a lot of games that aren't for you.

And how many exclusives are there on the consoles right now that you can't play on PC? There will be tons eventually, of course, but which ones are the must play right now?

And that's a honest question, because I really like the PS4 hardware and OS, and would buy one the second a must have title for me emerged on it.

But what do we have now?

Driveclub?
Sunset Overdrive?
Destiny?
Master Chief Collection?
Killer Instinct?
Killzone?
The Last of Us Remastered

I know what I prefer for kind of game, and very rarely care about AAA TPS/FPS games and driving games, so I'm perfectly fine with missing out on those. I feel no need to own those games for the sake of it.

But the minute they put out an exclusive open world RPG that would rival New Vegas in terms of quality, I would buy the console the had it immediately. :)

Well I wasn't planning to get a console until at least Bloodborne but I came into some unexpected extra cash and ended up ordering a PS4 just yesterday. It may just end up being my Sony/console exclusive machine but thats fine. I'll have to start working out if my PC can run each multiformat game to PS4 standard as I think its fairly close and may vary from game to game.

I just picked up the XB1 and the PS4 during the holiday sales. There were some decent bundles that I wanted to try out although I'm primarily a PC gamer.

Now I'm kinda wondering why I did it lol. I only use the consoles a couple of hours a week. Still working through SSO on XB1 even though I got it around Black Friday. I just got the PS4 TLOU holiday bundle with GTA 5 and Far Cry 4 a few days ago. I'm not going to play GTA 5 or Far Cry on the PS4 as I'm going to finish them on PC.

It seems like I probably could've waited a couple more months if there were any better deals available but I had a few gift cards to burn so I picked em up. I mainly only wanted them for multiplayer/party games when people are over, but there aren't many titles out right now that help with that. I would probably play any multiplat on PC over console anyway with a few exceptions.

Simply put:

No.

Elaborate.

Cause that "simply put. No." of yours makes me sound like a complete oblivious person that has no clue what is talking about.

Unless I am oblivious that a "gamer" considers games like Mario, Zelda, Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, Halo, Uncharted, Gears of War, Quantum Break etc etc irrelevant games, unworthy of your attention.

Of course I do not expect everyone to like all of the console and 3rd party multiplatform exclusive games, but saying that ALL OF THEM are not worth your time is just ridiculous.

Furthermore, I am baffled how owning a console being a PC gamer sounds so god damn insulting to some "gamers" out there.

My belief is, have a good PC that will run all multiplats better than consoles do and have a console of your choice for games that will not come to other systems.

So again, please, elaborate what is so amazingly, almost insultingly, wrong with that.

This is the first gen where I'm not even remotely tempted to buy a console, even the handhelds. Not just because everything's on PC but most games in general suck. I only recently got into DQ5 and it's grabbed my imagination more than anything in recent years.

Still don't have either. I still got a lot of games to finish on other platforms but next year with Bloodbourne, Type-0 and Persona 5, I'll definitely be picking PS4 up.

I have a Wii U, still no need for the other two quite yet. Doubt I will buy an Xbox One due to the craziness that MS originally was going for. Probably will get a PS4 sometime next year when some games I want are out.

I agree in a phillosophical level, in practice though... I have a job, not nearly enough hours to play everything there is on PC right now. You get to an age when gaming is more about the time you can afford to waste, than the actual monetary cost.

Agreed, I also said on my post that due to time restraints I cannot afford to have all gaming options. That is why I suggested that a PC + a console is something that most people can do.

Now if you cant afford even that because of lack of time, then of course choose the best option to suit your needs. Completely understandable. PC is perhaps the best standalone choice.

If it wasn't for Halo, I wouldn't. Only thing I play on my XBO is Halo and Destiny, plus I have a Wii U for all my Nintendo needs. Everything else I just use my PC.

Yeah, I upgraded my pc a year ago. Cheaper than a ps4 and twice as powerful. There is really no need to buy the new twins this time.

The Wii U though..

What a load of crap, there are more good games than anyone has time to play in a lifetime, you're never going to touch more than 10 percent of it.
Just because something is on a console doesn't arbitrarily make it any more worthwhile than anything on another platform.

Also your 'must play' is another person's 'who gives a shit'

Do you have a wii u? Do you have a pc? If no to either you're a big hypocrite too

I was gonna get the White PS4 but decided to keep waiting until there are more games designed from the ground up with that hardware in mind. We still seem to be in the cross-generation era, and last I checked the PS4 still can't act as a media server (think PS3 Media Server program) which is about 50% of what my PS3 does. My GF has said she was not going to get me a PS4 for our anniversary and was wondering what games I didn't want for PS4, so I'm sure I'll have one soon enough.

me
still waiting for a killer game
after uncharted 3 , i felt it wasn't that big game that you should get a console for it
i 'll wait for next year and 1 tera HDD edition to be the regular edition of PS4

Neither system has a library strong enough to merit the cost to me yet. Most of the things I care about have been cross gen or had a PC release announced so I have no reason to go in since I'm not missing anything I wanted.

So let me get this straight... you are calling the entire exclusive console offering a load of crap? Right... yeah that sounds kinda hyperbole.

Sure a lot of people "best" is someone else's "crap". But you cant say the entire XBOX library is crap to you, nor for any system out there. If you are a gamer.

Now like I specifically mentioned, if you are time constraint then yes, of course and you will choose one system and PC is probably the way to go.

But calling an opinion that suggests having the best of both worlds: "a load of crap" sounds more like you have that weird elitist thing going on...

PS: No I dont have a WiiU, but that doesnt mean I do not wish I could play Mario Kart or Bayonetta 2. Same for XBOX one. I dont have one. But I watched that Quantum Break gameplay multiple times. Why? Cause I really dig it. If I had the time needed you can bet I would go on and buy one. How am I a hypocrite when I already mentioned that time constraints do not allow for most people to have every system out there??

Don't worry, Bloodborne wasn't made by the janitors at FROM. The alpha for BB was actually more fun than Dark Souls 2 as a whole. LoL

Meanwhile on my PC I have this piece of shit Lords of the Fallen I bought for $20 on this terrible fucking sale and it makes Dark Souls 2 look like the best game ever made. ARGHHHHHHHH

no , your post was a load of crap.
read the one you quoted again it adresses everything you just mention if you read it.

Not enough of a library that interests me yet. I've owned every console in the past but once they got a good library going. There are one or two games that I'm interested in such as Bloodborne but I'm not getting a console just for that
unless The Last Guardian had to come out soon.

You make it seem like it s hard not to have a new console but it s the contrary.
It s hard to find reasons to buy the consoles this gen.

Again, you are calling an opinion that pretty much says : "if you have the time and money, have a good PC for multiplats/PC exclusives and a console of your choice for that 1st party stuff" a load of crap.

My post was all about that. That is the entire point of that post.

WHat is crap? The grammar, or the way I articulated or presented it?

Do you agree with that opinion? No? Ok, calling it crap makes you sound kinda arrogant and insulting.

You make it seem like it s hard not to have a new console but it s the contrary.

I agree that so far consoles (next gen) dont offer much. In fact it makes more sense to buy a last gen console (due to library/ cheap games) than a current gen one.

As always, I expect things to get better when we go fully into 2nd and 3rd gen games. So far this whole cross gen and remastered stuff is disappointing.

I'm too cheap to buy console games. Sub $10 for AAA games or bust.
I also can't think of any interesting console-exclusives.
My last console was a PS2, used mainly as a DVD Player.

I'm never going to buy a system with an online paywall.
Also this

Metal Gear came out for the PC now so I have no reason for a console anymore.
But Metal Gear did come out for home computers...
You already knew this

There's bloodborne yes, but some people don't want to dish out 400 units for a game.

Everyone's Gone to Rapture
The Order
No Mans Sky
Uncharted 4
Until Dawn
Deep Down
Ratchet and Clank
Tearaway Unfolded
Volume
The Tomorrow Children
Persona 5 (understandable if you own a ps3 but I'll be playing this on ps4)
Hellblade
Rime

I'm sure I'm missing a few. The point is, the PS4 clearly has a lot of games for a lot of genres. Saying it only has one game is stupid.

Anyone who looks at the 2015 release list and isnt convinced to welcome the PS4 is delusional lol.
I'm honestly not sure if you're kidding or serious, but I'll ask anyway, what is there in the PS4 release list for 2015 (that's not on PC or won't come to PC)? Bloodborne obviously, but what else? I honestly have no clue.

Ah just saw your list, thank you. Anyway, that's only a few games that won't come to PC (and that's pretty relevant since this is a thread for PC gamers). Hardly anything delusional there.
Though yes obviously, it's not just one game.

no , your post was a load of crap.

Calm down. His first post might not have been the most optimal, but he explained his stance more.

The only reason I have to get a PS4 is GGXrd, but I really don't want to buy a new console + arcade stick + game + pay for PSN for a single game, especially now that I just bought a WiiU. I'll just stick to PC for now.

Im also a PC gamer but people trying to downplay the PS4 and consoles in general is just sad. Dunno why they try and do it. Post purchase rationalization I guess?

But yeah, plenty of games in 2015. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some (DQ Heroes!!! Final fantasy XV demo?)

Those consoles will sometimes be a good purchase but now?
If you look at the games than you definitely don't have to own neither.
Wait for the price drop, the revisions and the games to come out.
I've done this on last Gen and it worked fine.
Got my PS3 when UC3 came out and I got most games for a cheap price.
The Wii U is the most interesting next gen console one since my friend bought one and I already played my fair share of Wii games I don't need one especially if I can emulate their best games from the past years on my pc.
They have definitely some interesting ones but I don't have the urge to play them (now).
You can find for almost all Nintendo games an equivalent on pc.
And not always you have to emulate them...
Blur and SASRT are still fantastic Kart games and our group like them more then MK8.

TL;DR
Smart people wait and play on their pc, people who don't care about value buy the PS4/Xone now.
Nintendo fans buy Nintendo stuff, their a special candle on the cake.

I don't think people are really downplaying anything. Maybe a few hyperboles here and there though like your words about delusion, but mainly it just comes down to that when looking at game lists for consoles, most people think there's maybe a couple of really interesting games. That doesn't mean the rest might not interest them at all, but just that they're not really a factor in deciding whether or not to shell out the dough to get the console.

And of course, some people might really seem like they're downplaying consoles, but it might well be that they're just not interested in them (and that's perfectly fine too, as especially time is limited, and someone might simply not like the business model of consoles).

Top of the pops list games for consoles are fine if you think that's all there is to gaming. But right now I don't have time for a console with a gaming machine (PC) with a library of games infinitely larger than all consoles combined. My backlog is just insane..really. I'll buy a console for my son (and for us both) when he's a little bit older.

I prefered to update my video card to a r9 290 and keep my i5 2500k rather than buy a ps4

I can wait. Not a big fan of Souls games (bye bloodbrourne)
