Binge watched this a fortnight ago. So damn good. Eva Greens performance was amazing in her possession scenes. Looking forward to season 2 for sure.

That would depend on what you weren't "feeling".
What the fuck does "pick up" even mean?
I see these questions in these threads and never understand what people want people to say.
Obviously people in here enjoyed it, so yes to many it "picked up" or had things that they enjoyed. But if you did not feel the first ep you may not feel any of it.
Watch more and decide for yourself.

I want to bookmark this post and use it everyone someone posts one of these "meh" passive agressive posts from now on. "I don't think this show is any good. DOES IT GET BETTER"

.
In what might be the most obvious GAF 'scoop' ever, unless it has already been announced and I missed it, I hear that Showtime have already renewed Penny Dreadful for a third season before the second one has even premiered.

Apparently John Logan is already putting together his writers room for season three.
Aww yiss.

I marathonned trough the last four episodes last week because of the TV show of the year thread. Strange I never watched the back half because it was amazing. Eva Green is killing it. Looking forward to more.

finally read to binge watch this. Alrady seen EpiOne and damn, show's damn good; great pacing, dialogue, budget, fantastic actors, expecially Harry Treadway as Frankenstein, impressive work there

this truly is LXG done right. Can't wait to watch more of it

Watched the whole season with my wife. Eva Green own's the show. She out classes and over acts the rest of the cast IMO. Wouldn't watch it without her. Didn't find it super great or anything. It was fun to watch.

Make or break season doesn't sound very encouraging. The rest sounds hype though.
A few more quotes from the panel:
@EricIGN: John Logan has already started plotting #PennyDreadful: Season 3. Says he feels pretty confident. #TCA15

@RothCornet: "Yes. I am nothing if not confident. Any any man who stares at a blank page every day must have swagger." - John Logan #PennyDreadful #TCA15

S1 has a ton of set-up and was focused on the characters internally for the most part.

Nice trailer. So,
Elizabeth Bathon
?

- New S2 trailer (please spoiler tag discussion as appropriate)

oh my god
I can't believe this show. i literally cannot believe it exists

hopefully
Dracula
shows up, and the group is ready to act more like a team this time..not that I disliked the characters' mindblowing past stories, but I want more epic fights dammit

still, day -0. Most surprising American show I've seen....probably ever

A little OT but I wanted to share a piece that my wife did a few days ago:

Just finished binge watching this.

The thing went up and down from great to bad, depending on who was on screen.

Eva Green and Timothy Dalton were a 10/10.
Frankenstein and the American were 8/10.
Dorian Grey was like... alright, he didn't have much to do with the plot, but whatever.
Supporting characters also were alright.

Ozzy Osbourne almost made me quit the show, everything about him i hated.
How they desperately tried to make you feel sorry for him, because he had a couple of scars and a bad haircut (i'm sure at the time people saw much much worse on a daily basis, dude's a bit pale and is scarred, he's no fucking John Merrick) and he lives a fairly comfortable life in a theater, while again, most people had it much worse by default at the time.
Oh he can't bang the chick he likes, boo hoo, then he paints his face like one of The Cure, and tries to rape her, but she rejects him (even though he gifted her a book! The nerve on that girl) and yeah, the struggle oh my.. oh right, he also killed in cold blood a poor old man (Van Helsing) that was much more interesting than he was to begin with.
Also why is he going on about mortals and eternity? The fuck? Isn't he around by relatively little? A couple of years? And how does he know he's immortal? His brother sure wasn't.
Then he wants a companion, a pretty one at that, 'cause he couldn't settle for anything less i suppose; it'll be fun to see her reject him and go back to the cowboy though.
Other than that, i hope he slips on some ice and dies instantly next season.

That was my bigger problem, that one character made me roll my eyes so much.
Beyond that, there were a lot of great and very fun scenes, especially involving Vanessa (dat possession).
Thought Sir Malcom's turn on his own daughter was sort of cheap and rushed, and some of what the shows seems to consider incredibly "depraved" seems pretty tame to me, though those were different times, i guess adultery was bigger deal.

I was worried that that bald vampire dude was going to be Dracula, but thankfully it was just a random vampire.

I'm looking forward to next season for that whole arc, but please, get rid of the Monster and expand instead on Sembene, that looks like it has a more interesting story to tell (other than collecting people's hats and sitting around).

I don't think you're supposed to feel sorry for Caliban. You're supposed to fear and hate him...

That's the whole point of Proteus...

Yeah, it is basically the Eva Green and Timothy Dalton show. They are so much better than the rest that it has an almost jarring effect.

I also cannot understand a word of what Billie Piper is saying.

She's saying, "bejesus, bejabbers, begorrah, Danny boy, Jamesons 12 year boxtie"

I certainly don't fear him, i think he's pretty silly looking.
But i do hate him for boring me every time he comes moping on screen.
The music is usually very tear jerking when he's looking at the other actors, and his backstory clearly made to make you feel sorry for him (how he gets assaulted by the drunkards) plus you have the token asshole actor calling him "monster" and him being all shy and humble and shit.
The old actor even has his back when he assaults the woman, for some reason.

That's what subtitles are for i guess. :P
I agree with your first sentence though.

I woudn't say Dalton and Green are so much better than anyone in the show. Of course they boss over the other actors, but I found Harry Treadaway as Frankie mindblowingly good, and his tortured performance gives them a run for their money. Kinnear is also great as the Monster, altho he wasn't given much screen time

For me the problem with the monster isn't in the acting.

The monster is horrible, I think you're supposed to both pity and hate him. I don't hate him as a character as much as some others, but I still hoped Victor had pulled the trigger instead of being all cowardly and then using Brona's corpse. I hope she rejects him and he goes even crazier and kill himself, haha.

Vanessa is amazing. Best character of the show by far, followed by Sir Malcom and Victor, I think. Too bad about the Token Black Guy (tm). How hard was it to give him some backstory, at the very least? :\ "I have no story", wow... kinda tone-deaf there. :P

I also cannot understand a word of what Billie Piper is saying.
lol, me neither. Didn't care for her character either but I'm curious to see how it'll go with the monster.
