"I've never fucked a dying creature before"

"There's a panty dropper if I ever heard one" --that's all I could think about when I heard that.

Episode 2 was awesome. Let's see what I remember:

MR PROTEUS, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK GODDAMMIT. I was hoping every episode would end with a beautiful moment between Victor and Proteus, and then fucking the Monster shows up and murders this poor guy! I was so shocked, I thought it was a dream sequence!

Eva Green! Goddamn. That seance scene was inspired. It felt like it went on a bit too long, but Eva Green fucking committed to it and killed. That was nuts. And Malcolm's expressions throughout. I do like the tender moment where he just put a blanket on her after she fucked herself asleep.

Lol.

Ethan Chandler is still kinda meh. I can't understand a single word Billie Piper says, but I did not mind her disrobing. The spitting blood part was... weird.

Dorian Gray comes off as a major twat. Not a fan.

Episode 2 was fantastic! The highlight was definitely the possession sequence I like how towards the end it gets all sombre and sad with Eva "dying" and then it just ramps the fuck up again.

Also that ending! Holy shit my jaw dropped I really thought Proteus would be around for awhile.

just watched ep 2
rip proteus ; ;
regarding seance scene, i kept wondering whether or not eva did that on purpose, maybe just to show madame kali who's the boss?
in the end when she fucked that pedestrian, that was still the demon inside her or was she back?

Just wached the first two episodes. I liked it, but am not quite sold yet. But Eva Green is doing her best to keep me hooked in the meantime.

Generally, I just love the era and the look of the show. A Hammer-Horror monster mash-up

Shame about Proteus, but that was really well done. Especially how they made you care about him in such a short amount of time.

I did not quite get all the implications of the seance. So Eva Green is possessed by an Egyptian God(dess) and if the devil gets his hands on her it will be the end of the world. Right?

Also, Mina is Sir Dalton's daughter, correct? She (and/or someone named Vanessa) saw him have sex. I assume Mina was taken by Dracula at some point.

Any thoughts?

edit nm
i thought the prophecy was more metaphoric then literal..I'll have to watch it again before the third episode and pay attention to her more. I just assumed she was a medium not that she's actually possessed as a state of being.
And yes Mina from Dracula..we're assuming THE ONE they were hunting was dracula..but now they realise there are more of them..and all roads lead to egypt

I also think she acted as a medium when she was talking to Sir Timothy. But then the Egyptologist said she had a "demon inside her" and not to tell her that "the devil is looking for her".

Anyway, I am sure it will be made more clear in future episodes.

He didn't bother me at all. He's usually portrayed as a gaping asshole and Penny Dreadfuls' version follows that route, but at least I didn't find him annoying.

i think his performance is kinda irritating. it'll probably grow on me but funnily enough i think the league of extraordinary garbage had a better dorian gray at this point.

eva green though, god damn that was a great performance in ep 2.

her, timothy dalton and frankenstein are the standouts for the series.

loved the surprise ending, pretty sad too. billie piper is so bad holy shit. kill her

Timothy Dalton's steely performance during the
seance scene
was amazeballs. He didn't utter a word, yet you could see this mix of rage and shame on his face.

that scene is probably the most gripping of the TV season so far.

eps 2 solidified the show's direction for me.

oh yeah regarding timothy during the seance scene
so his son died from dysentery? and timothy raped/had sex with his own daughter?
then who is charlotte? i thought his daughter is called mina?

I haven't seen the 2nd episode but omg i was hooked from almost the very beginning of the premier, and wasn't disappointed. I haven't been this excited about a show since Game of Thrones started like 3 years ago. Eva Green is amazing too.

Started this today and finished the second episode. Much better than the first with some great scenes and events. Show's still a bit dull at times though. I'll probably stick with anyway as it's only 8 episodes long.

Billie Piper has no place among this crowd. Shit actress.

let's just say im dumb, someone explain to me the whole story of what Eva was saying during the seance

Malcolm's adventures in Africa. Lost his son (?) and got caught by his daughter banging a woman other than her mother.

She isn't nearly as bad as her accent, which is a complete mess. It's not that it doesn't sound Irish, but it doesn't even sound Northerner. I believe she would be serviceable without it.

I literally almost clapped at Eva Green's "monologue."

Jesus, if I were whatsherface off Dr. Who, I'd quit acting after seeing myself contrasted with that.

I have been watching them on demand and very confused by the fact they are available before the air date, but just now put it all together.
Yes, it's a little atypical, but I think this is the last one that'll be released early on demand. Episode 3 isn't going to be up until a week from Monday (the 26th), iirc.

I'm not saying it's brilliant by any stretch, but there's parts that would be VERY passable as a Belfast accent.

I didn't realize John Logan True Detective'd this show (wrote every episode). I wonder if that'll become more welcome among shows that have less episodes per season.

Watched most of the pilot on Hulu. I'm not entirely hooked yet, but will continue for a couple more episodes to see if it picks up steam.

Will the show be continually uploaded on Hulu or will only the pilot be available due to Showtime?

Episode 2 was a lot better than the first.
Eva Green killed it during the seance scene. I must admit though, that, fun as it was, I was hella confused by what it all meant. Who was she possessed by? Some Egyptian god? Or was she possessed by his daughter Mina? Or his son? Who was shitting blood? Did Malcom rape someone? Was Eva Green still possessed when she sexed that guy in the street? What the what?

I was totally caught off guard by
the final scene. Just as things were starting to get interesting with Proteus, the actual Frankenstein's monster shows up and rips him in half! What!

The weak link this week was definitely
Josh Hartnett, who didn't really do much of anything besides talk to that prostitute. Hopefully things pick up for him next week.

I understand about half of what Billie Piper is saying.

Me too. Her accent is really difficult to understand. I like the actress a lot though. She's very charismatic.

Will the show be continually uploaded on Hulu or will only the pilot be available due to Showtime?

No, the rest of the season won't be available on Hulu. Showtime put the pilot up for free in order to drum up interest in the series just as a one time thing. If you want to watch the rest of the season you've got to subscribe to Showtime (or wait for the Blu-ray).

Ep 2:
Is there a more detailed write up of the seance anywhere? I've gone back to piece it all together a few times, but I can't even understand what's being said two-thirds of the time.

Ah crap, sorry. Thanks for grabbing that.

Also Ep 2
Ha, I remember someone earlier in the thread talking about how they hated the fact that Proteus looked nothing like how the monster was described in the book, then went on to quote a passage from the book about the monster having long, oily black hair and pale, nearly translucent skin. Looks like they got it right after all.

New episode today:
Season 1: episode 2 "Seance"

Egyptologist Sir Ferdinand Lyle hosts a party and requires Vanessa and Sir Malcolm attend to attend. There they meet Dorian Gray during a séance held by Madame Kali. Meanwhile, Ethan makes the acquaintance of a young Irish immigrant, Brona Croft, with a dark past.

That was probably me. Yes, I'm very pleased now.

Where are you guys seeing this one week early...? I am watching this on the Movie Network here in Canada and episode 2 is tonight.

Started watching this today on a whim
because Eva Green is in it
. Episode 1 was a little dull but the second has me hooked. Green and Dalton are doing great work here.

Finally caught the first episode. Love the atmosphere. Good to hear that the second episode is better, first one was okay, but it has potential.
