thats exactly what i thought upon reflection
or
Ethan's waking up not knowing where he was and it looks like he's got a bite on his palm, he may be a werewolf (classic wolfman had a mark on the palm) and he's doing it and not quiet realizing it yet
Totally overlooked that, makes sense too.

When he woke up I was thinking it could be the Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde type of thing, but that is only assuming he was the one responsible for the Jack the ripper killings. If he is a mindless monster then he'd just straight up tear people apart and not - as jack did - slice women open and carefully extract their organs.

I was wondering if the rest of the cast were noteworthy figures, and this totally makes sense.

Any theories on Brona anyone?

not a spoiler just a wild guess at a possible iconic

that she's apparently dying already might make her a prime candidate for victor to make a bride for his creation, but that might be too obvious

should spoiler that
being that he's not an intellectual of any sort, i wouldn't think it likely he be a dr jekyll/mr hyde character..but who knows

that wasn't a bite, it looks like he clenched his hand so hard his fingernails dug into his hand. Though I guess he could still be a wolfman. I mean, he's wearing clothes at the end. Maybe a jekyll and hyde type character

Episode 2
was absolutely fantastic

That seance scene was so good. Eva Green really sold it.

And that ending.............Holy shit! Did not see that coming at all.

Definitely sticking with this show.

With the Episode 2 ending, it really made Victor
a sympathetic character IMO. That scene at the end of first episode feels more tragic now, since it's like he finally succeeded, created a being that wasn't hideous, didn't hate him or fear people. He got it right this time and he didn't neglect his "child" like he did after his first attempt, which made the emotional moment and the unexpected death more powerful.

If anything, that makes the Firstborn's anger pretty justified, since Victor abandoned him, only to try again. Such a cool direction to take the Frankenstein story

OH MY GOD,
THAT ENDING
.

SONS OF BITCHES, MY BEAUTIFUL PROTEUS :(:(:(:(:(:(

Edit: But seriously, that shit was a thousand times better than the pilot. Intense episode from beginning to end. Wow.

Just watched the first episode and liked it...outside of the intro, which had a generic as hell scare,I knew someone would grab her and who the hell builds a window behind a fucking toilet lol,the rest was pretty good...going to keep watching.

I didn't really like the second episode (outside of the very end). I found the
possession thing to be too long and a tad ridiculous
.

I understand about half of what Billie Piper is saying. Her accent is atrocious.
This too. I understand it but it is a pretty poor accent.

Fuckin hell Eva Green made the camera love her. She was so fantastic in the
seance scene
! This episode definitely got me more hyped for the show than the pilot did. Oh man. Oh man.
Dorian Gray
was also excellent. Need to explore that character more for sure!

And
Proteus! NooooOOOoooo!

Oh, wow. That ending. Still wondering who Ethan is suppose to be in all this.
Edit: That spoiler pretty much told us
he's a werewolf.

The first episode didn't click with me but I figured I'd give the second a chance just to be sure, and nope, I'm bailing out on this one. Really boring characters mixed with awful, awful dialogue is just too much for me.

Welp. Most people in this thread fell in love with the show after the second episode. I could see the pilot not clicking with everybody (it was merely enjoyable), but the follow up was really impressive, Billie Piper's criminal accent notwithstanding. I guess it's just not the show for you (nothing wrong with that).

Yeah, it just didn't click with me, which is a bummer since I enjoyed the theme of the show and wanted to like it. Outside of the first part of the
possession scene (as someone else said, that scene went on WAY too long)
, it was just more of these characters saying a whole lot of nothing.

Oh well, I've said my part. Enjoy the show, guys.

This show surprised me, the first episode was serviceable but the second was unexpectedly intense.

The only thing I didn't like much was that I though that Victor's story was
another reinterpretation of Mary Shelley's original story, but when I saw the creature appear, fairly well characterized and back with a vengeance it finally did it for me, it was fantastic I thought
, so it's all good in the end.

I'm very much looking forward to this now.

I've only seen the first episode but I really liked it. Wasn't expecting the cinematography to be so beautiful.

The opening is so, so good. And I think the second episode is even better in terms of cinematography. It looks like Bayona brought Jaume Martí and Bernat Vilaplana (The Impossible, Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone) to help him with the editing, so there's that. I hope the show manages to keep such a high level later in the season, since Bayona only directed the first couple of episodes.

Also, I just checked the official YouTube channel and they are going to recreate a
Grand Guignol
in one of the upcoming episodes. I'm already relishing.

Edit: And Xavi Giménez is heading photography and Belén Atienza (Pan's Labyrinth producer) also helped as executive co-producer, whatever that is. Man, this is basically a Spanish joint from a technical point of view. I wonder if they will remain in the upcoming episodes, cinematography is really one of the show's strenghts.

Both the toilets in my home are in front of windows so that scene hit close to home. :(

Episode 2 is even more awesome than the first.
